Caption Contest 94: Incredible words!

With hearty thanks once again to Glenn3's "Say What? Pictures", your challenge this week is to come up with the best replacement dialog for this comics panel:

The presence of the headline adds a little wrinkle to this one. I can't wait to see what incredible words you come up with that have so stunned this attractive young lady!

The best entry (as judged by yours truly) wins the author's choice of either any item they like or any portrait to be included in HeroMachine 3′s final release, or a custom black and white “Sketch of the Day” style illustration (you pick the subject, I draw it however I like).

All entries must be left as a comment (or comments) to this post. Keep ‘em clean (appropriate for a late-night broadcast TV show), but most importantly, keep ‘em funny!

No limit on the number of submissions beyond normal self-editing (i.e. don’t spam crappy entries hoping to get lucky), so good luck to everyone. Contest closes next Monday.

Unclaimed Contest Prizes

If you have won a contest but have not claimed your prize, you've got one week to let me know what you want before your prize is revoked and turned over to the general community for voting on what they want to replace it with. You can comment on this post, you can use the contact form button at the top right column (the envelope) or you can email me directly at afdstudios@gmail.com. The full list of winners who haven't told me what they want is after the jump.

Character Contest 58 Winners!

Many thanks to everyone who submitted an illustration for Character Contest 58: Simply Your Best. It was a real treat getting to see the pieces you feel the best about, and in my book your'e all winners already!

So while I'm obliged to pick out just a relative handful (and only one winner) from all of those submitted, I really think you all deserve a big round of applause. There was hardly a bad one in the entire bunch.

And now, on to the images!

Caption Contest 93 Winner!

Thanks to everyone who shared their wit with us for Caption Contest 93! I've put together the Finalists after the jump, and then at the end I'll announce which of them is the overall winner.

First, though, I wanted to say "Welcome back!" to longtime poster Gargoyle323, who showed up to enter after a somewhat lengthy absence. Nice to have you back!

Second, although it was too long to fit in the balloon and thus is ineligible, I thought CPrime's Green Lantern homage was quite amusing:

In brightest day, in darkest dusk.
Captain Triumph does what he must.
Let those who worship evil recant.
Beware the Triumph… of my equestrian pants!

Now, on to your Finalists!

Character Contest 58: Simply your best

This week you get one shot, and one shot only, to wow us with the best thing you've ever done with HeroMachine (at least, the best thing that's never been entered in an HM contest before!).

No theme, no constraints beyond good taste, no limits. But you only got one entry, so you're going to have to decide which single image is most likely to blow the socks off the viewer. Agonizing, I know, but I'm evil that way.

Otherwise the contest rules are the same as usual:

  1. Use only a HeroMachine applet (no PhotoShopping except for basic cropping) to create a PNG or JPG of your entry, named as [your name]-[character name].[file extension]. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his "Bayou Belle" character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  2. Post the image to a publicly accessible website (ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the UGO Forums, etc.).
  3. Enter the name of your entry and a link directly to the image in a comment to this post. The image cannot have been used in any previous HeroMachine character design contest.
  4. The link to your image should go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). If you see "preview" or "rotate" somewhere in the link you're probably doing it wrong.
  5. I'll choose a winner next Monday, who will receive his or her choice of any item or a portrait to be included in the final HeroMachine 3 program, or a "Sketch of the Week" style black and white illustration (you pick the subject and I draw it up however I like).

You only get ONE entry this week, so make sure it's your best. And good luck!

(On a side note, admit it -- you would totally want the album from that highlight image at the top. It starts off with Rick Astley; it's like you're getting Rick-rolled before you even begin!)

Caption Contest 93: Fleeing the Scene

With hearty thanks once again to Glenn3's "Say What? Pictures", your challenge this week is to come up with the best replacement dialog for this comics panel:

I love this panel. Why is Captain Triumph flying away from a burning building? Or is it filled with some other noxious substance, perhaps left on purpose by our jodhpur-wearing friend (I put the over-under on fart jokes this week at 17)? I can't wait to see what you all come up with! The best entry (as judged by yours truly) wins the author's choice of either any item they like or any portrait to be included in HeroMachine 3′s final release, or a custom black and white “Sketch of the Day” style illustration (you pick the subject, I draw it however I like)!

Character Contest 57 Winners

Many thanks to everyone who entered Character Contest 57: Aquarius! I've picked out some of the best of them (in my personal opinion, of course) below, and at the end I'll announce which of them is the overall winner.

HM3: Graveyard

I had some trouble with the next item on the Replacement Prize list, which PapaKrok requested for winning Character Contest 51. It was "spooky graveyard background", and this is what I came up with (now in Background-Standard):

Part of the problem is, if you get too complicated then the two-color limit really hits you hard. So I settled on doing something more abstract that hopefully will serve as a good backdrop for adding in other spooky bits to create the exact scene you want.

Update: Here's the Replacement Prize list:

HM3: Snake mouths and banners

I just added the following item to Background-WordBalloons:

And the last three of these snake-like bits to Mouth-Standard as BakerDoc's prize for winning Character Contest 56:

Enjoy!

HM3: Owen head and logo

BlueBlazer requested a portrait of his nephew Owen for winning Character Contest 53, and it's now live in Head-Winners:

Frevoli requested a remake of this logo as his prize for a Friday Night Fights 2 consolation round:

And here's what we ended up with:
