So as of today, I am taking the joy back… this thread is now all about creativity.

^Like. So many things I’ve tried on the Internet, from RPG Maker XP through Minecraft, have been spoilt because I’ve turned them into something like obsessions, rather than what they are, which is avenues for creativity. I lost the thing that grabbed my attention in the first place, the, as you said, joy of creating something unique and brilliant.

Obviously it’s a shame you won’t be posting as much, as even in my short time here I’ve seen how good your work is, but I completely get it. Reclaim the joy of creating stuff! Nice one mate. :D

You know what? I’m going to take a guess that sucyyuan may not be for real. Just something about him… Can’t put my finger on it.

And as for a film with a tyrannosaurus living in some swamp in the Deep South…? YES.

You might consider submitting the pose to custom archive. Well done. I’m fairly sure I looked approximately that way when I read that the blog would change.

Yeah, good shout. It’ll have to be later (still need to upload the text file of the face for weilyn as well), but it’ll get done. Going to have to take a break from making drawings for a few days (despite not having made that many yet), as otherwise I’ll fail my exams. :P

I’ve got a couple from the week or so I spent with the program in the summer, so I’ll post them to show you what the characters (Esme, James and Ben) looked like then!

Loving the subtlety in the name, there… :P but nah, very cool, a sun and moon theme, right?

Hmmm… Rohit is cool, but I’m leaning more towards Sanjay. Apparently it means conquering/triumphant, which is suitably ironic for the character, but also according to wikiname, “The first reference to the name was in the ancient Sanskrit epic, Mahabharata… It is said that Sanjay was insightful and had the ability to see into the future.” Often helped the king win battles. VERY appropriate!!

As for the comments, thank you very much! Initially I thought maybe the biceps were too big, or the forearms too long or something (couldn’t quite put my finger on it, just looks slightly out of scale), but despite that I am warming to it. Which is nice. :) JR19759’s comment made me laugh though… Perhaps a slight overreaction!! :P

Next one… Not got a name for him yet, but he’s apparently precognitive. Quiet and withdrawn, he spends long hours just sitting vacant, save for the times he can be heard screaming, wrestling with… what? The future? Himself? Or something altogether more sinister…

Tried to experiment with the pose with this one, and it didn’t go quite as well as I’d hoped. Nevertheless, I spent far too long on it not to upload it, so here we go. Also, didn’t put eyebrows on again. Sort of forgot, but also it’s hard to get them to look right! http://www.heromachine.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Also, any suggestions for names would be great. He’s from Pakistan, in honour of a friend who’s jetting off back there as we speak, so indian/pakistani names would be great. :)

cheers man, i’m certainly liking the new inventive stuff you’re showing us now in your forum Smile

Lol, slight exaggeration perhaps(!) but glad you’re enjoying it nonetheless. I’ll definitely try out creating that ‘lots going on’ effect which works so well with the dreamer. I’ve got a character who it could work with…

The Christmas ones are really cool, and I love Tarres. He reminds me of a beaver, with that mask! Nice use of different items, like the belts to build up the chestplate. :) and I love anything vaguely zombie apolocypseish, so I’m loving the last two. :)

Awesome!! There’s so much going on with the Dreamer! Like, so many different parts to the drawing. The blood on the cape is a nice touch. Also loving daisy, particularly her expression. She looks melancholy, but what about? The lack of peace in the world? Anyway, good job!

…what… is it? :P seriously, though, loving 8 ball oracle, Arachna, Overcharge… Not just cool drawings, but really cool back stories and powers too. Particularly like the idea of the mark consuming overcharge. :)

Quite the debate! I would have to say I’m on the side of pure Heromachine for these forums. There are plenty of other sites that you can post your “helped” pics like deviantart. I like the challenge of looking at people’s pics and trying to figure out how they achieved the results that they got. But that doesn’t mean I’m not interested in seeing what can be done with assistance. Soupster, you should post a pure Heromachine image against an assisted one to show us what you are talking about.

Glad to start something up! To be honest, I’m more on the side of pure HeroMachine as well, like you said. If I was going to use them for, say, battlers in a game, I may touch the drawings up, but it’s all part of the challenge to just use HeroMachine. Good idea about the comparison too. I’ll probably do that some time next week, got an exam a week tomorrow that I’m going to need to revise A LOT for!

Join the club man. I takes me ages to do my stuff. I remember talking to another machinist who said that he often takes a few hours getting everything right, then leaves it over night and coming back to it to check everything before finishing it off.

That… Is a very good idea. Splitting it over a couple of days would definitely stop me… I don’t want to say wasting time, but being less productive with revision than I could be with an exam in a week!! That being said, if I start something, I want to get it finished! Stopping takes a lot of willpower!

It is mainly due to the fact that the program is called HEROMACHINE,and the forum is for people who use this program and only this program to show others what is possible in using it.

Good point, I hadn’t really thought of that. When I first looked at the forums I was blown away by some of the galleries, but it would have been a bit rubbish if I’d found out you needed an extra program to do them with.

Also, the more drawings I do, the more I find the constraints (by which I mean limited number of items, patterns, etc.) actually make it quite fun. To have to find work arounds, combine items to make better things, develop brilliant techniques (like you said), the constraints actually encourage creativity, and you end up coming up with stuff you never would have done before. I mean, I saw a picture recently where griffin’s feet had been masked to make like werewolf paws or something. VERY cool. :)

My only niggle is that she has no eyebrows.

Ah man, of course! I’ll put them in some other time. Thanks for pointing it out!

The downside of getting to grips with all this is, now I know what can be done with HeroMachine I’m never going to be able to quickly knock out a drawing again… That’s perfectionism for you. *sigh*

good start man…already posing well and bringing attitude to the illustrations. Welcome aboard.

    Thanks mate, appreciated.

So… the next in the installment. Esmé Rosetta, a femme-fatale sort-of-villain-but-more-opportunist-criminal-who-teams-up-with-the-main-cast-against-a-common-foe-and-meets-her-untimely-end with the power of pheremone manipulation and retractable ‘thorns’ from her fingertips. Each thorn has a different poison on, and they all do different things.

This one took *ages*. I’m happy with it though. I think I may have made the outfit a *little* bit too revealing (modesty in clothing is a good thing!), but I wanted the whole pheremone-manipulation-seduce-you-and-then-steal-averything-in-your-bank to be obvious. There’s my excuse. Also, the whole shifting it over bug happened again, but this time it rotated it back to the defaults, hence why she looks like she’s going to fall over!
