I believe "Umber Hulk" is a registered term by Wizards of the Coast. Anyway, after the jump I'll put an alternate version with more background elements. I thought it got too busy, but now I am not so sure.

I wouldn’t worry about the copyright – the U. Hulks in 3.0 and 3.5 looked more like giant ants anyway.

I think the foreground elements add depth, thou maybe include a piece between the left ‘hand’ and the foot, but the increased background doesn’t work. It blends in too much with Mr. Umber, and kind of looks like he’s surrounded by brown flame.
Amusingly, reading your blog is a major reason I can even analyse the sketch. You’re raising your own critics!
