Power User Profiles: Vengeance

I'll be honest, I didn't originally consider this week's nominee when I first brought back the PUP's on the basis that I thought he'd already done one. He's got to have gone the longest between being nominated and actually getting to do a profile, having been nominated way back on the first ever PUP. Like all the best 'machiners, he has an easily identifiable style that means you can tell whose work it is just by looking and his costume designs are always very well thought out and visually interesting. So, here you go Vengeance, this one is long over-due.

Poll Position Hiatus

Hello Folks, I am taking a short break, (this week and perhaps next week as well ) from writing the Poll Position post as I am beginning to have some trouble coming up with some compelling topics for them. I will use this time to either research some topics of come up with a new style of posts to replace the poll position with. I have just been laid off my job for the winter ( seasonal job ) so I have some time on my hands to put into figuring out my next step here!

Character Design Contest ♯47- Giving Up For Ghost(s)

This week, as it's halloween, I would like you to break out the bedsheets and show me your best ghoul, ghast or ghost. You are free to do any kind of non-corperal entity, from a pernicious poltergeist to a frightening phantom. You can do this any way you want, horror-centric, fantasy, historical, real-life or you could do a Boston Brand (not literally, 'cause that would beak the rules, but you get the idea). No zombies are allowed (on account of them being corperal entities), but possessed objects/ people do count, as long as there is some evidence of said possessing spirit.

As per usual, there are no entry limits, the contest will close at 12am Sunday (blog time). Please read the rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

Special Halloween Pop Quiz – Winner!

Thanks to everyone who came out to play for this unscheduled Pop Quiz - Halloween Mashup! Some really great creations, some downright creepy and others done with tongue planted firmly in cheek. This was a very tough call simply because they all captured the theme so well. There were three, however, that kept me coming back again and again, finding little details I had not noticed before. They were Vampire/Nurse by David Antstiss, Leprechaun /Fairy by CantDraw, and Alien/Samurai by Calvary Red.

Since I have to choose a winner I am going with CantDraw's Leprechaun Fairy. Amazing attention to detail. Well done. Be sure to check out the Blog on Saturday, November 1st at 9am Eastern for the next Pop Quiz.

Character Design Contest ♯45 Winner

This weeks poll had the highest number of votes we've ever had. And whilst it wasn't as much of a walk over as some previous polls, there was a very clear winner. And that winner was OnionBeam for Witch Of The Forest.

Friday Night Fights: Historic SuperHeroes Entries!

FNF Historic Logo

Last Week for my weekly Poll Position post I had asked you to decided the Theme for Friday Night Fights and your decision is in! After a tough back and forth battle between Monsters and Historic Super Beings,  it has been determined that the Theme for the 5th Friday Night Fights by you votes will be .... Historic SuperHeroes ( or villains ).

What that mean is this. I will be providing you with five periods of time and it will be your job to select a TRUE historic figure from that time period and re-image him/her as a SuperHero ( or villain ). You must stay as true to the time period as possible while designing Super Costumes and gear which should provide a true challenge for all you talented HMer's out there. What does a Medieval European Super's custom look like ? Or an Ancient Egyptian Super Villain look like ? Have fun and let those creative  juices flow.

Now Here is How it is going to work: You are to create for me FIVE  pictures one for each of the five categories listed below. The images can be created with any version of HeroMachine you wish, however the image must have been made completely within HeroMachine, no editing with any photo editing software save for basic cropping and the addition of a "Simple" boarder. Once you have these pictures created you are to Name the file in the following manner  Roundnumber-Charactername. So for example if I created  a SuperHero George Washington for round one I would name the file "Round1-George Washington" ( or "RoundOne-George Washington"). Failure to name the files properly will result in disqualification from the contest.

Once you have your pictures created and named properly you are to EMAIL them to me at Kaldath@gmail.com . DO NOT post your entries to the comment section of this post, also DO NOT post your entries for public viewing until AFTER the appropriate round for each image has concluded.  You have one Month for today to create and submit your entries to me with the deadline being 12 Midnight Eastern Time November 25th 2013. You are limited to only ONE SET of entries for this contest, and all entries are final, substitutions will not be allowed so make double certain you have your images the way you want them to be before sending them to me.

