Wow, these are some great looking characters! Very nicely done. The backgrounds on them are really fun to read, so thank you for adding those. Judge is my favorite of the newest ones. I’ll be going through your gallery from start to finish asap (I’m somewhat new on the forums).
Great works, my friend!September 11, 2016 at 11:49 am #138372
Glad to see you’re still around. I have liked everything you’ve ever posted I believe. No difference here. Great design, color, poses for the personalities.
Very kewl on Oscar Esquivel/ the concept reminds me of one of mine. Steel. I have made him for every RP I’ve ever played.
Theodore. Love the bits you used for his techo armor.
Megumi. Love that smile, and what a wonderful gown.
Claire Reynolds is adorably cute. Well done1
The Judge’s personality comes through very well In his hooded cape as a Judge/Executioner.
Likewise on Megumi. Effective insigna considering her poser works in “burts”
Glad you are still around. I love your art and backstories.September 11, 2016 at 5:22 pm #138393
Here’s Claire’s biological father and her paternal aunt. First a little background info on their family history:
The cosmically empowered hero Solarion, an alien being of unimaginable power, fell in love with a human woman, an astrophysicist named Rachel Reynolds. She became pregnant with twins just before the outbreak of an interstellar conflict that called all Earth-based posthumans into the stars. During this sprawling adventure, Solarion sacrificed his life, detonating himself in order to wipe out the entirety of an invading empire’s armada. Rachel fell into a deep depression from which she never recovered so when the twins were born they were left more or less without parents. The remaining Honor Guard members helped raise them, and the Reynolds Twins became very close friends with their children.
PROMINENCE – Andrew Reynolds (formerly the superhero Prominence) possesses solar-based abilities. He could absorb and store solar radiation, using it to increase his strength and durability or expend it outward in a devastating blast. He married his teammate Megumi Sato (akin to high school sweethearts) after an unexpected pregnancy. Despite the suddenness they were happy. Andrew and Megumi were married for several years, but right around Claire’s 3rd birthday Andrew’s unresolved issues around his childhood as well as the pressure of caring for his sister began to bubble to the surface. Despite his hybrid physiology, there was one substance that affected Andrew as effectively as ordinary human beings: alcohol. He began to use drinking as a coping mechanism for the pressure of parenting and superheroics. His relationship with Megumi deteriorated. At one point he came into conflict with her brother and sister, and in an uncontrolled burst of his abilities he nearly burned down their home. Claire was sleeping upstairs. Megumi swiftly filed for divorce and Andrew was prohibited from seeing his daughter. Many years hence and after much hard work, Andrew has been sober for a while, and has regained visitation rights for his daughter. He has an amiable relationship with Megumi and Theodore, though she remains incredibly wary of him.
SINGULARITY – Angela Reynolds (formerly the hero Singularity) possesses the ability to warp time and space, create supermassive gravitational focal points, and inherited a portion of her father’s cosmic awareness. Because her father was never able to train her in her abilities, many years of being attuned to the universe have left her in a state of tenuous mental health. In a minor clash with a C-List villain Angela lost control and nearly collapsed a populated apartment building. She was left in a catatonic state afterwards. Andrew cared for her until his own downward spiral and subsequent incarceration. After Andrew’s release and with some help from Theo, she has been slowly coming back to normal functionality, but prefers to be isolated.September 12, 2016 at 1:38 am #138398

Good indeed. Your summary seems like it’s based on the first novel of an author who likely bungled it, making it way too long so the screenplay turned out much better. I’ve seen a lot of that.September 16, 2016 at 12:03 am #138547
Ha! Pretty accurate. I tend to get carried away with backstory and then pare down.
Continuing this little extended family concept. We have Megumi’s siblings! And her siblings have partners of her own so that means… in-laws!
HIDEKI & CAMPEÓN
THRESHOLD – Hideki Sato-Gonzalez: Megumi’s younger brother and the son of Hideyoshi Sato and an unnamed female Kami. His mother gifted each of her children with a mystic ability having to do with one of her many aspects. Hideki was born as the Master of Barriers. Hideki’s can cross over any barrier unhindered, be it a locked door, a physical object, a mystical shield, etc. He is even able to move through planes of existence. Hideki has also apprenticed in more traditional forms of magic, becoming a skilled practitioner. The sigils he has tattooed all over his body hold various spells of protection and defense, allowing him to withstand assault from even the strongest magicks. Hideki is married to Campeón Gonzalez, a fellow 2nd-generation superhero.
