Succubus HM3

Winners for Kaldath's Caption Contest #20

Kaldath's had some pressing real-life stuff come up at the last minute and so I'm pinch-hitting for him as a guest judge on his last caption contest. The entries were a real hoot, thanks to everyone who chimed in!

He asked you to come up with the best replacement dialogue for this panel, and to make it even tougher all entries had to be in rhyme (to honor the demon Etrigan, who only speaks thus).

etrigankissesbats

The entries were fantastic, as I said, but my favorite three were:

  • D: Ah. Now we’re alone, in a meadow redolent of heather. I do love it when you use Imperial Leather.
  • DiCicatriz: Only for this Batty man, doth rise the demon Etrigan.
  • Calvary_Red: I must confess, in Hell down under,
I like to dress as your Boy Wonder.

And from that list, I declare the winner to be ... Calvary Red! Congratulations and many thanks to all who entered!

Caption Contest Results to be posted later!

I am sorry that I haven't gotten the caption contest results posted up yet, there have been a few personal issues that have cropped up lately in my life that are distracting me a little bit and I totally forgot about the contest last night. I will Look over the entries here in a little bit and post the result sometime this evening!

Just A Thought: The Difference That Defines Us And The Love That Connects Us

Now, today I want to talk about something that has always been something that I’ve held dear to my heart, but has really been brought into stark focus recently, and since I’ve got a soapbox, I’m going to use it.

Now I don’t know how many of you have heard the news about a young kid called Michael Morones recently, who is currently fighting for his life after attempting suicide because he was bullied for liking the TV show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Now I have to say that I am appalled by this, both as a Brony (and willing to admit it out loud, in front of a load of strangers that I only know through the internet) and as a human being. Michael was only 11 years old and to feel that your life is no longer worth living at such a young age is just beyond words. I don’t know what kind of bullying he went through, how bad it was (though I’d have to assume it was pretty bad) or for how long it had been going on for, all I know is Michael’s age, that he had ADHD and that he like the show because he identified with one of the main characters due to her ADHD like behavior. But still, the fact that he felt forced into such drastic action just because he was different is tragic. And that brings me onto the point of today’s missive.

Difference is not something that should be shut out, forced into a corner or laughed at. Difference is something that should be embraced, celebrated. We are all different in our own way and the more we recognize that, the more we grow as people. Hell, I’m a guy who loves children’s cartoons, still collects toy cars, watches sci-fi, reads comics, but I often feel I was born the wrong gender and I’ve always and will always support anyone who feels shut out because they are different and I have been bullied because of it. There were times when I seriously considered suicide, but I didn’t because I knew that it didn’t matter what the bullies and the judgmental thought, it’s what you think that really matters. If YOUR differences make YOU happy, then why should you bend over backwards to please the world, because trust me, you cannot please everyone. And that’s why this story gets to me so much.

We in this community are made up of self-professed geeks, nerds and weirdoes, who have been drawn to this site to unleash our creativity into a variety of geeky worlds, be it superhero, sci-fi or fantasy, all genres which have had their fair share of ridicule from “normal” people (and I say normal in the loosest possible way, because, as stated before, we are all different so there is no such thing as normal). Hell, I’m sure that I’m not the only one who has gone through bullying for being different, but we’re all still here and that is what matters.

So please, if you do nothing else today, give a thought for Michael Morones and don’t looks down on anyone because they are different, embrace that difference, because remember, you’re different too.

Get well soon Michael.

Power User Profiles: Iscarioto

Once again, I'm going to be bringing back the Power User Profiles for a one off special, because the opportunity came up this week to cover one of my favourite creators of all time. His work is so instantly recognisable and incredibly well constructed, each and every piece is jaw dropping. Iscarioto asked me to pick my favourite picture to put up with his profile alongside his choice and, going through his gallery before posting this, I found it nearly impossible to decide, which is unusual because everyone has at least one or two works that stand out even if you're someone like headlessgeneral or AMS. And that's not to mention how fun it was working with him on the Ascension community project on the forums. So, with that all said, please everyone give a big hand to our newest Power User: Iscarioto.

Jackrabbit: Thumbnails

Now that author Ian Thomas Healy and I have agreed on the costume design for the characters to be featured on the cover of his upcoming super-hero novel "Jackrabbit", the next step is to decide on a general layout/design. To do that, the designer (that's me!) will rapidly sketch out a number of rough, small drawings to convey the overall concept. These are called thumbnails and the idea is to generate lots of ideas in a hurry. It's not unusual to do dozens of these, but in the interest of time I'm only posting a few.

Character Design Contest ♯59- Chinese New Year

hm3-beta

Ok, so we're going to take a break from the "Old School" challenges this week, as it was recently Chinese New Year and, whilst there have been contests based around the signs of the western zodiac on the blog before, we've never had one based around the Chinese Zodiac. So that is your challenge this week, make a hero or villain based on one of the twelve Zodiac animals shown above (that is; Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig). It'll be interesting to see what you come up with here. One proviso, a rule specific for this week, you must use the zodiac insignias shown in the picture above. These can be found on the last two pages of Insignias- Nature.

This week there will be a limit on entries, each person can only enter once per Zodiac Sign, so that is only 12 entries per person, but since no-one ever enters that many times, I don't suppose it really matters. As usual, the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). The winner gets to claim a custom made item from dblade to be put into heromachine, so long as the item conforms to his prize rules, which you can find here: http://www.heromachine.com/forum/the-heromachine-art-gallery/dblades-whiz-bang-item-dispenser/. Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

HM3: Collars and Kimonos

NewItems_020214

A few new items from the Whiz Bang Factory.

The high collar pieces were requested by headlessgeneral for his Character Design Challenge #55 (Speedster) win.  I threw in the last piece for fun. These can be found in the Neckwear/Standard set.

The women's shoes were requested by ams for another prize whose origin is lost in the mists of time. These can be found in FootRight/Female.

The traditional kimono pieces were inspired by a thread created by Kaylin88100. I placed all of the pieces in Tops/FemaleDresses.

The two tops are some old pieces that can be found in Tops/MaleSpandex.
