OCD (Open Critique Day) #33

Well, I'm back and fully recovered from my surgery! Thanks for all the well-wishes! Sorry this is late, though; I slept in too late.

How this goes:Ā Ā You post a work of yours, finished or WIP, and then others give you critiques on your work. I do not mind if you post non-HM pictures or piece of writing. Just make sureĀ that you only post pictures that are your own design and not any that are copyrighted or based off of copyrighted characters.Ā

Also, if you post a work, it is highly recommended that you also give someone else a critique.

Even this is called Open Critique Day, I allow (even welcome!) for you guys to post and discuss on this for the weekend until 11:59 pm Sunday.

Character Of The Week: Stulte- The Floating Archipelago & Honu Po O Kea

There are some members of this community that only seem to have one setting, that setting being "wow". We all know that Stulte is an absolute master at world building and fantasy-realism design work and that is plain to see in the second of our two featured pictures today. But the first one. The first one. Just… The colours, the shading, the use of items, the atmosphere, just… wow is the only word I have right now. As for the second picture. Well the shading is something else. My only gripe is, how is something that big floating like that? It does not compute.

Kaldath’s Caption Contest 73: Results

Greetings Fellow Machiners, It is time for the results of our bi-weekly caption contest. This week due both to a low turn out for the contest itself and me losing track of the day of the week and posting this late I will only be giving you the winner of theĀ  contest in a short post, instead of a top five style I normally provide. That being said your winner this week is .........................

Character Design Contest ♯141- Fire

Ok guys, for this weeks contest we're going to be starting on the theme of the Four Classical Elements. And we're kicking off with fire. So, the idea is simple, you create either a fire themed character or a fire themed image (e.g. a burning building or a campfire). Simple enough right?

As per usual, no limits on entries and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

JReviews: Doctor Who Series 9 Episode 2- The Witch’s Familiar

Hello, hey, yeah, sorry, shoulda had this up yesterday and all that, but sorta got side tracked by a little thing called The Rugby World Cup (I'm English and it was the England Wales game, kinda a big thing you know). Anyway, that's all done with, got a review, here it is.

Character Design Contest ♯140 (Getting Emotional) Poll

[polldaddy poll="9097780"]

I will say one thing. You lot have some repressed emotional trauma or something. Only two people entered something that could be considered positive emotions, and even then they are both traits usually found in psychopaths. So, if you would please take a seat on that red couch over there and we can discuss it. Now, could you tell me about your relationship with your father...

Character Design Contest ♯139 (Colourful) Winner

Interesting result this week. Our winner was actually the one entrant I was unsure about putting on the poll and not only did they win, they dominated the poll. And it was their first entry into a contest if I'm correct. So congratulations toĀ Tracy111 whoseĀ Blue BellĀ owned this weeks poll. Well done Tracy and to everyone else who entered.

Pop Quiz – Music, Music, Music!

edisonphonograph

On September 26, 1908, "The Saturday Evening Post" ran the first ad for the Edison Phonograph.

Your challenge this week is to come up with a machine, instrument, or character/creature that creates music.

There is no prize. There is no poll. The winner is chosen by me.

You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

All entries must be in JPG or PNG formĀ (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (likeĀ the HeroMachine forums,ImageShack,Ā PhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension]Ā before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his ā€œBayou Belleā€ character image asĀ DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link goĀ directly to the image(likeĀ this) andĀ not to a hosting jump pageĀ (likeĀ this).Ā See this post on how to get the direct link for most sites.

This contest will close at 9pm Eastern on Sunday, September 27th.
