    Profile

    Alias: The Huntress
    Legal Name: Savannah Westenberg
    Gender: Female
    Age: 28
    Ethnicity: White South African
    Occupation: Criminal; Assassin; Hunter/Tracker; Poacher
    Height: 6′ 0″
    Body Type: Muscular, Lithe
    Hair Colour: Light Brown
    Hair Type: Long, Wavy
    Eye Colour: Green/Grey
    Skin Colour: White/Tan
    Species: Superhuman

    Powers and Abilities

    Powers: Superhuman senses, healing factor.
Details/Limitations: Senses of sight, smell, and hearing are all drastically enhanced to animal-like levels, including being able to see telescopically and with night vision. Healing factor and superhuman immune system allows for healing of severe wounds in a matter of days, rather than weeks or months, and provides resistance against most diseases. Additionally, her strength, agility, and endurance are permanently at the level of peak human ability.
Abilities/Skills: Hunting, tracking, zoology, gunplay (especially rifles), knife-fighting, boxing, wrestling, stealth.
Costume: Standard costume consists of a reinforced, fireproof bodysuit; spiked gauntlets; mask; boots; belts; and animal pelts/furs. Has alternate costumes for various environments, including arctic gear, urban camo, and jungle camo.
Weapons: Usually carries a custom sniper rifle and at least one concealed hunting knife in addition to spiked gauntlets. Has access to assorted firearms and melee weapons, but generally prefers the rifle, knives, or bare hands.
Gadgets/Tech: Belt contains several hidden tracking devices. Occasionally uses signal jammers, EMPs, and other electronic warfare devices.
    Physical Weaknesses: Allergic to penicillin.
Mental/Emotional Weaknesses: Vulnerable to psychic attack.

    Personality and Relationships

Primary Traits: Obsessive, methodical, assertive, blunt, outspoken.
Likes: Big-game hunting, alcohol, guns, sports, travel, getting her own way.
Dislikes: Animals, loosing a target, chauvinism, prison, superheroes.
Habits/Quirks: A surprisingly mysterious individual, despite her no-nonsense, straightforward attitude. Little is known of her past before she became a well known figure in the South African criminal underworld. Unknown to most, she was raised by relatively rich parents of Dutch descent, and led a privileged life – developing passions for sport hunting and luxurious parties, and getting mixed up with some unsavoury characters. Gaining permanent superpowers with an prototype version of the serum later used by Alley Cat, she found that she fit into the criminal lifestyle well, hiring herself out as a ruthless and successful assassin and mercenary. She’s obsessed with adding famous heroes to her trophy list. Often incorporates her animal kills into her costumes.
    Fears: Snakes, sharks.
Family: Dirk and Johanna Westenberg (parents)
    Romantic Interests:
Allies: Warhead, Tarantula, Alley Cat, Monsoon, The Botanist, I.Q., The Brass Bison
    Affiliation: Lawless Earth Network
    Rivals/Nemesis:
Enemies: United States Sentinels, Society of European Superheroes, Indo-Asian Superhuman Assembly, Apex Squad, Iron Patrol.

    Alias: The Botanist
    Legal Name: Christian Grant
    Gender: Male
    Age: 32
    Ethnicity: English
Occupation: Botanist; chemist; criminal; mad Scientist; supervillain.
    Height: 5′ 10″
    Body Type: Thin, Scrawny
    Hair Colour: Brown
    Hair Type: Short, Combed
    Eye Colour: Blue
    Skin Colour: White/Pale
    Species: Superhuman

    Powers and Abilities

Powers: Plant manipulation, immunity to Poison.
Details/Limitations: Possessing the ability to animate, manipulate, and control plant life, he can cause nearby plants to grow with unnatural speed, animate vines, roots, or trees to entangle enemies, make plants rapidly mutate and become carnivorous or poisonous, and so on. The flora under his control becomes more powerful and harder to destroy when exposed to sunlight, though quite vulnerable to fire. Additionally, he is immune to all plant based toxins, and most other poisons only have a minor effect.
    Abilities/Skills: Botany, chemistry, biology.
Costume: White lab-coat with shirt and tie, jeans, sneakers, and spectacles.
    Weapons:
Gadgets/Tech: Laboratory contains chemistry tools and equipment, as well as a botanical garden full of exotic, dangerous plants.
Physical Weaknesses: Primary method of attack/defence is vulnerable to fire, no close combat abilities.
Mental/Emotional Weaknesses: Schizophrenic. Vulnerable only against high-level mental attack.