The contest will be judged by you the members of this community via rounds of voting. The first round is a qualifying round where the top 16 entrants based on your votes will move on to the true competition and will compete in a bracketed tournament pitting each entrants against each other in head to head polls to determine who moves on to the next round.

The Five categories for this contest are as follows:

Round One: Early America - The Time period from the landing at Plymouth Rock until the US Civil War

Round Two: Medieval Europe - The time periods from roughly about 500 AD to 1500 AD

Round Three: Ancient Egypt - The era when the Pharaohs rules the Nile

Round Four: The Roman Empire - The time from the First Caesar til the collapse of the empire, roughly 27 BC til 476 AD

Round Five: World Wars I & II - Covers the period of time between the beginning of World War I til the end of World War II

If you have any questions about the theme or how to submit you entry please feel free to ask in comments below. Also I would like to take a moment to note that the Heromachine community is fairly world wide with different world views, Historical figures one culture views as a Hero may be viewed differently by another culture so I do not want to see any bashing of people here if one persons interruption of a historical figure does not match your own! Though with that said I DO NOT want to see any Racist, Homophobic, or otherwise Bigoted type entries and will disqualify anything I believe crosses that line.

Special Halloween Pop Quiz Challenge!

2

Your Special Pop Quiz Halloween challenge is to mash up two traditional Halloween characters/costumes into one terrifying new creation!

Maybe a Zombie/Ballerina tickles your fancy; or a Vampire/Clown hybrid perhaps; or maybe a good old fashioned Werewolf/Fireman. Mash up any two characters/costumes you want and scare your competition spitless!

You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine forums,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). See this post on how to get the direct link for most sites.

This contest will close at 9pm Eastern on Sunday, October 27th .

Make It Sew: The Costume Blog – Gettin’ It Right With The Dark Knight

With Halloween just around the corner, I wanted to pay tribute to some Cosplayers who, in my opinion, got it right. Few Rogue's galleries in the canon of comics have inspired cosplayers more than Batman's. Whether they are paying tribute to the 1960's TV series or the more recent darker Dark Knight, the devotion to these iconic characters is evident in their astonishing creations.

banea

Well I guess the body helps, but this version of the comic book Bane is dead on.

cat1 cat2

On the left a brilliant take on today's Catwoman - rocking the goggles and bat-kicking boots, and on the right a faithful recreation of Michelle Pfieffer's whip wielding femme fatale.

freeze freezea

Two creative takes on Mr. Freeze. Love the LED illumination on the left.

harleya

A great Harley Quinn, and I think a tough costume to pull off due to the precision in construction and detail.

joker c jokera jokerb

Three terrific Jokers. One classic comics version, an eerily accurate tribute to Ledger, and one using prosthetics to further animate the killer clown.

penguina riddlera

A Devito-esque Penguin and a stunning Riddler that evokes both Gorshin and Carey.

scarea scareb

A couple of truly terrifying Scarecrows. If you check out the smile and eyes on the guy on the right, it may just be the same fellow rocking the classic Joker. If so, well done you!

twofacea

And finally, with the help of some creative prosthetics and a gruesome paint job, a creepy and creative Two Face.

Kaldath’s Caption Contest #13 Winner!

Last week I  asked you all to give me your best caption for the following image:

Of the entries submitted the following are my top five finalist............

See any pockets on this costume? I had to put my phone somewhere…

Calvary_Red
Let’s do the Time Warp again!

Frankie
“Darn it! Every time I hear a buzzing noise, I get convulsions, and end up in the spread eagle position.”

Timedrop23
I spoke to the clavicle and the elbow, and they agree the artist is a douche. What say you, mouth and flagrantly baggy crotch?

Rendu
“Phooey! Every time I try to step out of the panel, this shock-harness goes off!”

And the winner is ..................
