Wicked Cool Curves — a Kickstarter for a friend of mine

wickedcool

Hey all, Jeff here, begging your pardon for a bit of non-HeroMachine-related promotion on behalf of a friend of mine. Andrea Glockner is launching a Kickstarter today for awesome, custom-made workout gear for every body. Called “Wicked Cool Curves”, it’s fun, colorful clothing for life, designed to fit and flatter curvy and plus-size bodies in a size-inclusive and body positive manner.

It seems like plus-size clothes are designed to be boring on purpose, but Andrea  has finally brought some color, flair, and pizzazz to them with her custom-colored, super comfortable line.

Given the passion of this community for customizing their creativity, I thought this was a perfect product to bring to you all. I hope you’ll spread the word and make a contribution of even $1 (the sheer number of donors really helps boost her up the Kickstarter charts even for just that one sawbuck).

Thanks for supporting a like-minded creative person!

Whiz Bang Item Creation Poll: Military Tops (Poll#003)

[polldaddy poll=”9160295″]

The Machinists have spoken and they want more tops. This week’s theme is military style tops. I will be creating both a male and female version of the winning item.

Feel free to make art suggestions for future polls. I will be doing Tops for the next poll, followed by Headgear of some sort.

Character Design Contest ♯146- Transformations

Ok guys, time for a challenge. What I want you guys to create for me this week is a character undergoing some form of physical transformation. Now, a few basic ground rules before we start. 1. The character must originally start out human, but they may transform into something or someone that is either human or non-human. 2. The character must be shown undergoing the transformation, so no before & after pictures. You can do a sequence showing the transformation, so long as the sequence is all in one picture, or you can show the transformation in its middle stage in one image so long as it is obvious what the person is turning into. Oh and obviously when I’m talking about a transformation I mean a person physically changing their form to become something different, not someone putting on a disguise to look different.

Hopefully that should provide all the guidance you need.

As per usual, no limits on entries and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

If you don’t know how to enter, there’s a handy little diagram below the jump.

Character Design Contest ♯144 (Earth) Winner

I’d love to say that this weeks poll wasn’t a complete walk over, but that wouldn’t be true. It was pretty obvious who was going to win from the start, when one of the competitors takes a 20 vote lead before anyone else has even got 1 vote. Sorry to our other poll competitors but it seems that you just couldn’t keep up. Anyway, I’m sure you actually want me to announce the winner rather than yammering, so. The winner this week was none other than Fantasyman for his amazing Earth Dragon. Congratulations Fantasyman and well done to everyone else who entered.

Character Of The Week: CantDraw- Demoness

CantDraw-Demoness

Ok, so I think this is the first time I’ve actually featured CantDraw on COTW, which is amazing. But here we go, I’m doing it this week. As I’m sure everyone is aware, CantDraw has one of the most interesting and unique visual styles of anyone in the community and this is a fantastic example. Both incredibly cartoony (looking at the, ahem, exaggerated proportions) and psuedo-realistic (LOOK AT HER FACE!!!!) complimented by one of the best shading techniques out of any ‘machiner. Best bits? Err, the face, the right hand, the face, the shading, the face, the right hand and the face. Yeah, thats about right. Oh and such power in the pose. She’s just like “yeah, I’m going to kill you and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. And have I mentioned how much I love her face. That expression is ice cold. It’s actually the first time I’ve seen the chin up head used effectively in a manner that looks natural and not awkward in any way.

What a bunch of posers!!!

Now I could pull out my hype cards and tell you all about how I have some of the most spectacular poses in the history of heromachine.

I could.

I could tell you how I pulled out my trusty clicker finger and dove, head first, through the depths of the old post, and brought back treasure the likes you’ve maybe never seen!!

I could! I could do that…

What I can’t begin to describe to you though, is that feeling…
of joy
and bewilderment
your gonna get, deep inside, when you think back to the day…

I present to you : CHANNEL U

Project Hair

As some of you may know, I have considered my skills with creating normal Hair assets sub par at best. With that in mind I started thinking of ways to compensate for this weakness. I’ve been experimenting with resourcing hair art from existing pieces and transforming them into HeroMachine assets. My first experiment with this can be seen below. I used Sue Storm hair as a resource and created vector artwork that can be added into HeroMachine.

Original Artwork:

SueStormArtwork_CloseUp

HeroMachine Artwork:

Hair_FlowingTEST

Now the pitch. I’m asking any interested Machinists to scour the Internet for hair art that I can use as a resource for hair creation and then add to HeroMachine. For the first phase of Project Hair I would take the top 6 suggestions (either chosen by me or a poll) and add them into HeroMachine as soon as I can manage it.

Now the catch. Image Requirements and Suggestions:

1. The artwork must be black and white and created in a style that is compatible with the HeroMachine aesthetic. Essentially Comic Book style inked artwork like the Sue Storm example above.

2. Avoid hair with headgear. I just want the hair.

3. Bigger is better. If the image is too small it may be hard to see the details necessary to create the hair artwork.

4. I’ve found inked artwork depicting heroes with lighter hair, better suited for HeroMachine adaptation. Dark hair is usually depicted with larger black areas. If we want hair with bigger, black  shapes we can go that route though.

5. Post the link of the artwork into this blog post. Or jump on over to my item creation thread in the forums and add the suggestion there. https://www.heromachine.com/forums/topic/dblades-whiz-bang-item-dispenser/

Together we can make HeroMachine a whole lot hairier.