CAMPEÓN – Campeón Sato-Gonzalez: He is the son of legendary Mexican superhero: CUAHTEMOC, a fearless luchador with insane strength. Campeón’s mother is TONANTZIN, a Mejica priestess and a natural mystic. . From his father Campeón inherited high-level superhuman strength and durability, as well as extensive training in combat. He is married to Hideki Sato, a passing family acquaintance in childhood, turned trusted mystic consultant early in his superhero career, turned love of his life. Campeón values his family greatly. He always tries to alleviate tensions between his parents and younger siblings, and is a doting uncle to both Claire and Gabriel.September 16, 2016 at 12:07 am #138550
Hideki’s brother and sister-in-law, Campeóns younger siblings:
YAOTL – Marcela Gonzalez: Daughter of Cuahtemoc and Tonantzin, middle child of the three Gonzalez Siblings. Marcela is also physically enhanced, not as strong as her brother Campeón, but much more agile and far faster. She inherited some of her mother’s connection with the Earth. She can draw power from the planet itself, potentially amplifying her strength to a degree beyond her older brother’s, but this power wanes in areas of high pollution and urban centers. Marcel has a heavy-handed sense of humor and can come across as abrasive.
MAURICIO – Mauricio Gonzalez: the youngest sibling. He was born physically human, no powers to speak of. He can perform his mother’s arts, but his body is not attuned to receive “the gift” and it physically hurts him to utilize magic. Mauricio has always had a bit of a self-esteem issue. Campeón cares deeply for him, but Mauricio has a bit of self-destructive streak and keeps everyone at arms-length. He does get along very well with Hideki, precisely because his brother-in-law is one of the only people in his life not actively trying to “fix” him.September 16, 2016 at 12:13 am #138554
And nooooow Campeóns parents. What we refer to in Spanish as Hideki’s ‘suegros’.
CUAHTEMOC & TONANTZIN
TONANTZIN – Tonantzin Gonzalez: Mother to the Gonzalez siblings and wife of the superhero Cuahtemoc, she is a mejica mystic whose powers came naturally to her, through a deep empathic connection with the Earth. She is a wise and gentle soul and loves all of her children fiercely. Tonantzin naturally is more affectionate with Mauricio and is incredibly protective of him.
CUAHTEMOC – Rigoberto Gonzalez: The pinnacle of classic super heroic masculinity as Cuahtemoc, he championed the indomitable spirit of the luchador and dealt with criminals swiftly and decisively. His strength is unparalleled, even by the late Solarion, and his skill as a fighter is legendary. But as a father, Rigo has not always been a paragon of virtue. He had a hard time reconciling his machista reputation with Campeón’s coming out and dealt even less successfully with Mauricio’s being born a powerless human. His relationship with his sons remains somewhat strained, but Tonantzin always makes sure Rigo shows them love in his own way.September 17, 2016 at 12:05 pm #138617
Moving on with the Sato siblings and their chosen families, we have Ichiko Sato, Megumi’s older sister and the only one of her siblings not to pursue a superheroic calling in life.
ICHIKO & ANNA
ICHIKO – Ichiko Khan (née: Sato) – The oldest of the Sato children, Ichiko spent her adolescence caring for her siblings, as their father was away much of the time searching for a way back to his beloved Kami. She has a very motherly relationship to Megumi and Hideki and is very devoted to their safety. Ichiko did not choose to follow her family’s penchant for super-heroics, and is now a high-powered ad exec. Ichiko is married to psychic therapist Khalid Dawar and together they have a teenage daughter, Anna Khan. Ichiko strongly disapproves Anna’s desire to become a super-hero, leading to a contentious relationship between them. From her mother, Ichiko was granted one of her divine aspects, becoming Master of Senses. She can even peer past the veils of our dimension and perceive otherworldly phenomena. As the oldest sister, her mother granted her an additional boon of superhuman strength and the ability to fly, to better protect her siblings.
GOSSIP – Anna Khan: Teenage daughter of Ichiko and Samir Khan, Anna has burgeoning telepathic abilities that have the potential to grow more powerful than her father’s. She wants to use these powers to protect the innocent and idolizes her aunt and uncle and their superhero careers.
SAMIR & TARIQ
SAMIR – Samir Khan: A vastly powerful telepath, Samir is a talented architect. Together with his telekinetic younger brother, Samir runs a unique architectural firm. Samir will read a client’s mind to determine their ideal living space, and once plans are agreed upon and construction materials gathered, Samir, the client, and his brother will enter a telepathic hive mind. Samir’s telepathic connection with the client feeds into his brother’s telekinetic abilities and that building will essentially construct itself. He is somewhat of an Architect of the Supers and specializes in building secure dwellings for superheroes and their families. Samir and his brother built Megumi’s house, which is how he initially met Ichiko. They fell in love, were married and had a beautiful daughter together. Their daughter Anna has expressed powerful telepathic abilities similar to his own, so Samir regularly coaches her in the use of her abilities.
TARIQ – Tariq Khan: Younger brother of Samir and uncle to Anna. He is a powerful telekinetic with very refined control of his powers. Tariq and his brother were orphaned during conflicts in their native Afghanistan, and used their nascent posthuman abilities to survive. Due to this trauma, Tariq abhors violence of any kind, he only wishes to use his abilities for creative endeavors. He supports Ichiko’s wish to keep Anna out of superheroics.September 17, 2016 at 10:55 pm #138641
Campeón’s mask is seriously awesomeSeptember 18, 2016 at 5:38 am #138651
These characters and their backgrounds are really neat and well thought out. Cuahtemoc and Tonantzin are just awesome looking. Well done.September 18, 2016 at 9:49 pm #138691
Thanks for the kind words, Vec and Tiberius!
I think these are the last ones I have for this concept, the Sato parents!
HIDEYOSHI SATO & HIS WIFE
SHINING SAMURAI – Hideyoshi Sato – An incredibly accomplished superhero, empowered by a brilliant set of mystic armor and twin katanas. Together with Solarion, Hideyoshi was a founding member of the Honor Guard and a constant in its revolving roster. On one particular mission the Honor Guard came into contact with an insane archaeologist in possession of an incredibly powerful mystic artifact. When the artifact shattered the team found themselves scattered across the dimensions. Hideyoshi was stuck in a celestial plane, inhabited by the Kami of Japanese legend. There he met… her. She never gave him her name, but he was instantly in love with her. Solarion, with help from Tonantzin and other mystic consultants, found a way to retrieve his scattered teammates. For him, only a few days had passed, but for Hideyoshi, it had been years. When Solarion came to retrieve him, Hideyoshi was infused with mystic energy, far more powerful than he once was, and had three children with him: Ichiko, Megumi, and Hideki. The Kami urged Hideyoshi to take their children back to the mortal plane. She wanted them to experience the joys of the human experience: love, family, kindness. Leaving her hardened Hideyoshi’s heart, so despite having his children with him, he became distant and cold. Ichiko largely helped raise her siblings and grew up far too fast, as a way to cope with Hideyoshi’s long absences adventuring. His relationship with the three siblings remains somewhat strained.
KAMI – Unnamed – A celestial being who fell in love with a wayward human, Hideyoshi Sato. Together they had three children and raised them partly in her home dimension, before she took the opportunity to deliver them back to the mortal realm. She is a being of incalculable power, ageless, beautiful beyond compare. With most mortal interactions she wears a mask to hide her true radiance. Hideyoshi remains the only mortal to see her true form. She is able to visit her children only once a year, individually, on the day of their birth, in an astral form. She has never missed one of their birthdays.September 18, 2016 at 11:09 pm #138696
Aaaaand some family shots just for fun:
THE GONZALEZ FAMILY
THE SATO FAMILY
And the three (four if you count the baby) characters I doodled one day who started off this whole storyline:
THE LAWTON-SATO FAMILYSeptember 29, 2016 at 10:09 pm #139005
Got stuck on the idea of doing something about the five senses so worked on some quick looks and this happened:
The 5 Senses
A team of government operatives and assassins. Each member of the team is technologically and physiologically enhanced. All of them possess enhanced durability/strength/stamina and accelerated reflexes/reaction time, but they have each specifically been altered in relation to one of their senses, granting them a unique powerset.
L to R: SCULPT, SNIFF, SCOPE, SONAR, SAVOR
Sculpt (aka Johnny) – His skin has been replaced with a highly durable material, a nanotech mesh that vibrates at a harmonic quantum frequency allowing Johnny to “touch” the fabric of reality. In this state, everything he touches becomes malleable. He can reshape any material with his hands as if it was clay (steel, glass, flesh, etc.).
Sniff (aka Jean) – His enhanced olfactory system can detect even the most subtle traces of a scent in the air, allowing him to track people or unique materials across vast distances. He can also uses his abilities to scent emotions off of people, through chemical changes in their body.
Scope (aka Jon) – Greatly enhanced eyesight: telescopic vision, microscopic vision. He can see into the infrared and ultraviolet edges of the visual spectrum and at extreme focus can he begins to see several seconds into the future, allowing him to predict opponents’ moves.
Sonar (aka John) – His ears can detect the slightest vibrations in the air in his immediate vicinity. He can hear vocal and heartbeat modulations for interrogation purposes. His vocal chords have been enhanced to generate deep ultrasound, allowing him to map out any environment.
Savor (aka Jann) – Possesses psychometric-gustatory perception. He can taste neurological energy, allowing him to instantaneously consume the memories of his targets. He can also uses this ability for identifying purposes as every individual possesses a unique psychic “flavor”.September 30, 2016 at 4:05 am #139016
Interest concept, and neat designs- they have a bit of a creepy edge, especially Savor. And I like the animal-like shape on Sonar’s ear setup
