CDC #425 – Team Building – Volume 2 – Part 13

The premise of this contest is that over the next number of weeks we will build a team of superheroes and a team of villains. Each week I will supply you with a role, name, or list of powers of one of the team members and you will use HM3 to create the character. The winner each week will win a version of their character created on HM by yours truly.

Your challenge this week is to design the hero team’s brother and sister duo – Beacon and Flare. You will also flesh out their individual light based powers.

Beacon:

Real Name: Bryden Rutherford

Age:24

Hometown: Toronto Ontario

Powers: flight

Flare:

Real Name: Jayme Rutherford

Age:24 (Bryden’s twin)

Hometown: Toronto Ontario

Powers: flight

Personality traits: Bryden is the less aggressive of the two. Jayme is quick to react sometimes to both her and the team’s detriment.

Please enter the characters separately as there will be two winners announced; one for Beacon and one for Flare.

Please follow the instructions below regarding the naming of entries.

The List: Top 10 Greatest Marvel Superheroes

So, in our last poll we posited the question "who is Marvel's Greatest Superhero". Now this is an interesting question because, unlike their Distinguished Competition (to borrow a phrase from the late great Stan Lee), Marvel don't really have a "fixed pantheon" of superheroes. This is possibly down to their main super-team. Unlike the Justice League, the Avengers doesn't really have a "classic" line-up and hasn't ever really been the be all, end all of the Marvel Universe because, at various times, they've been overshadowed by other Marvel characters who weren't part of the Avengers (X-Men being a good example of this). With DC, all of their big hitters (both in universe and IRL) were in the Justice League and no other super team really came close, whereas Marvel had all of their in universe big hitters in the Avengers but none of their IRL biggest and most culturally significant characters were until around 2005 (40 odd years after the team first started). Obviously that has changed now, but having such a long period of fluidity has led to a very interesting result of our poll. So, I think I've rambled enough up here, let's actually jump into the list shall we:

Honorable Mentions: Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), Black Panther (T'Challa), The Hulk (Bruce Banner)

CDC #422 – Team Building – Volume 2 – Part 10 – Results

Honourable mention goes out to last week's winner NerdandProud for this great version of Mirrors.

And while my original plan was to have two different winners for this contest, one entrant nailed both characters beautifully. So this week's winner for both Smoke and Mirrors is...

Poll Position: Marvel’s Greatest Superhero

So, we're going to do a big poll this time out. For our next list, I want you guys to decide who Marvel Comics Greatest Superhero is. You can take into account anything and everything; the comics, the films, tv shows, their place in pop culture history, the characters longevity, all of that jazz.

As per usual, you are allowed to add your own answers, one per day. If you are going to add a character though, can you also include their civilian identity, it helps if there has been more than one person using the name (e.g. Ant-Man: Hank Pym/ Scott Lang/ Eric Grady). I've given you a list of 10 to start off with, you can vote for 10 a day and the poll closes a week on Friday (Fri 27th).

[crowdsignal poll=10363283]

Also, I feel I should explain why I've left Hulk off this list. For most of his existance, Hulk, whilst being a hero nominally, has been mostly considered a hyper destructive loose-cannon, someone who is just as (if not more) likely to destroy an entire city as he is to save it. As a pop cultural icon, Hulk is obviously one of Marvel's greaest creations, but I don't know if I'd count him as one of their greatest "heroes". I dunno, I'll leave that one up to you guys to decide. It's kinda like Punisher. If he wasn't focusing on the bad guys, dude's just a straight up supervillain.

Anyway, JR out.
