Color my Character Challenge #3

The Challenge is to color in the character, without changing the character other than adding color to it. You can add a background or other designs, but you can not take anything away from the Character. All you have to do is copy the text Taleen Darkhope-Dakar by Kaldath  and  import it into Hero Machine and the character is ready to color.

Challenges are just for the fun of it, no prizes are offered at this time.

The 90’s Just Make You Wonder!

This week I present for your viewing ,, umm pleasure horror this 1990's redesign of wonder woman.

Now I don't know about you folk but this outfit  just doesn't say Amazon princess, nor does it give that American Patriot vibe of the classic Wonder Woman attire. No what I get from this is more along the lines of a visit to Sturgis North Dakota during bike week, or perhaps a visit to the local "Gentlemens" club. I know that Wonder Woman has a very shall we say checkered past, However this ensemble really pushes that boundary and shoves it in our collective faces.  In the end all I can say is the Wonder Woman was just another victim of the 90's and its EXTREME outlook.

Poll Position: Young Justice vs The Young Avengers!

This  Weeks Poll Pits Young Justice against The Young Avengers, specifically the following team members:

Young Justice: Robin, Superboy, Impulse, Wonder Girl, Arrowette, Secret, and Empress

VS

The Young Avengers: Iron Lad, Hulkling, Patriot, Wiccian, Stature, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), and Speed

[polldaddy poll="6770132"]

Looking at this one on paper I am not sure who has the advantage in this one. At first blush I'd say the DC team has the bigger Guns with the likes of Superboy and Wondergirl on the team however Wiccian could be a big game changer in this one.  In the end if I had to choose a winner I will have to give it to Young Justice.

That's my opinion on the matter, but I want to know what you think. Leave a comment below defending your choice in this poll!!

Winner of Pop Quiz #3

From Herr D

Let’s start off with Keric. Good depiction. Love the facial expression. Two things dragged you below the others–A literal interpretation of a song, even one as offbeat as one of the Rocky Horror songs, is less original than the other entries. The other? Just in general, pictorial representation of music is HARD.

Next, The Atomic Punk. Well done. Let this be a lesson to all those going into the ‘escort’ business. Look at the horrific clientele that poor young thing would get saddled with! I do have a question. What was that gray oval over the hooker‘s head?

Sorry for my absence earlier. This is a duplicate of what I will post to the blog.

Keith? You had THE most original idea in the contest. You did the undersea scene very well. It broke my heart to have you tie for second. Strategy dragged you down. Too many difficult things to build in one picture. It occurs to me that the whole picture from another angle would‘ve been a lot easier — that that would’ve won. Impressive use of items–clearly the skill is there.

Scatman, you tied for second. Without even a background. Partly because it was remarkably realistic, in situation, pose, placement, and facial expression. Partly because your depiction of a muscular female is the best I’ve seen yet. In short, your technique was a crack shot.

Oh, my. Skybandit. I don’t even find flatulence funny. But good grief. NO ONE HAS EVER COVERED THIS ANGLE BEFORE? And you blanketed it. Realistic facial expressions. Fairly good blush. You even had the cape pop out. –okay, that part was funny to me too. Original, funny, and a great depiction of dramatic irony! Skybandit wins.

P.S.

Our friend djudy will be taking a break from the Pop Quizzes. I will start posting them this weekend. I am setting up a thread in the forums if you would like to make any suggestion. Or you can e-mail me at; thehammerknight@yahoo.com . My wife and I have been having fun judging the other contest and challenges. At this point I have not made any plans for the Pop Quizzes that are set in stone. I hope to have everything worked out by Saturday.

Many Thanks,

Hammerknight

Character Contest #H02 “Cryptozoology” Winner

This turned out to be a hard contest to judge, all of the entries were great. It took a while for Isia and I to narrow it down to just one winner. Following are all of the entries in no certain order.

And the Winner is:

Congratulations to Vectorman316. Good job to all of the entrants.

p.s. I hope you like the Comic Book pages.

Sunday Share Day #H1

Take yourself back to when you were a young kid. Remember the old TV shows and cartoons you would watch. Today would be a real good day to share them with us.

For me it was, reruns of TV shows like Batman, and Wonder Woman, and cartoons like Scooby Do and the Super Friends. World War Two movies and shows like the Rat Patrol. Sci-fi shows like Buck Rogers and old John Wayne movies and other westerns. I grew up in the 70's and 80's back when cartoons were cartoons, filled with wonder and enjoyment.

DJuby’s Pop Quiz #3: Isn’t it ironic!

Guest Poster and Judge: Herr D

Greetings and salutations. Some of you may know the term dramatic irony, and I’ll bore you with a simplistic definition--sorry. Dramatic Irony is when we know something that he /she / it / they don’t know.

So in today’s Pop Quiz, the audience (us, but most importantly, me) MUST know something that --

A: A character in foreground does not know.

Or

B) Clear majority in background does not know, but character in foreground obviously DOES know.

In general, I value creativity and humour highly. I’ll be judging somewhat late, so I apologize in advance for your wait. Oh, yeah--NO ONE HAD BETTER MAKE THAT GIFTED STUDENT FROM ‘THE FAR SIDE’ PUSHING THE DOOR THAT SAYS ‘PULL.’ We still have to avoid any semblance of copyright violation.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine forums, ImageShack, PhotoBucket, or whatever);

Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;

The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;

Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). See this post on how to get the direct link for most sites.

You get one entry, so make it your best!

This particular Pop Quiz contest closes Sunday, December 16th at 9:00pm eastern time and will be announced in forum sometime on Monday.

Friday Open Critique Day #H2

Here it is again Friday. Some say the best day of the week, because it is the last day of the work week. Others same it's just another day because they work weekends. For me I say it is Friday Open Critique Day. You know the deal, share with us and we will share with you.

“Hobbit” review

Thanks to my awesome full time employer, I got to see an ever-so-slightly advance copy of "The Hobbit" today. Plus I got a free glass of wine AND a free pizza AND a free peanut butter milkshake! Blogging retirement is AWESOME!

Anyway, here's my very quick review: It was good!

Here's my marginally longer review:

A little slow here and there, but it definitely held my interest. There are some fun set pieces with great fights, the portrayal of the Riddle Game is very good, and the story moves along well enough that I didn't feel cheated like I thought I would when I heard they were stretching it into three movies.

Having said that, I always felt like part of the charm of the Hobbit was that it was a small story that didn't bother us with all of the Big Goings On of the power players in Middle Earth. This version chucks a fair bit of that in favor of bringing in all the backstory with the battle against the Necromancer that Tolkien largely left out of the original narrative. I'm not sure I agree with that decision, but since it was made and this is the story Jackson chooses to tell, I do think he tells it well.

I'd give it a definite thumbs-up!
