Can someone explain WTH is happening here?

Friday Night Fights 3 Final Results

I've had a great time watching the amazing teams you all put together for the third Friday Night Fights. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity, time, and passion with everyone else, it's definitely appreciated.

After five weeks of challenges, we've arrived at last at the final vote. After careful vetting by the accounting firm of Polldaddy & Polldaddy, here are your final results. The winner of Friday Night Fights 3 is ...

Congratulations to DiCicatriz! That was an impressive, and in many ways subtle, group design. MartianBlue also had some killer characters and is a more than worthy runner-up. If we hold to serve as we have in the past, next time out he should win it all, since it appears the previous contest's runner-up has won each time out. Weird!

In the Consolation Round, the results are:

Well done, AJW! Let me know what you'd like for your prize.

Thanks again to everyone who entered, commented, and/or voted! Just as a final capper, here are all the results compiled into one list. If you're on here and haven't told me yet what you want for your prize, please let me know.

And hungry — VERY hungry! BRING ME MUNCHIES OR I CUT YOU!

Kraaaaaaaaan!

When last we left our intrepid Lone Wolf, we were deciding whether to leap off the ship in hot pursuit of the evil warlock who's been plaguing us, or to jump ship. We voted to visit the watery depths, resulting in:

Kraaaaaaaaaaaan!

Kraaaaaaaaaaaan!

Ahem. Having regained our dignity, we now turn the page. Things get pretty intense from here on, so I'm going to step aside as narrator and just show you what happens.

Why can't I get THIS guy as my arch-nemesis?!

"Spelling" error

I applaud the efforts of super-hero costume designers to do something beyond the simple underoos-and-capes look. I really do. But sometimes, the classics are classic for a reason, and in trying to go off the beaten path you end up going off the rails instead. To wit, "Spellbinder":

Someone had this guy under a spell, all right. I imagine he went to the Super Hero Clothing Outlet and got whamboozled by the attractive and flirty sales lady. "I look dashing in this, really? Do you think it says 'Evil Magician Overlord? You do? I suppose you're right, and it really does set off my beautiful eyes, doesn't it? All right, I'll take it! And your number! Hello ... ?"

Seriously, it looks like someone happened across the scene of a tragic accident involving an eighteen wheeler full of discontinued restaurant tablecloths and a game store and thought "COSTUME!". I grant that the bizarre outfit might help him think onlookers are held in thrall, but it's just fashion horror, my friend.

You gotta oil up before a good licking

Original Justice League vs. Original Avengers

Our weekly Versus smackdown this time out comes courtesy of Sutter Kaine, and I think it's a peach:

{democracy:205}

The concept here was to take the teams as they were originally founded, with that era's characters and powers. With two very major exceptions -- I've removed Superman and Batman from the JLA roster. My rationale is that DC deliberately kept them out of most issues of the JLA comics as they had enough exposure elsewhere in the company's titles. My real reason is that, come on, that would be totally unfair and uninteresting.

Having said that, let's take a closer look, shall we?

Character Contest 74 75: Random-palooza

We haven't done a "random name" character contest in almost a year, so I think it's about time we revisited this always-fun concept.

It's pretty straightforward and a great way to stretch your creative muscles.

Whoever comes up with the best character based on a random name generated by Seventh Sanctum Superhero/Villain Name Generator will win a) his or her choice of either any item they like to be included in the final HeroMachine 3 version; b) a portrait to be included in the final HeroMachine 3 version, or c) a "sketch of the day" style custom drawing. The rules are fairly simple:

The person with the winning entry as selected by our expert panel (i.e. me) will win their choice of a) a portrait to go in HeroMachine 3, b) an item to go in HeroMachine 3, or c) a custom black and white "Sketch of the Day" style drawing (also by me). The rules otherwise are the same as always:

  • Go to the Seventh Sanctum Superhero/Villain Name Generator and choose "10" from the number of names to generate. Leave the other selection boxes at their default and hit "Generate". Your character(s) must be based on one of these generated names. Try your best to limit yourself to one spin of the wheel instead of generating names over and over till you get one you like!
  • All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the UGO Forums, whatever);
  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • The image cannot have been used in any previous HeroMachine character design contest;
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension]. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his "Bayou Belle" character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). If you see "preview" or "rotate" somewhere in the link you're probably doing it wrong.
  • All entries must be in by next Monday, when I'll choose a winner.

No limit on entries this week, so knock yourselves out. Just make them good!
