Character Design Contest ♯136 (Winging It) Winner

Much better turn out this week than last week. Hopefully this isn’t going to be come a recurring thing where we have a good week then a bad week then another good week and so on and so forth. Anyway, the winner. Now, our winner this week obviously has just bought themselves a new pair of shoes, because they quite literally walked this poll, taking 45% of the vote (also, very interestingly, this poll went in alphabetical order, which amuses me). So please join me in congratulating Anarchangel, whose pic The Raptor soared higher than all others this week.

Pop Quiz – I Didn’t Like My Beard At First…But It Grew On Me.

Stop-met-het-maken-van-deze-grooming-fouten-6lk

On this day in 1698, Russia’s Peter the Great imposed a tax on beards.

Your Pop Quiz challenge this time around is to create a beard that would have cost a fortune in rubles to maintain.

There is no prize. There is no poll. The winner is chosen by me.

You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine forums,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

Characters Of The Week: Jeimuzu- Various

And it’s back to business as usual for COTW. After taking a hiatus for a couple of months, Jeimuzu has finally decided to show up again and, by the looks of it, being away has only made him better. Though hopefully that’s not a trend.

Open Critique Day #30

Well, OCD is now back! I’m sorry for the long time I’ve gone without posting it; other things had popped up during the summer.

How this goes:  You post a work of yours, finished or WIP, and then others give you critiques on your work. I do not mind if you post non-HM pictures or piece of writing. Just make sure that you only post pictures that are your own design and not any that are copyrighted or based off of copyrighted characters.

Even this is called Open Critique Day, I allow (even encourage!) for you guys to post and discuss on this for the weekend until 11:59 pm Sunday.

Pop Quiz – Winner!

Six entries this week, and some amazing work.

First…Stagebat: cool outfit, love the dude checking her out, and the fact that she is in black and white given the challenge is brilliant. Barefoot? Not so sure.

Next is Dreadyacht…good job and the boots are a nice touch.

Geno…I love the print, and the fact that she is actually “walking down the street.

Cliff…the attention to detail is beautiful; hat, pearls, matching gloves/bag/shoes …love it!

Brons gave us a hip young gal and a great colour combo.

…and Blunt Object provided a great tribute to Jackie O. (K at the time, I think). The glasses are genius!

So this week, the win goes to Cliff, with Geno coming in a dangerously close second. Join me in congratulating Cliff, and thanks to all who entered.

See you Saturday!

Character Design Contest ♯137- It’s All Greek To Me

♯Cliche title

Anyway. What I want you guys to do this week is create an image based on Ancient Greece. It can be based around historical events, such as Thermopylae or the ancient Olympics (just no nudity please, let’s keep this PG), historical figures, such as Socrates or Alexander The Great (yes he was Macedonian, but he counts) or you can do Greek Mythology, classical heroes, the pantheon or the numerous creatures and monsters of Ancient Greece. Now, I love Greek history, so alongside the usual creativity criteria that I judge by, I will be looking at historical accuracy as well. So don’t make the writer of the Iliad yellow skinned whatever you do.

As per usual, no limits on entries and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

Character Design Contest ♯135 (Modern Gods) Winner

Ok, so we’re back to having less than 100 vote turn outs are we? Great (sarcasm). But one good thing is that this weeks poll was insanely tight. I mean, second place was 3 votes off first, with third being only one point behind second and fifth only being sixteen votes behind first. So no runaway winner this week (for most of the week it was practically a three way tie for the win, which would have been quite something). But the person who did eventually come out on top was DiCicatriz for his interpretation of Xochipilli from Aztec mythology. Congrats DiCi and well done to everyone who entered.

Pop Quiz – Pretty Woman

orbison_wide-2249eda77127479c949924e7305e80349a78672d

On this day in 1964, Roy Orbison released his hit song “Pretty Woman”.

Your Pop Quiz challenge this time around is to create an image of a pretty woman…walking down the street…in 1964.

There is no prize. There is no poll. The winner is chosen by me.

You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

Character Of The Week: Vampyrist- The Orion

You know, I say time and time again that I can never tell exactly how much work Vampyrist puts into his shading because it all just looks so natural and seamless. Well this one is much the same, mostly helped by the fact that a huge chunk of the shading here is so stunning you aren’t paying much attention to the rest. Vampyrist is a master of glow effects and in terms of energy effects I’d say he’s probably the best there is. Just look at the fore-arms here and tell me I’m wrong. And there’s excellent use of items, male-alternate arms used to create a rougher skin texture really adds to the character. So, yeah, pretty impressed by this one.
