Character Of The Week: Linea24- Twilight Sky
COTW is back for the new year and we're going to kick it off in style with this wonderful piece of landscape work by Linea.
I'm a sucker for a good picture that dispenses with a character and instead just focuses solely on the background, and that is just what this is. Of course, the sunset dominates the picture, the almost golden, orange glow being the central focus here, giving the picture a gorgeous warm feel. This warmth is amplified by the rest of the colours in the far back areas of the image, deep blues, greens, oranges and purples making for a rich and inviting background scenery, without a cold colour in sight.
Then we come to the foreground. With its dull greys and muted browns, it is a perfect contrast to the warm and vibrant background, but even here Linea has managed to add a bit of warmth, with the reflection of the sunset on the rocks and trees. Of course, I've mentioned before in COTW's past how I love Linea's shading style. In some cases, such as this one, it almost looks like the shadows were done using charcoals (best example would be the two dark branches on the right hand side of the picture). This gives the shading such brilliant depth, and really sets off the rest of the picture.

Open Critque Day #8
And Open Critique Day is back, guys! Hope you all had some really happy and enjoyable holidays!
As for how this goes, you post a work of yours, finished or WIP (aka work in process, for those who are new to abbreviations), and then others give you critiques on your work. I do not mind if you post the occasional non-HM picture or piece of writing, but keep in mind that, though there are some, not all of us here are writers or do art outside of HeroMachine. All I ask is that you only post pictures that are your own design and not any that copyrighted or based off of copyrighted characters. As for pieces of writing, I’m not sure about whether fan fiction is allowed, but for right now, just in case, don’t post fan fiction either.
Also, again, if you post a work, it is highly recommended that you also give someone else a critique.

Anime Talk: Scarlet Johansson is the Major!
At the time of this writting I have just learned the The Manga and Anime Cyberpunkish hit "Ghost In The Shell" is being adapted into a Live Action Movie, and that Scarlet Johansson has been cast in the lead role as the Major Motoko Kusanagi (Though weather they will keep the name the same is doubtful). That's right Johansson is going from protraying Avenger Black Widow, to playing the role of a Japanese Secret Police Agency Cyborg Soldier.
The Movie which has been written by Bill Wheeler, and directed by Rupert Sanders, will be produced by Dreamworks Studios. Ghost in the Shell has been one of those projects that have been pitched for a long time, but with the signing of Johansson to star in it seem to finally gotten some legs beneath it and a green light to be made.
Now back in September of 2013 I did a mini review of the Anime Series "Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex" which you can read HERE if you are unfamiliar with the Ghost in the shell which is one of my favorite Sci-Fi animes. As I said I really like the original Ghost in the Shell Movie, and the Stand Alone Complex Series that followed however I not sure I have high hopes for this movie.
Anime Themed live action movies made here in the States have a history of being crap fests in my opinions ( Dragon ball, and Avatar The Last Airbender come to mind). So I would like to ask all you fine anime fans out there. Are you looking forward to this movie ? If so do you think it will be able to do the source material, the Manga, and Anime Justice ?

Character Design Contest ♯103- Party Time
IT"S BACK!
So, New Year, New CDC's and lets kick it off with a bang. This week I'm just going to give you one word and you are free to do what you want with it as a theme. And that word is: Party. I don't care what sort of party, Birthday, New Years, Wedding, Soiree or Raiding party, just so long as it is some variation on the theme. Now, go for it.
As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.
Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post pictures and images that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.
