Character Contest 30 – Gadgeteer Winner

We had a lot of really great entries for Character Contest 30, which made judging quite difficult.

First, I wanted to highlight the submissions I thought had some element that went above and beyond the usual level, something that made me want to call them out as an Honorable Mention, although overall they weren't Finalists that I considered making the overall winner for one reason or another.

Caption Contest 72 Winner

Congratulations to the winner of Caption Contest 72 ... Danny Beaty!

I have to admit, this is the one I'd have chosen, too, I laughed out loud when I read it the first time. Congratulations to Danny, who wins his choice of either any item he likes, or a portrait of himself, to appear in the final HeroMachine 3 version.

Thanks again to everyone who entered and especially to all our Finalists!

Dick Giordano dies at 77

Very sad news for any of us old-time comics fans, as comics titan Dick Giordano died yesterday at the age of 77. Check the Comic Book Resources link for more info on Mr. Giordano's career, but suffice it to say he was responsible as either inker or editor for some of my favorite comics growing up.

I believe "Umber Hulk" is a registered term by Wizards of the Coast. Anyway, after the jump I'll put an alternate version with more background elements. I thought it got too busy, but now I am not so sure.

Things I Love: Awesomeness

Illustrator Neill Cameron has been putting together an "A to Z of Awesomeness". Each day he creates an illustration based on reader suggestions for each letter of the alphabet. For instance, here's his "M" entry, "Modok's Melancholy Mouseketeer Memories":

The illustrations themselves are great, and the subject matter is hilarious. I really like the idea and the execution both, hats off to him.

I've been trying to think for a while of some sort of collaborative effort like this, either where you all make suggestions for an illustration you'd want for the SOD, or somehow we make an illustration challenge for the day that you could work on either in HM or on your own. Any ideas?