    Personality and Relationships

Primary Traits: Mild-mannered, schizophrenic, volatile, shy.
Likes: Science, plants, science-fiction, history, tennis.
    Dislikes: Deforestation, insects, birds, superheroes.
Habits/Quirks: A certifiable madman. Mild-mannered botanist and pharmaceutical chemist by day; mad scientist and supervillain by night. Having dedicated his life to the belief that communication between plants and humans could one day be possible, self-experimentation with various chemical compounds and and pheromones led to an explosive laboratory accident that resulted in his powers – with the unfortunate side effect of schizophrenia. Uncontrollable psychotic episodes cause him to commit crimes, using his above average intellect to great effect. Spends almost all of his free time creating new and unusual plants, the majority of which are deadly for one reason or another. Afraid of his own madness, he makes sure that his colleagues and neighbours are unaware of his alter-ego, and they know him simply as a quiet, nerdy, unremarkable individual.
    Fears: Fire, plant-eating insects, madness.
    Family: Emily Grant (sister)

Notes: Haven’t posted in a while, but I’m back with some new characters! Here’s another villain. This is my first attempt at a fully articulated pose that uses multiple masked torso pieces, etc.  I’m pretty pleased with it! The rain effect isn’t too great, I think I should have made it at an angle. It’s good to be back!

    Profile

    Alias: Monsoon
    Legal Name: John Kaluma Siwo
    Gender: Male
    Age: 23
    Ethnicity: Zambian
    Occupation: Criminal; Eco-Terrorist; Supervillain.
    Height: 6′ 3″
    Body Type: Lithe, Athletic
    Hair Colour: Black
    Hair Type: Thick, Very Short
    Eye Colour: Dark Brown
    Skin Colour: Dark Brown
    Species: Superhuman

    Powers and Abilities

Powers: Water Manipulation, Weather Manipulation, Flight, Ecological Empathy.
Details/Limitations: Able to control and manipulate the element of water to a seemingly limitless degree, with abilities ranging from the subtle (causing water in a cup to ripple, swirl, or levitate into the air) to the extreme (causing devastating tsunamis, floods, waterspouts, etc). Weather control is limited; unable to do anything past creating heavy rains and strong winds – although manipulation of wind currents does allow for flight. Additionally, he can sense the condition and overall wellbeing of the surrounding natural environment – although this is often a disadvantage that causes distress, anger, and pain in areas where nature has been damaged or destroyed.
Abilities/Skills: Swimming, diving, aerial acrobatics, mixed martial arts.
Costume: Fully waterproof and flame resistant bodysuit with headgear and goggles; protective leg guards; belt.
    Weapons:
Gadgets/Tech: Belt pouch contains a compact regulator/filter mouthpiece that allows for underwater breathing at shallow depths of up to 30 feet.
Physical Weaknesses: Not much protective gear or defence against conventional attack. No strong powers without a nearby water source.
Mental/Emotional Weaknesses: Ecological empathy can lead to a kind of sensory overload, leading to rash decisions and even temporary insanity. Vulnerable to psychic attack.

    Personality and Relationships

Primary Traits: Angry, brooding, unpredictable, stubborn, idealistic.
Likes: Nature, surfing, swimming, canoeing, self sufficiency.
Dislikes: Damage to the environment (especially the oceans), processed foods, politicians, superheroes.
Habits/Quirks: Fiercely proud of his tribal heritage, he resents much of society for the destruction of the natural world and the over-use of natural resources. Because of this viewpoint, he is often belligerent and bitter, though he constantly appears quiet, introspective, and brooding. Dislikes spending too much time around urban civilisation. Often found engaging in acts of eco-terrorism, even doing good deeds for environmental organisations on occasion, he’s sadly too cynical and wary of the government to truly use his powers for good. Despite having mostly noble intentions, he’s known to sometimes perform acts of mass destruction and super-villainy out of anger. He has a passion for surfing and other water-sports, which he discovered while travelling the coast as a teen. It is rumoured that he gained his powers during a tribal ritual, with his body possessed by a water deity, but nobody really knows the truth.
Fears: Irreversible damage to nature, government corruption, being frozen or otherwise physically paralysed.
    Family: Unknown

