Pop Quiz – Jurassic Mash Up!
The plot of Jurassic World (which I am just a little too excited about) – beyond screaming and running for your life – revolves around the danger of creating genetically modified dinosaurs. Well I love danger!
In honor of Jurassic World, your Pop Quiz Challenge is to create a one of a kind dinosaur. Oh…and just to make it more dangerous, you cannot use any of the dinosaurs in the “Items” - “Companions” list in any way. Everything else is fair game.
There is no prize. There is no poll. The winner is chosen by me.
You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun! All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine forums,ImageShack, PhotoBucket, or whatever);
- Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
- The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;
- No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
- Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
- Please make the link go directly to the image(like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). See this post on how to get the direct link for most sites.

Character Of The Week: AMS- The Aviator
These last few weeks have really reminded me why I used to hero worship AMS when I first started heromachine. We spent so much time on COTW recently focusing on relatively new community members like Jeimuzu, Candruth and Ubiquitous Pixel and all the while AMS has been sitting there in the background and then, when the new guys let their guard down he's there with stuff like this. It's like listening to any of your favourite modern bands and then going back and listening to the stuff you grew up listening to, you quickly remember why you loved them so much (if we're talking bands, I'd say AMS is the Led Zeppelin of Heromachine). I suppose I should actually talk about the picture at some point in this post, so I shall quickly point out that AMS still puts over 3/4 of us to shame when it comes to shading and the metallic sections of the costume are sublime.

Character Design Contest ♯125- Two Great Tastes
Ok, let's do a theme we haven't done in a while. For anyone who hasn't done a TGT challenge before, basically the idea is to take bits from two genres and mash them together to create a character. For example you could mash Sci-Fi and Western up to make a cyborg cowboy. In previous TGT contests I've given you guys a specific genre that you have to mash with others, but this time I'm gonna let you guys have free reign. You can mash up any of the following genres: Superhero, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Martial Arts, Western, Anime, Noir, Steampunk and Horror.
Oh and you can have the poll back now. I don't much feel like having to decide the winner on my own again.
As per usual, no limits on entries and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.
Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Character Design Contest ♯124 (JR’s 100th) Winner
Well, that certainly was a most enjoyable contest. Everyone was on top form and all of the entries were excellent. Some were funny, some were creepy and some… no, all were plain awesome. And that just makes it even more difficult for me to decide who the winner is going to be.So, even though we have no poll this week, let's get a run down of my top 5 shall we.

Character Design Contest ♯123 (All Winners Squad) Winner
Definitely an interesting result for this one. It was a close poll, 8 votes between the top 3, which is always nice, but I for one certainly wasn't expecting our eventual winner to pick up the win, considering some of the other entries. But I guess the picture explains how he pulled it off. Either that or this meme is more popular than I thought. So congratulations to CosmicComics for picking up his second win in as many weeks with his pic Aliens. And of course well done to everyone else who entered.

I'm sorry this is late, guys. My computer's been a little flaky.
How this goes: You post a work of yours, finished or WIP, and then others give you critiques on your work. I do not mind if you post non-HM pictures or piece of writing. Just make sure that you only post pictures that are your own design and not any that are copyrighted or based off of copyrighted characters.
Also, if you post a work, it is highly recommended that you also give someone else a critique.
Even this is called Open Critique Day, I allow (even welcome!) for you guys to post and discuss on this for the weekend until 11:59 pm Sunday.

Character Of The Week: AMS- Disturbed & Maverik1313- t90
Well, it's been a while since we've had an AMS picture as COTW hasn't it. Strange really, because he is still the most consistent member of the community when it comes to his characters and designs. And of course this is no exception (despite the fact it is neither his character nor his design, but an Art Trade with someone on deviantart but anyways). Best bits for me, apart obviously from the shading which is always a highlight when talking about AMS, is the energy effect on the right hand (especially with the white outline that borders the hand, which is a great touch) and the background. Having the background allows the character to stand out more, but the fact that that background is dissected by a number of white lines just makes it that bit more visually interesting.

And that was originally going to be that. Round of applause for AMS and we jump to the also awesome for the week. However, I woke up this morning and found this in amongst all of the stuff that had been posted while I was asleep.
Now anyone familiar with Mav's work knows that he does a lot of recreations of military vehicles, but this is something else. Not only is the tank superbly constructed (and when I say superb I mean it. He's used zips for treads and a pole-arm as the gun barrel for gods sake). And then you have the background. I love the colours in the sky, it's not your normal blue sky with a bit of yellow to show that it's sunrise, and it really sells the fact that it's set in a desert. Brilliant.
