Caption Contest 50 Winner

In a tough week filled with very strong entries, the winner of Caption Contest 50 (and his own custom black and white illustration of whatever he likes) is ... Tal!

contest50-winner

We had a lot of really good entries this week again, you guys are on fire! Or maybe that's Brigade's gun from the panel, I'm not sure. Regardless, I felt the following entries should be singled out as Honorable Mentions:

  • Skiriki: “I feel inadequate!”
  • Niall Mor: I hate commuting.
  • Frankie: “Damn! Of all the times to get earthquake in the pants.”
  • Blue Blazer: Jesus Christ! I thought this was a flashlight!
  • Dom: Ha! nobody expects the spanish inquisition!
  • Rob Rogers: Bwoom goes the dwynomite!
  • Socrates: Give me back my neck!!!!!
  • von Bek: Outta the way, I’m gonna be sat on!
  • HalLoweEn JacK: Who doesn’t have superpowers NOW?!

Look for Caption Contest 51 (can you believe it's been almost a YEAR of doing this?!) coming up soon for YOUR chance to win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like (within reason)!

Caption Contest 50

If you want to win your own custom black and white illustration of (almost) anything you like, put on your comedian hat and come up with the funniest caption for this comic book panel:

stormwatch-1-aegis-1994

I love the guy's expression. And his giant shoulders hunched over the relatively tiny-looking gun. Apparently I'm sick.

As always, the rules are simple. Leave no more than three (3) entries in the comments to this post, preferably keeping them somewhat suitable for a general audience. I'll choose and announce a winner in one week, who will receive a custom black and white illustration of whatever they like (within reason). That's it! So either get busy funny or get busy ... um, not being funny. Or something.

Contest 49 Winner

For the second time in two weeks (these things do seem to go in spurts), the winner of the weekly HeroMachine Caption Contest is ... Steve!

contest49-winner

This was a tough one to judge, there were a LOT of really good entries; clearly Cory was right, this was a very good panel to choose. I pulled out what I thought were the best of the best for Honorable Mentions, but a tip-o-the-hat to everyone who entered:

  • Ian: Citizen, you have a booger.
  • Cory: Wonder Twin Powers Activa…oops
  • Socrates: Can you hear me now
  • Blue Blazer: My MOTHER made these shoulder pads!
  • Rick: Got yer nose!
  • EnderX: “Our testers rated this helmet 0 out of 10.”

Steve will win another black and white illustration of whatever he likes (within reason), so congratulations again to him. If you want to win your own professional drawing, Caption Contest 50 is coming up soon, so stay tuned!

Contest 47 Prize: Mynx

Steve and I have completed his prize for winning Caption Contest 47, a woman he calls "Mynx" and her otherworldly feline companion:

mynx7

I struggled quite a bit with the cat companion, and still don't think I really nailed it. But overall it's a good illustration and I hope Steve's happy with it.

Want to win your own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like? All you have to do is win Caption Contest 49, going on right now!

Caption Contest 49: Keep 'em punchy

Some things just go naturally together, like peanut butter and jelly, Oreos and milk, Simon and Garfunkle and -- of course -- Tuesdays and Caption Contests. That's right, it's time once again to see if you can come up with the best replacement dialog for this comic book panel, and thereby win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like (within reason) from professional artist Jeff Hebert:

The rules are simple: leave your entry in the comments to this post; no more than three entries per person; and keep it relatively clean.

Good luck, everyone! Oh, and special thanks go to Cory for suggesting this panel be used for a caption contest, and to HalLoweEn JacK for promising to giggle if I used it. That's motivation we can believe in, my friends!

Contest 48 Winner

Congratulations (and a custom illustration of whatever he likes) go to our winner for Caption Contest 48 -- Runt82!

contest48-winner

I believe this is Runt82's third win, putting him tied with xStacy at the top of the all-time leaderboard.* This week's contest had a lot of great entries, including the following Honorable Mentions:

  • Xstacy: Ya gotta stomp these nonsense words before they breed.
  • Cavalier: “Don’t mock the boot purse!”
  • DJ: BRAM’S ICE CREAM! BUY SOME OR GET SHOT!
  • Frankie: “What? !MARB…?? What does that mean?”
  • Danny Beaty: MY NAME AIN’T “BRAM”!
  • miggo: POW! POW! POW!
  • Blue Blazer: My gun must’ve been made in China.
  • ninjast4r: “Where’s your bathroom? This BRAM muffin went right through me!!!”

I almost went with Cavalier's "boot purse" comment, mostly because I hope that "boot purse" becomes a common term, I think it's brilliant. I liked how a lot of these played with the whole idea of this big word flashing up in the panel as if the character could see it, that was downright post-modern.

In any event, many thanks to all the great entries, I appreciate your creativity and willingness to make with the funny! I'll have the next panel up in a bit, so be sure to check back for your chance to get in on some of Runt82's custom illustration goodness.

*In case you're curious, that list includes: xStacy (3 wins); Runt82 (3); Rob Rogers (2); Whit (2); Rick (2); Mark (2); and DJ (2). Edited to add HalLoweEn JacK (2).

Caption Contest 45 Prize: Half dragon

Lyogi and I have finished his prize for winning Caption Contest 45, an illustration of his D&D half-dragon character (no name given):

dnd-character-staff

You can win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like (within reason) by entering Caption Contest 48, going on now!

As a side note, the first version I did mistakenly had the character holding a big ol' sword, but it turns out he is a monk so that didn't work. But I thought the sword was cool so I'll post it after the jump:

Contest 39 Prize: Ork

Skulan and I have finished his prize for winning Caption Contest 39, my introduction to Warhammer:

ork6

That's an Ork, for those of you (like me) who don't know jack about Warhammer. Hopefully Skulan's pleased with it, and you'll like it enough to immediately leap into action on Caption Contest 48, going on right now!

Paging Meg, Lyogi, Redrain, and Steve

Four previous Caption Contest winners -- Meg, Lyogi, Redrain, and Steve -- have yet to get me their requests for their winning illustrations. I've been in touch with Meg, but the other three are e-mail incommunicado, so if you're one of them, please drop me a line. If you don't know yet what you want for your prize that's fine, I'd just like to let you know the offer's still out here.

Caption Contest 48: BRAM!

I wanted to do a caption contest with a big ol' onomontoPOWia, so here you go! Come up with the best replacement dialog for this panel and you'll win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like (within reason):

shadowhawk2-3-bram

The rules are simple: No more than three entries per person; all entries must be left in the comments to this post; and try to keep it clean (appropriate for late-night TV). You have one week, the winner will be chosen and announced next Tuesday.

Good luck everyone!