    Profile

    Alias: Alley Cat
    Legal Name: Gibson Blake
    Gender: Male
    Age: 27
    Ethnicity: American
    Occupation: Criminal; Mercenary; Businessman.
    Height: 6′ 0″
    Body Type: Lean, Athletic
    Hair Colour: Dark Blonde
    Hair Type: Short, Messy
    Eye Colour: Light Brown
    Skin Colour: White/Light Tan
    Species: Superhuman

    Powers and Abilities

Powers: Superhuman agility, balance, dexterity, and reflexes. Enhanced hearing and sense of smell.
Details/Limitations: By taking regular doses of a black market super-soldier serum, he gains extreme levels of agility, balance, dexterity, and reflexes; able to easily perform incredible acrobatic manoeuvres and death-defying leaps; with fast enough reflexes to outmatch regular humans in hand-to-hand combat. Additionally, his hearing and sense of smell are enhanced to animal-like levels.
Abilities/Skills: Business, extortion, theft, parkour, stealth, acrobatics, Aikido, Ninjutsu.
Costume: Fireproof, impact resistant bodysuit; bulletproof gauntlets; cowl/headgear; utility belt.
Weapons: Three razor sharp, semi-retractable claws attached to costume on each hand.
Gadgets/Tech: Headgear grants night vision/infra-red vision, and has removable mask section that works as a smoke and gas filter. Utility belt contains pouch for mask filter, smoke canisters, and gas canisters. Tail is a battery-powered animatronic prosthetic and purely cosmetic.
Physical Weaknesses: Loses powers without regular doses of serum, becoming a regular human with peak conditioning, weak swimmer.
Mental/Emotional Weaknesses: Panics in water, vulnerable to psychic attack.

    Personality and Relationships

Primary Traits: Cunning, laid-back, suave, cocky, egocentric.
Likes: Money, women, luxury and excess, reading, socialising, outsmarting his enemies, seafood.
Dislikes: Water, rats, dogs, losing, superheroes.
Habits/Quirks: Flashy young nightclub owner in public, fearless thief, mercenary and bounty hunter behind the scenes. Cares more about the ‘easy money’ generated by his life of crime than the nightclub business inherited from his father. Confident and vain, bordering on arrogant, he enjoys socialising and networking within the criminal underworld. Initially turning to crime to finance the expansion of his business, he started to spend some of his illicit earnings on developing the Alley Cat costume and persona, and began taking an expensive, black market super-solider serum as defence against superheroes. Through a series of clever business deals deals, smart alliances, and daring underground take-overs, he gained the monopoly over production of the serum, granting himself an almost unlimited supply.
Fears: Drowning, bears, revealing his identity.
    Family: Leon Blake (father)

    Woah!

Many thanks, Lull-carae, for finding something nice to say for every one of the creations I’ve made so far, and for bringing a smile to my face! It’s great to hear such positive comments, and it sounds like you really ‘understand’ most of the characters. Nice job on some of the puns, too. 😉

I don’t really expect people to read the large amount of information I write for my characters (it’s mostly for my own entertainment. Escapism for the win), but I appreciate the time it must have taken you to look and read through as much as you did.

Credit and Notes: All credit for the wonderful upside-down pose belongs to Kaldath. I made some adjustments, you can see the original here. After seeing the pose while browsing the forum, I just had to use it for my obligatory spider themed character. Many thanks, Kaldath.

    Profile

    Alias: Tarantula
    Legal Name: Marie Morgan
    Gender: Female
    Age: 25
    Ethnicity: Australian
Occupation: Criminal; Cat Burglar; Thief; Mercenary
    Height: 5′ 9″
    Body Type: Fit, Curvy
    Hair Colour: Auburn
    Hair Type: Long, Wavy
    Eye Colour: Light Blue
    Skin Colour: White
    Species: Mutant

    Powers and Abilities

Powers: Superhuman agility and reflexes, enhanced strength, wall-crawling, four extra arms.
Details/Limitations: Able to adhere to and climb on almost any surface in any direction, including vertically and upside-down – although struggles to climb sheer surfaces that are very wet or slick. While only twice as strong as a regular human, her agility, dexterity, and reflexes are enhanced well above normal levels. Additionally, the mutation advanced in her early twenties to include the sudden and rapid growth of an additional two pairs of arms, bringing her total number of limbs to 8. All six arms can function independently of one another with equal dexterity.
Abilities/Skills: Infiltration, theft, espionage, stealth, gunplay, Taekwondo.
Costume: One-piece impact resistant, fireproof bodysuit; mask; utility/gun belt.
Weapons: Standard costume equips twin 9mm combat pistols with optional suppressor/silencer attachments. Has access to a variety of knives, sub-machine guns, and high-power sniper rifles.
Gadgets/Tech: Utility belt contains tracking devices, electronic lock-picking/hacking tool, caltrops, and a length of rope. Mask has night-vision lenses. Known to occasionally use knockout gas canisters and/or EMP grenades.
Physical Weaknesses: No real defence against physical damage or energy-based attacks, except for agility and reflexes.
Mental/Emotional Weaknesses: Vulnerable to psychic attack.

