Hey all, sorry about the problems. I tried it myself and got “Error 108 – Could not create user folder” when uploading a forum image, so I changed the permissions on the forum upload folder, tried again, and this time it worked. Can you try uploading something and letting me know if it works for you as well?

Hey guys, sorry about that — it should be fixed as of last night.

The fundamental issue is that the “Custom artwork” ad is just an image with an anchor link around it to make it clickable. It’s not technically an ad, so any Ad Blocking software you use doesn’t remove it automatically. However, the in-app ad DOES get blocked and removed, which moves up the entire block the custom artwork image is in so that it now is 250 pixels higher than it ought to be.

The solution I put in place last night was basically to layer the image ad underneath the layer the app is on. That way, even if the top ad is blocked, moving the image ad way up, it gets layered below so you can still use the app.

TL;DR> If you had an ad blocker running you’d get this problem, but now it should be fixed.

OK, after a couple of false starts, this should be “fixed”, by which I mean I removed the WordPress bar at the top of the screen that was intercepting the “N” keystroke.

Yes indeedy, “n” appears to be a shortcut for something in the WordPress admin bar. Not ideal. I’m about to insert a code snippet to hide that bar completely, but the last time I edited the file in question the entire site barfed. So if that happens, this is why.

As JR said, the explanation’s a little unclear. Basically you need to export your character from HeroMachine 3 as an image, not as text. The text file won’t do anything.

When you export it as an image you’re prompted to decide where to put the picture on your hard drive. Note where you choose — on my Mac, by default it goes to my “downloads” directory. Also by default, if you haven’t named your character anything the file will be called hm3-beta I think.

Anyway, when you’re in the “add files” part of the forum dialog, you have to point it to wherever it is on your hard drive that you saved the picture.

I know, I end up re-using a lot of old projects for HM items as well. Or custom character drawings, whatever. And vice-versa — once you have big library of Flash art it’s REALLY easy to find uses for them

The only thing I can think of is that there’s some kind of extension or add-on causing the problems, or that there’s something funky in your cache, because no one else is having the issue. It almost has to be something local. Like Kaldath I used Chrome, but I have Firefox installed and it’s working properly as well.

I’d start with clearing your browser cache, then disabling your extensions temporarily, and see if that helps.

Other than trying another browser I’m not sure what to suggest. Let us know what happens, if it’s still not working then I can look into it further, maybe it’s a permissions issue or something. Although in that case I’d think it wouldn’t even give you the option to try to upload something …

I’m stumped. I tried changing permissions and such but it doesn’t seem to be helping. I went ahead and coughed up the $100 for “Gold Membership” on the Simple:Press forums, which seems weird — make your forums barf, then make people pay to get access to help to fix them! — and requested help. We’ll see.

At least the files are all there, it’s just that Guests can’t see them. Hopefully I’ll get it sorted soon.
