Pop Quiz – Trick or Treat

The focus of this week’s pop quiz is creativity. To demonstrate this you will create an elaborate and terrifying Halloween mask using the template in the photo below.

Capture

You will enlarge it to 600 % for this challenge. Be aware that you may have to use a snipping tool to save it, as enlarged items occasionally shift out of frame when exported conventionally.

There is no prize. There is no poll. The winner is chosen by me.

So get creepy, get freaky, and get spooky! You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

All entries must be in JPG or PNG formĀ (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (likeĀ the HeroMachine forums,ImageShack,Ā PhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension]Ā before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his ā€œBayou Belleā€ character image asĀ DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link goĀ directly to the image(likeĀ this) andĀ not to a hosting jump pageĀ (likeĀ this).Ā See this post on how to get the direct link for most sites.

This contest will close at 9pm Eastern on Sunday, November 1st.

Pop Quiz Winner!

Well. well. well! Some of you guys really upped your game this week! Nicely done.

First up dreadyacht, who delivered a nice shield design, but a cropped sword. I don't see the visual connection between the two pieces, but well done.

A stunning entry by Lef: great shading and design details. Beautiful.

Melmo missed the deadline by minutes, but I had to include it. Well thought out design. Details are simple, believable and effective.

Keric's entry has a vaguely tribal feel which is very cool.

Hawk brought the pain this week with a stunning entry.

Fantasyman created sword and shield with a great mystical feel. The blue aura is awesome!

FantasyMan-Dragon Weapons

And demigod created a classic form with some beautiful design details.

Pop Quiz – The Devil Is In The Details

71AnVhExBVL._SL1200_

The focus of this week’s pop quiz is detail: pure and un-simple. To demonstrate this you will create an elaborate sword and shield combo that only the most powerful and esteemed warrior would carry into battle. I don’t want the warrior, his/her armour or helmet, just the sword and shield.

There is no prize. There is no poll. The winner is chosen by me.

So get ready to mask, shade and highlight your heart out! You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

All entries must be in JPG or PNG formĀ (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (likeĀ the HeroMachine forums,ImageShack,Ā PhotoBucket, or whatever);

Pop Quiz – Results!

There were five awesome, and very moody, entries this week.

Unfortunately, for some bizarre reason I cannot get them to appear in this post. Not sure why...probably gremlins...anyway, you can check them out for yourself if you are so inclined.

So to cut a long story short, this week's winner is ...Cliff! While it may have been a character we have seen from Cliff before, this was a brand new take on him. and an impressive one at that.

Please join me in congratulating Cliff. Your villain prize will be posted when I think of and render an adversary worthy of London Fog.

There will be no PQ this weekend as it is Canadian Thanksgiving and I will be in a turkey coma.

See you in two!

"Bane was meant to look like a cross between a dictator and a revolutionary, I designed the coat myself -- it took a year. We took inspiration from a Swedish army jacket and a French Revolution frock coat and amalgamated the two. It was a pain to have made, because in LA shearling is not their sort of thing: there weren't the tailors who could work with the fabric."

"You say, 'What's the rationale for him being able to dress like this?' That's when I started looking at the pop world and I ended up looking at the Sex Pistols and Johnny Rotten," says Hemming. "I was just thinking, 'Well, there are plenty of guys out there who actually are as extreme as this, and there's nothing wrong with doing it.' You've got to make it look like someone really dresses like this. It can't just be, 'Hello, I'm putting on my costume.' It's got to be wherever he lives and whatever he's been doing, he's been wearing that."