    Personality and Relationships

Primary Traits: Cunning, mysterious, cynical, introverted.
Likes: Money, art, technology, open-mindedness, history, stealing from museums, rock/punk music.
Dislikes: Prejudice, needless violence, society, rain.
Habits/Quirks: A clever, open-minded, and forward-thinking young woman who hid her powers in public throughout most of her youth. She became jaded and disenfranchised with humanity in her teens, after studying history and becoming aware of all the prejudice, hatred, and mistrust in the modern world. Upon growing extra limbs, no longer able to hide her powers, she became a victim of all the prejudices she already despised and – moving to Europe – withdrew into the criminal underworld. An excellent thief for hire, although she dislikes violence and avoids hurting people at all costs – only reluctantly killing if absolutely necessary. Prefers working solo, but sometimes allies with other villains as a means to make even more money; in order to finance an expensive yet secluded lifestyle. Despite her cynical attitude towards society, she will occasionally help the good guys with information if her evil allies put too many innocent lives at risk. Would have made an excellent superhero.
    Fears: Drowning, emotional attachment.
Family: Les Morgan (father), Maureen Morgan (mother), Jonas Morgan (brother).
    Romantic Interests:
Allies: Warhead, Alley Cat, Monsoon, The Botanist, The Huntress, I.Q., The Brass Bison

–Technically you can also have between categories. Wolverine isn’t just a mutant. He was given an adamantium skeleton coating. That might make him an augmented mutant. Artificial augmentation (surgical or suit-wearing) is not cyborg exactly.

I absolutely agree. In my opinion, surgical/genetic tinkering or augmentation usually results in what I would consider a ‘superhuman’, but I agree that suit-wearers with no powers are just ‘human’ and a being is only really a cyborg if it possesses both biological and mechanical/technological body parts. Definitely gives me something to think about regarding possible sub-categories/sub-species.
(I.e. If I created Wolverine, I would currently just write ‘Mutant’ for species, and differentiate between his natural mutations and later augmentations in the ‘powers/details’ section. I might add sub-species in parenthesis or try to be more specific in some way for any future characters)

Some people like the idea that trauma or repetitive and chronic abuse can ‘bring out’ the supernatural or magical or mystical ‘stuff’ that all of us have deep down. That would fall under human. Dr. Strange supposedly trained and traded for his powers. That’s human with outside augmentation.

For me, this falls under the broader definition of ‘Superhuman’. All of my ‘superhuman’ characters would have originally been regular humans, until a given accident, event or other outside influence/augmentation granted their powers. This inclues super-soldier serums or similar, ‘acts of God’ or natural accidents/disasters, etc.
Dr. Strange qualifies; even if any normal human could unlock the same/similar powers, he still has abilities that regular humans generally don’t. I guess it depends on how ‘magic’ works in the given universe or for the particular character.

Thanks for the advice, my friend. It gave me a lot of cool stuff to think about.

    Thank you!

Shocker was one of the first Spiderman villains I ever saw as a child, and I guess his costume stuck with me. I didn’t look at any images of the Marvel character before creating this design, but I did an image search afterwards and was ‘shocked’ at how close I got it.

Of course, it’s mostly down to the ‘fishnet’-like pattern . Looks completely different without it. I did choose the pattern and the design of the mask in tribute to Shocker, but the other similarities (boots, shape of the jacket, the colour orange, etc) are a complete coincidence.

I’m glad you think he looks different enough to be unique, it was a concern. I guess it’s a fine line between tribute/homage and rip-off! 😀

Side note; The main inspiration for his powers comes from another Marvel character; Sebastian Shaw.

Perfect! The edit makes the image much more convincing for me, especially considering the black background. I feel bad for causing you extra effort. 😛

You could definitely have left the original image alone and gotten away with it – as there’s nothing wrong with it at all – but I feel the edit gives a much more ‘realistic’ impression of him emerging from the shadows; makes the sword look extra awesome as the primary light source; and makes the eyes look more menacing, as I’d hoped.
I’d even say that it makes his skin colour/face look creepier, too.

