Contest 34 Prize: Electrode

Runt82 and I have finished work on his prize for winning Caption Contest 34, and are proud to present ... Electrode!

Thanks to him for the character concept, we hope you like the final illustration.

Your chance to win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like (within reason) is going on right now with Caption Contest 38: Power Squat Happy Team JUMP!!, so head on over and try your luck.

Horror mini update

I've got all 52 Head items in and the 12 hand-held items, so I took a moment to whip up a scary-looking guy in the upcoming Horror Mini.

That's an assemblage of something like eight different "Head" elements, some (like the eyes, horns, and ears) duplicated and flipped. I like the effect of having one huge eyeball hidden behind the ball-less socket of an eye item, while the other giant eyeball has been moved in front of it to look like it's bulging out. Good times.

Here he is from a distance:

He's kinda nekkid on account of I don't have the clothing items in yet, but you get the idea. I like the effect of the two different interior colors combined with the red line color, all outlined in black with the "outline" feature.

The deadline on this is extremely tight, so I don't know if you'll have a chance to play with it in beta before it launches, but I hope you will for at least a day or two.

Bad Costumes: Rickrolled villains

I can't decide if "Eighty-Five", the "Galaxy of the Guardians" villain shown here, is built to look like a 1985 disco reject or if that's just a coincidence:

You've got the long, wavy, probably-permed hair, the huge cheesy grin, and the "Magnum, PI" macho-man mustache. If he had a headband I'd know it was a deliberate put-on but there's just enough doubt ... tell you what, let's pull back a bit and consider the rest of his outfit, maybe that'll tell us for sure.

Whatever else you want to say about the guy, he's certainly polite. I hate being executed by someone who doesn't even have the courtesy to introduce themselves first, so big props for that. Back to the costume, though ...

The long bulky cape, beefy thighs, and gold medallion clasps certainly suggest that the artist is slyly pulling our leg, but not ultimately definitive.

And then you get to the chest.

Oh my, the chest. Plunging v-neck skin-tight shirt plus almost bear-like manful hair definitely means the designer was for reals on this one. Wow. I bet his motto is "Manly men doing manly things in a manly way."

What's most depressing about this whole thing is that even centuries in the future, we'll still have mullets. And that's just sad, y'all.

Caption Contest 38: Power Squat Happy Team JUMP!!

I don't know if I find his stance, distended crotch, Eighties headband, or power-dump expression the most disturbing, but he's all yours now:

Come up with the best dialog for the missing balloon and you’ll win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like from professional artist Jeff Hebert! I've put this panel up before with the actual dialog, but I am pretty sure you can come up with something better than the original writer.

As always, no more than three entries, left in the comments to this post, and keep it relatively clean. Good luck everyone!

Contest 37 Winner

I am pleased to announce that the winner of Caption Contest 37 (the Thanksgiving Edition) is ... HalLoweEn JacK!

Don't get me wrong, I like cats just fine, but this caption made me laugh every time I read it. It's the look of absolute glee on the girl's face that does it. I don't condone kitty cruelty though, let's be clear on that!

Other honorable mentions from this round include:

  • Kaiju: Wow! I never knew hansel smeled so good!
  • Scorpidius: Wow, lets give mom a big hand!!. . . . . oh wait!
  • John D: Oooo yummy! Daddy DID come home for the holidays!!!
  • Jester: I’m so glad you used the Betty Crocker recipe… But what are we gonna tell her folks?

Many thanks to all the entrants! As always, I'll be posting the prize to the blog for everyone to enjoy (assuming JacK's all right with that). Check back in a bit for Caption Contest 38 and your chance to win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like!

Poll Position: Wolverine the Hunted

These "Who would be best to fight whoever" polls seem to be popular, so we'll give it one more go with everyone's favorite hero-on-the-edge, Wolverine:
