Friday Night Fights: Qualifying Round- Modern

Hey guys, JR here.

As we got exactly 8 entries, I decided to add an entry of my own so we can do a qualifying round, because it’d suck if everyone did four entries and only three ended up being used.

So, the way this works: all of the first round entries are in a single poll. You can vote for your four favourites each day. The poll will close next Thursday and then the person with the least votes will be eliminated. The remaining eight move on to the next round.

Top 5 Stupidest Superhero Origins

Every good superhero needs a good origin story. Batman’s parents where killed in front of him, so he decides to fight crime in his city. Captain America isn’t able to join the US military to fight in WW2 so volunteers for an experiment to turn him into a super-soldier and goes on to fight for truth, justice and the American way. And Thor fights crime because…

Well you can’t have them all.

But some superhero origins just can’t avoid being bad. The original Flash gets his powers by inhaling “hard water vapours” (isn’t hard water basically ice?) and the original Human Torch is actually a robot (negating the Human part of his name). And the less said about how half of the Fantastic Four shouldn’t have actually been anywhere near that spaceship (one being unqualified and the other still being in college) the better. But there are some that are just plain terrible. And here’s 5 of them.

Character Design Challenge #172- Fairy Tales

Ok guys, for this weeks challenge I want you to redesign a character from a Fairy Tale. Now, if you aren’t sure if a certain story counts as a fairy tale, there is a list here which you can use for reference- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fairy_tales, however please avoid any stories that are listed here as having a publication date of 1945 or later (because these may still be in copyright even if the tales themselves are older. But really, I’m sure you all know what count as fairy tales, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, The Pied Piper Of Hamlin, all that sort of stuff.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

jimmy_pod_500_nano_cellular_repair_vehicle_by_hermansmellville-da48kml  HermanSmellville’s  repair vehicle is joyous in it’s silliness, and just makes me smile.

Vampyrist-DemonPriest And Vampyrist was very creative in his use of items, and coloration. The helmet is outstanding, Great to see you back Pop Quizzing!

Pop Quiz – Triple Play!

Your Pop Quiz challenge is wide open subject wise, but there is a catch; you MUST use the three items pictured above as part of your creation, they must be clearly visible as part of your creation, and they must NOT be used for their intended purpose. I guess that’s three catches

You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

The winning entry will receive a design of a companion piece for your creation by yours truly. Not a remarkable prize, but better than a kick in the arse with a frozen boot.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShack, PhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Friday Night Fights Reminder

Just a quick reminder for everyone that you now have 1 Week left to submit your entries for this years FNF contest. The closing date for entries is the 1st of June 2016. You can find the rules and entry requirements, as well as the categories for each round here.

Also, just out of interest, can you comment down below if you are currently working on your entries or are planning to enter. I haven’t got many entries so far and it’d be nice to know if I should be expecting any.
