The 90’s Just Make You Wonder!

This week I present for your viewing ,, umm pleasure horror this 1990's redesign of wonder woman.

Now I don't know about you folk but this outfit  just doesn't say Amazon princess, nor does it give that American Patriot vibe of the classic Wonder Woman attire. No what I get from this is more along the lines of a visit to Sturgis North Dakota during bike week, or perhaps a visit to the local "Gentlemens" club. I know that Wonder Woman has a very shall we say checkered past, However this ensemble really pushes that boundary and shoves it in our collective faces.  In the end all I can say is the Wonder Woman was just another victim of the 90's and its EXTREME outlook.

Never saw that one, but it is… interesting. Not really Wonder Woman, but better art than you usually see in the comics. I take it this ‘artistic inspiration’ didn’t last long in the actual comics?

This is what DIANA PRINCE ran around in while DC gave her job and wonderware to a substitute there was nothing about the regular wonderwoman that stayed! SO, IN THEORY, it could have gone on eternally, but thankfully it ended after the DC realized that you can’t strip away all that people recognize about a character, and STILL have that character!

It looks like she’s posing for an album cover.

“Here I go again on my own! Down the only road I’ve ever known!”

    Wonder Woman or Video Vixen?

  5. dblade says:

I actually like the artwork too, but not right as a crime fighting costume for Wonder Woman. Not iconic enough.

  6. Kaldath says:

Here is another look at this costume, though I most say this picture making it look like Diana spent a little time on a Medieval torture rack!!

  7. punkjay says:

For a 90’s redo this costume isn’t that bad. At least she doesn’t have guns or spikes jetting out of her, or pouches everywhere.

  8. Renxin says:

Now let us consider the difference between sexy, and slutty. Wonder Woman’s original outfit is sexy. This is more like an outfit for a character named Call Girl or something.

  9. fuzztone says:

Not too bad as redesigns go: it has the general problems with WWs costume (her accessories are a bit S&M, and why is she still wearing hotpants and a bra?). The 90s element only shows in the second pic; all those weird straps and buckles on the corset, serving no particular purpose.

  10. Myro says:

“Next up on stage, let’s give a Society Club welcome to Diana!” (cue 10 year old dance song with vaguely sexual theme).

Yep, that’s pretty much what I was thinking when I saw this. Although I do like the biker chick or ’80s hard rock album cover model explanations as well.

  11. Professor Anthrax says:

This just doesn’t work. That’s all I can say.

  12. DiCicatriz says:

It was the 90’s. She was listening to a lot of Tori Amos and Alannis Morissette. We’ve all been there, right?

Yes and no. Huge Tori Amos fan. Never was into the “Debbie Gibson of Canada.”

But, yeah… this Wonder Woman is more proof positive that the decade was bad for iconic superhero costumes.

  14. Nick Hentschel says:

I remember this one: it was what Diana wore when Artemis, however briefly, took over her job.

For me, its main failing is the brassiere-and-pants aspect, especially the hotpants (a garment I’ve grown to dislike). While it’s overall style (a jacket over a slinky, wearable outfit) is probably more comfortable and practical than the classic outfit (a 1-piece, bronze swimsuit), the skimpy elements of the suit ruin it. Had it been all one bodysuit under there, I could have “bought” it.

    Uhmm, Keric? You haven’t seen the “New 52”, have you? That’s exactly what the ‘relaunch’ is all about… {Sigh!}

    No I Haven’t bought a comic book in over a year{Sigh}
But I am willing to take your arguement under advisement,
bearing in mind that the writers toss out the continuity whenever they feel like it, and each issue of a comic is AT LEAST part of a three story arc and/or crossover and that companies relaunch with frightening regularity, Let’s LOOK at your new 52!
OGM! They made Sup’s into a WOMAN? Batman is a BEGGAR?
Aqua man is a FISH!- Nope none of THAT happened, You can still See that they are all the same people that they started out as
They kept enough that someone could recognize the characters.

Which is the point of MY post~there was nothing about the regular wonder woman that is in this outfit! I could not recognize her on a quick stroll past the comic book aisle in that time!

Now, I’m surprised such an “heroine” doesn’t already exists.

  18. Scatman says:

If you ask me she looks more like a “wannahaveFUNderwoman”!!
They need to change the W insignia to an S and caller SUPERHOOKER!Excuse the french.

  19. TOOL says:

I wouldn’t mind coming in from a long day at work and walking in my room to her like that on my bed!

  20. Dan says:

Sadly, we did this one already. Way back on Dec 15th 2010. Here’s the link. I remember it because it was the first thing I ever commented on here.

  21. steve says:

    She’s still Wonder Woman.
That’s because this cvostume change has made us all WONDER what the heck this WOMAN was thinking!!!

  22. fuzztone says:

I stumbled upon Hanie Mohd’s re-workings of DC Heroes costumes.

Here’s her take on Wonder Woman…

    Much more elegant, dont’cha think?

    Can’t ignore Catwoman in a sweater, either…

Ya know, that takes talent to redress a super hero, and not make them look goofy, even in the cases where I don’t like the style, she still does it in such a way that I still like it!
