Pop Quiz Monster!

Updated: Due to the site being down for much of the day, this Pop Quiz deadline is moved to tomorrow.

I haven't done one of these in forever, but I'm sick of Open Critique Day and I want to see more of what you all can do. So here's your one-day Pop Quiz challenge:

Make a cool monster.

You only get one entry -- that's right, just one! So make it your best. No backgrounds or elaborate scenes, just an illustration of a monster like you'd find in "Fiend Folio" or the classic "Monster Manual". I'll also need a description and name for the beastie though that shouldn't be in the image itself.

Most of the other rules are the same as for a regular contest, but instead of a whole week I'll announce the winner either tonight or first thing in the morning.

  • All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the UGO Forums, whatever);
  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension]. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his "Bayou Belle" character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). If you see "preview" or "rotate" somewhere in the link you're probably doing it wrong.

Good luck!

This one time at band camp …

You know what's better than one zombie? SIX zombies!

Like their living brethren, apparently stuffed bunnies have very powerful legs perfectly evolved for running. Because at the first opportunity after discovering we were on a date with a zombie, we ran away. With a chance at heroic redemption upon hitting the street we ... chose to run away again. It's good being stuffed!

Not the Celica! Anything but the Celica!

What'll it be, folks? We are a bunny, after all, so you'd think we have a decent chance of bobbing and weaving our way into the car. On the other hand, I bet our fur stains easily, either from zombie drool or crapping ourselves in terror.

A nice RPG group shot

Felipe S. Card frequently shares his HeroMachine work with us in our weekly contests, and I'm always impressed with his illustrations. He sent me this message:

I would like to share with you some creations that i make for roleplay sessions with my friends. The image below represents a group of adventurers, including: Cleric (Leader of group), Sorcerer, two amazons, Paladin, Thief and a Ranger.

I am a really big fan of fantasy genre, and HeroMachine provides the definately tool to make my characters.

He did a great job with the black and white sketch and I am delighted to share it with you:

Thanks Felipe!

Have you no shame, sir?

Did you know that Rob Liefeld took a crack at redesigning the costume for Captain America rip-off "The Fighting American"? And it's so blatant and awful, I thought it was Cap when I wrote this article? Well, it's true. You might want to put on some sunglasses with anti-Suck-Glare coating before looking at this, I warn you:

Ninjas vs. Vampires. Need I say more?

Somehow my cinematic radar completely failed to register this film, which I feel certain is destined to be a classic:

Finally a movie that gets at some of the hard questions in life! If George Clooney had turned into either a ninja or a vampire in "Descendants" I could see how he'd be nominated for an Academy Award. After all, if movies can't make us think, then what good are they?

Which is where you come in to help solve this epic dilemma that has stumped philosophers throughout the ages. Which is it, and why?

No, not that! Anything but THAT!
