Good show, sir!

I love fantasy and science-fiction books, and since I've been interested in art since I was a kid, I often spend more time than your average bear (or Hebert, for that matter) staring at the cover art. Which explains why I love "Good Show, Sir!" so much; they profile particularly obnoxious book jacket art with good-natured ribbing. Right up my alley, and hopefully yours too! Here's a quick sample of one from the first page that made me laugh:

Eron Comments: The third in this utterly original series. Which features “Magick” with the added “k” which must mean serious fantasy is about to be had! In addition, we get a phenomenal rendering of the back of some random knight and a severely constipated dragon trying desperately to crap himself in terror at the War of the Worlds spaceship blowing the hell our [sic] of it’s [sic] castle with a laser that comes from nowhere.

I've added it to my RSS feed and it's always good for a laugh or two on lazy weekends like these, when you should probably be outside but aren't.

SOD.114 – Iron Man

Apologies to "Iron Man Animated Adventures" for stealing their logo.

RP: Breaking the rules, super-hero style

(From "Amazing Man" number 8, wherein Amazing Man steals his plane from police impound, steals a crapload of ammo and guns from the military, breaks and enters, and kills a bunch of people. Those were the days when a hero was a hero, pal!)

SOD.113 – The real reason for the Iceland volcano

RPG Corner: One if by land, two if by interdimensional portal broom

rpgcornerheader
Welcome to RPG Corner, a place where you can share your knowledge and thoughts of the Role Playing Game world. Each week we will have a new topic to discuss, so feel free to talk it up, make suggestions, post images, and have a good time.

This week's topic is getting around, and I don't mean what happens if you eat too many donuts.

A lot of travel in RPGs can come down to your GM waving his hand and declaring your characters are where they wanted to go. But it's a lot more fun when your mounts get brought into the picture. Whether your ride is a battle-trained pure Arabian stallion or a fusion-powered time-traveling DeLorean, transportation can be the key to fun.

So what's your favorite ride from any of your RPG exploits? How do you get around when you have the choice, whether by air or sea or ground? Have you ever had a vehicle or mount that was truly bizarre, memorable, or just flat-out fun?

RP: Iron Skull enemies, just as dumb with knives as bullets

(From "Amazing Man" number 8, featuring "The Iron Skull" in this section. Tip to Iron Skull enemies -- AIM FOR SOMETHING BESIDES THE SKULL!!)

Open Help Thread – Critique Day!

I've been too busy drawing and re-drawing armor to come up with something clever for today's Help Topic, so consider this an open thread to talk about whatever you like. Or ask a question about HeroMachine or drawing stuff too, of course, but in general this space is now Open To The Public.

Edited To Add: On second thought, you can also use this to post a character you have, or have been working on, and would like a (friendly!) critique about. I'll be happy to give an opinion on what I think works, what doesn't work, things you might do, etc., as would the other commenters, I am sure.

SOD.012 – Pencils

I hardly ever draw with anything but my Wacom tablet, and when I do it's almost always just a doodle while I'm on the phone or whatnot. Someone asked for a sample of that the other day, so here you go -- I drew this while talking with a realtor about an upcoming move. It's actually drawn with a ball-point pen on a piece of note paper because that's what's by the phone.

HM3: Armor addendum

I just posted a handful of new armors to the HeroMachine 3 Tops-Male-Fantasy-Armor set. The two things in particular I'd like your feedback on are the shading and patterning on this one (uses the 30% shadow integrated into the object, pattern doesn't go on the metal borders or skulls):

And the chainmail effect on this one (chain links are color2), namely, does it work and look good like this or should I do the links throughout the entire shirt:

Thanks! As usual, if you don't see the new items, clear your cache in your browser.

RP: Maxium innuendo density achieved, captain
