Cheers pals! Now, before I take off to create international heroes I wanna give you a quick review over the last 50+2 with this little groupshot with the heroes arranged according to the location of their states of origin on the map:

Anyway, I’m having fun with alternate realities, so lets go find another one.[/img]

Nice Elseworlds – I always dig the ol’ “what if” game! I noticed earlier that you have a lot of great ideas that provide material for an even greater amount of excellent stories. If I were a rich guy I would hire you as my Stan Lee… http://www.heromachine.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Your alternate realties would also be the perfect locations for my team “Vanguard” (not shown yet) – a group of superpowered adventurers exploring parallel dimensions and alternate realities via “Blackgates” at the behest of the U.S. government agency S.H.A.R.D. (Surveillance Headquarters for Alternate Realities & Dimensions).

I don’t think I’ll be doing a what if for Germany winning WWII

Hmm, and how about a “What if Claus von Stauffenberg succeeded in his 20 July plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler and remove the Nazi Party from power in 1944”?

    Or even better:

“What if Hitler didn’t left the Bürgerbräukeller in Munich early on November 8, 1939 and died at the hands of Georg Elser and his bomb attack.”

That last one would be most interesting, since the Nazi Party probably wouldn’t have been such a succes without Hitler and many atrocious war crimes that were his idea (like the holocaust) hence never had happened. Or in a nutshell: How would the world look today without WWII?! Maybe more overpopulation (millions of people wouldn’t have died and reproduced), many inventions wouldn’t have been made (or at least not so early in history) and so on …

Just throwing around some ideas… http://www.heromachine.com/wp-content/legacy/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif

Also a very cool idea! Love it…

So here’s the rest of the bunch …

From Baltimore, Maryland – The MONUMENTal State:
Monument is capable of growing to a maximum of twohundred (200) feet high trough rapid acquisition of bodily mass from an yet unknown source, whereby the extra mass fortifies all of his cellular tissue, including his bones and muscles, enabling him to support his increased weight, and giving him superhuman strength. In the picture he limited his growth to “just” sixty (60) feet which he preferes since growing to more gigantic sizes is both physically and mental very demanding, but a natural neurological reflex prevents him from growing beyond the limits of his body endurance anyway.

    Moumental-Maryland_hs.png

From New York, New York – The MELTing Pot:
Melt(er) can increase the temperature of either his entire body or just any part of it at will and is able to generate intense levels of heat, up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. In this temporarily state he can melt most conventional materials, including stone and some types of metals, and cause severe burns with a single touch.
    MeltingPot-NewYork_pv.png
    MeltingPot-NewYork_hs.png

From Portland, Oregon – The HARDCASE State:
The former Marine was a victim of a bomb explosion on his third tour in Afghanistan in which he lost both arms and legs and great parts of his body were severely damaged. Dependent on a life support system and already a bit suicidal he agreed to an experimental medical procedure, in which large parts of his damaged body were replaced with cybernetic prosthetics and bionic transplants. Although it is difficult even for him to say where the man ends and the machine begins, he has drawn new hope and uses his new won powers for the good of his fellow men. As a cyborg his robotic bodyparts are mainly composed of nanites, allowing him to transform or expend his limbs, adapt technology and weapons appropriate for the present situation or opponent, and control machines as well as computers.
    HardCase-Oregon_pv.png
    HardCase-Oregon_hs.png

From Burlington, Vermont – The State with the motto FREEDOM & UNITY:
These two heroes are identical twins with the ability to merge both their bodies into one single large creature that combines and multiplies their individual powers. Freedom possesses increaded speed, strength and invulnerability whereas Unity has vast telepathic and telekinetic abilities.
    FreedomUnity-Vermont_pv.png
    FreedomUnity-Vermont_hs.png
Normally the transformation goes quick and easy, but sometimes it can be corrupted through outside forces like energy attacks. If that happens they can get stuck “inbetween” for days or even weeks…
    FreedomUnity-Vermont_tf.png

From Milwaukee, Wisconsin – The BADGER State:
Badgers senses of sight, smell and hearing are superhumanly acute and comparable to those possessed by certain animals. He can see things at very great distances and with perfect clarity even in near-total darkness and his sense of hearing is similarly enhanced, allowing him to hear sounds that ordinary humans can’t. He can use his highly developed sense of smell to track or recognize someone by their scent, even if it has been covered up or eroded over time. Also his agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete and each of his fingers are tipped with retractable claws that are razor sharp and capable of rending substances as durable as flesh, bone, wood, stone, and even some types of metals.