    Great job, dude.

Notes: This ended up looking a lot more like the costume of the Spiderman villain ‘the Shocker’ than I intended. I’m pretty happy with that, though, as he was a primary influence on the character.

    Profile

    Alias: Warhead
    Legal Name: Warren Hirsch
    Gender: Male
    Age: 29
    Ethnicity: American
    Occupation: Criminal; Henchman; Mercenary
    Height: 5′ 11″
    Body Type: Stocky, Powerful
    Hair Colour: Ginger
    Hair Type: Short, Curly
    Eye Colour: Green
    Skin Colour: White
    Species: Superhuman

    Powers and Abilities

Powers: Kinetic and thermal energy absorption, enhanced strength, concussive energy blasts, self-detonation.
Details/Limitations: Able to physically absorb all kinetic and/or thermal energy generated by direct physical blows, bullets, throwing weapons, fire, explosions, and certain types of energy beams/blasts, while suffering no physical damage. His physical strength increases relative to the amount of energy absorbed; by absorbing multiple attacks from an opponent he will eventually become stronger than them, and therefore able to defeat them. If he’s able to absorb huge amounts of energy, he gains the ability to project powerful concussive blasts from his hands. At any time, he can ‘detonate’ all the stored energy in his body, resulting in a potentially massive explosion – although this would leave him powerless and is usually only used as a last resort. Stored energy naturally dissipates over time, and without it he possesses only regular human strength. Additionally, without almost constantly absorbing more energy he suffers frequent and unbearable headaches.
    Abilities/Skills: Demolition/Explosives, safe-cracking, wrestling, boxing.
Costume: Fireproof, shockproof mesh bodysuit with full head mask; boots; gloves; sleeveless jacket; gun and grenade belts.
Weapons: Equipped with an ornate six-shot revolver and a belt of frag grenades. Known to use plastic explosives and mines on occasion.
    Gadgets/Tech:
Physical Weaknesses: Any energy beams or blasts that do not rely on kinetic or thermal energy, as well as anything or anyone that can leech or drain energy from him. Quickly becomes powerless if somehow removed from all applicable energy sources.
Mental/Emotional Weaknesses: While at extremely low power levels, he suffers unbearable headaches that negatively impact his emotional stability, as well as his logic and reasoning skills. This causes him to be extremely vulnerable to mental attack.

    Personality and Relationships

Primary Traits: Psychotic, violent, brutish, sadistic, unstable.
Likes: Explosions, causing mayhem, bare-knuckle boxing, cage-fighting, easy money.
Dislikes: Law enforcement, superheroes, advertising, being manipulated.
Habits/Quirks: Sociopathic, angry, and sadistic, he enjoys criminal behaviour and inflicting pain on others while lacking the empathy to use his powers for good. Often resorts to fighting and causing explosions with himself at the centre as a means to absorb energy and make the pain in his head stop, something which goes hand in hand with his mercenary nature. Highly valued as a henchman among the smarter and more powerful villains, but too chaotic and unfocused to become a crime lord himself, he can actually show surprising intellect and composure when fully powered.
Fears: A padded cell, being unable to replenish his power levels.
    Family: Kane Hirsch (Brother)
    Romantic Interests:
Allies: Tarantula, Alley Cat, Monsoon, The Botanist, The Huntress, I.Q., The Brass Bison

Well, there’s the mystic-type origins. Someone who uses magic, but is otherwise normal. Then there’s always the “token of power” origin. Green Lantern(s) all get their rings, the original Thor was empowered through his hammer and couldn’t transform without it (it was disguised as a cane, in his unpowered form), and, of course, He-Man/She-Ra. ;-]

    Both good points, my friend!

Originally, I wanted to try and avoid ‘real magic’/mystic origins in my characters’ universe, but that changed when I created ‘The Blue Rune’ – who gained mystical powers from a token of power! 😛

I think any character who uses ‘real magic’ could fall into the ‘superhuman’ category? Maybe I could have a unique ‘magic user’ species.

‘Token of power’ origins are a little trickier, depending on the nature of then item; if the item bestows permanent superpowers I would consider that character a ‘superhuman’, whereas I would consider Hal Jordan (for example) as just ‘human’ as the token item contains the powers rather than the man himself.

    Very nice; cool design.

I’d like to see the head and shoulders in the shadows a bit more like the legs, just so those eyes really stand out. But that’s my only criticism! 😀
