You've still got one day left to try your luck at winning your own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like with Caption Contest 38, going on right now!

Create the next great video game star

The previously beta-tested Warrior Mini has now been officially released, and is available for use right now on UGO.com. But even better, the applet is the center of a new contest that is so cool I almost wish I weren't working for UGO so I could enter:

If your design wins, your character will be featured in a UGO-built online video game!

How cool is that?! Read the contest rules for more information, but basically you have from now until the end of January to work on your creation. You can enter up to five different characters. From the rules, here's how they'll be judged:

Winner Selection: All entries will be judged by a panel of three (3) judges comprised of members of the UGO editorial staff who will select five finalists based on the following criteria: Visual Design Aesthetic Appeal (30%); Visual Design Originality (30%); Character History (20%); and Character Name (20%). Judging for the five finalists will take place on February 2, 2009.

And once again, the winning character will be featured in an online game built by and featured on UGO.com. Yes, that's right, you could be the next great action hero. Or at least, someone you make up could be, which is darn close.

Anyone who wants to pose questions about design techniques or to get feedback on what you've built, feel free to post it here or hit up the UGO HeroMachine forums. The guys there have a ton of experience building cool characters using the HeroMachine tools and can probably give you some good pointers.

So get out there and start creating, and good luck to everyone!

Update: Just to be clear, you must create the character with the tool linked above (no other HM version) and it must be submitted via the "Submit to Contest" button in the applet. No other submission method will qualify.

Contest 34 Prize: Electrode

Runt82 and I have finished work on his prize for winning Caption Contest 34, and are proud to present ... Electrode!

Thanks to him for the character concept, we hope you like the final illustration.

Your chance to win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like (within reason) is going on right now with Caption Contest 38: Power Squat Happy Team JUMP!!, so head on over and try your luck.

Caption Contest 38: Power Squat Happy Team JUMP!!

I don't know if I find his stance, distended crotch, Eighties headband, or power-dump expression the most disturbing, but he's all yours now:

Come up with the best dialog for the missing balloon and you’ll win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like from professional artist Jeff Hebert! I've put this panel up before with the actual dialog, but I am pretty sure you can come up with something better than the original writer.

As always, no more than three entries, left in the comments to this post, and keep it relatively clean. Good luck everyone!

Contest 37 Winner

I am pleased to announce that the winner of Caption Contest 37 (the Thanksgiving Edition) is ... HalLoweEn JacK!

contest37-winner.jpg

Don't get me wrong, I like cats just fine, but this caption made me laugh every time I read it. It's the look of absolute glee on the girl's face that does it. I don't condone kitty cruelty though, let's be clear on that!

Other honorable mentions from this round include:

  • Kaiju: Wow! I never knew hansel smeled so good!
  • Scorpidius: Wow, lets give mom a big hand!!. . . . . oh wait!
  • John D: Oooo yummy! Daddy DID come home for the holidays!!!
  • Jester: I’m so glad you used the Betty Crocker recipe… But what are we gonna tell her folks?

Many thanks to all the entrants! As always, I'll be posting the prize to the blog for everyone to enjoy (assuming JacK's all right with that). Check back in a bit for Caption Contest 38 and your chance to win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like!

Contest 32 Prize

Whit and I have completed work on his prize for winning Caption Contest 32 -- the beautiful and deadly Annie Mae!

You can win your own black and white illustration of whatever you like by coming up with the best entry for Caption Contest 37, going on now!

Contest 33 Thanksgiving Prize

From the fertile mind of Caption Contest 33 winner and Maryland fan Mark Shute comes this heartwarming image of a big giant Terrapin beating up a Virginia Tech Hokie which, despite the protestations of VT devotees everywhere, is just a big turkey:

You can win your own black and white illustration of whatever you like by coming up with the best entry for Caption Contest 37, going on now!

Caption Contest 36 Winner

I am happy to (belatedly) announce the winner of Caption Contest 36 as ... TheNate!

contest36-winner.jpg

I really appreciated TheNate's originality and unique spin on this one, I think the line perfectly captures both the look on the guy's face and the weird stance. Plus I just love the idea of a criminal techno-mastermind being stymied by a child-proof cap, that's classic. I look forward to getting the details on what the prize illustration will be.

Having said that, there were a number of great entries, including the following Honorable Mentions:

  • Vengeance: Every body dance. Now!!
  • John: …wha? Batteries not included? *&^% Wal-Mart!
  • HalLoweEn JacK: mmm mm MMMMMMMMM! mmm mmmmm mmmmmm!
  • Whit:Let’s see, that’s left, left, A, B, right, X, B…
  • devo6: Great Spiraling Sperm!! These Gloves make texting impossible!!
  • Kramer: (in small print) “I think… I think I just soiled my armor.”
  • Jester:(and, to quote a line from one of my new favorite movies) Ok, let’s face it: This isn’t the worst thing you’ve caught me doing.

Good stuff this week, thanks everyone! If you didn't win this time around, never fear -- Caption Contest 37 is going on right now, so head on over and try your luck for a chance to win your own professional illustration!

Caption Contest 37: A Thanksgiving pie of … ?

I don't know what's going on in this panel, but someone is sure excited about it.

wildcats-34-pie.jpg

Come up with the best dialog for the missing balloon and you'll win your very own custom black and white illustration of whatever you like from professional drawing-type-person, Jeff Hebert! With Thanksgiving this week, I thought this was an appropriately warm domestic scene to throw at you, so we can then proceed to defile it with our juvenile, biting, sarcastic, and probably disgusting humor. Good times!

As always, no more than three entries, left in the comments to this post, and keep it relatively clean. Good luck everyone!

Caption Contest 36: "MOM! I TOLD YOU TO KNOCK FIRST!!"

It's time once again for the Internet's Mightiest Caption Contest, brought to you by Jokin' Jeff the Japemeister and the entire Bertram Bullpen!

Whoops, got taken over by the spirit of Stan Lee for a moment there, my apologies. But you can understand the confusion, given that the Caption Contest panel for this week was drawn by none other than that mighty penciler of legend and Stan Lee contemporary, John Buscema!

If you come up with the funniest/best replacement dialog for this comic book image, you'll win your very own custom black and white illustration by professional artist Jeff Hebert of whatever you like (within reason). The rules are simple: No more than three entries per person, left in the comments to this post, which are all to be PG-13 rated or better. That's it, so put on your thinking cap and start captioning!