    Badger-Wisconsin_hs.png

    … and 2 bonus characters:

From Washington, DC – The District also known as DMV:
When the owner of a small business in Washington committed suicide after being driven to ruin through the dark machinations of politicians and lobbyists, his son vow revenge and became a dark merciless vigilante who not just fights the crime on the streets, but also hunts down everyone who abuses his power or tramples on the rights of the litte guy on Main Street. Described as a “disillusioned merciless vigilante” by a journalist he adopted that name willingly in its abbreviation “DMV” which also stands for his area of operation: DC, Maryland, Virginia…
    DMV-WashingtonDC_pv.png
    DMV-WashingtonDC_hs.png

From Salinas, Puerto Rico – The SHINING STAR of the Caribbean:
He possesses the ability to bodily generate thermo-chemical energy and release it from almost any part of his body to a wide variety of effects such as for flight at great heights and speeds by directing it as a downward thrust or shooting plasma in the form of blasts that causes objects to shatter, explode, or seemingly disintegrate. He can also manifest his energy as an impenetrable and virtually indestructible personal shield, which absorbs outside kinetic impact into his own energy supply and then can be re-channeled to increase the bludgeoning power of his blows or to create explosive shock waves upon impact.

Does he need alien blood or human?

He can feed on either one, but he prefers alien blood.

But if he is an alien to us humans, wouldn’t we humans be aliens to him?! So if he prefers alien blood doesn’t that mean he prefers in fact human blood? And most important: have I confused you enough now? ;)

A part that I left out of his background is that since the forest is shared with Germany, he terrorized German hikers and campers in the forest due to him blaming Germans for his injury and

I guess it depends on his base of operations. If he operates in Germany it makes (a little) sense – otherwise not really, since not every polish speaks german like not every american speaks spanish. That part of the forest is called “Ueckermünder Heide” by the way … ;)

that is what the Germans called him.

The problem with “Teufling” is that it sounds exactly like the real existing word “Täufling” which means “baptizand” – so prettty much the exact oppsite of your intention wherefor no real German would call him that. I guess they would simply call him “ein Teufel” (the word can also be used in a more general sense for anything diabolic appearing) or maybe “Dämon” (demon).

But of course you can name your characters however you want… ;)

Teufel is German for devil and is the basis for Tiefling in DnD so I chose Teufling which is a made up word. I speak no German but it fit the concept.

I live in Germany for 31 years now and grew up quadrilingual (luxembourgian, german, french and english). I still wonder sometimes how “hard” and thus somewhat inflexible the german language is and find it hard to make up convincing sounding new words.

I just got tired of writing the background story and it always sounds much better in my head than on paper.

I really didn’t want to patronize you and I apologize if I seem like a smartass.

But even if I’m not a native speaker I always had a slight problem with the way how ignorant some Americans treats the german language – worst examples are Marvels “Nightcrawler” (a supposed bavarian – guess where I live) and when Kiefer Sutherland aka Jack Bauer masqueraded as a german arms dealer in the last season of “24”.

That last one really was a nightmare since there was in fact a german actor on the set with Jürgen Prochnow (he played a russian mobster of course) who could have corrected the german dialog with ease. But why bother? I know it’s not the end of the world, but it’s a little annoying if it happens over and over again.

Stanilus Dyminski was a Polish footballer playing for Legia Warsaw in the Ekstraklasa.

    (Teufel is devil in German)

Very nice background stories. Hope you don’t mind me criticizing two things here.

1.) Why has a polish hero a german sounding alias? Germany and Poland are two very different countries. So that doesn’t make very much sense in my eyes.

2.) You say that Teufel is the german word for Devil and that’s right, but the word Teufling itself doesn’t exist in german language. So what do you think that Teufling means?

    No offense meant, sorry… Wink

I’m not great at posing, but maybe if you simply put a mask on the extended arm, so that the little overlapping part disappears? And maybe move it a few clicks (2 or 3) to the left? Or did you mean the other shoulder?! Wink
