Caption Contest 70

Come up with the funniest -- while still being clean, that's important this week, as you'll see -- replacement dialog for the balloon in this panel and you'll win the chance to include any item you like, or a portrait of yourself, in HeroMachine 3!

cc70-casper

The rules are simple:

  • No more than three entries per person;
  • All entries must be left as a comment (all in one comment or separate ones, doesn't matter) to this post;
  • Must be relatively clean, appropriate for broadcast on late-night network TV, for instance.

That's it! Good luck everyone, we'll post the Finalists for voting next Monday.

Character Contest 27 Vote!

I hate doing this, but I am going to change the rules for the "Hunted vs. Hunter" contest mid-stream because this thing didn't quite work out the way I intended originally. My apologies for the course correction. What we're going to do instead is to have two polls, one for the best overall Hunter and one for the best overall Hunted. The top vote getter overall will receive a free custom black and white character portrait by yours truly, while the top vote getter in the OTHER category will get any item they like or a portrait of themselves to go into the HeroMachine 3 final version.

In other words, if the overall vote leader is a Hunter, then the Hunter team "wins" and that person gets a character portrait. The top Hunted vote-getter essentially becomes runner-up and gets an item. Or if the overall leader is Hunted, the top Hunter would come in second. Hope that makes sense.

Good luck everyone! You can vote for three Hunters and two Hunteds. Congratulations to all the Finalists, you did a great job! Click on any of the images below to see the character in a larger size.

Caption Contest 69 Winner!

Congratulations to TheNate for winning Caption Contest 69!

Nate, let me know what item you'd like to appear in HeroMachine 3's final version, or if you'd prefer a portrait instead.

Thanks to everyone who entered and to all the other Finalists!

Olympian Games Gymnastics

The ancient Greek Gods have transported some of the most famous and capable super-hero characters from multiple universes to the site of the first ever Olympian Games, pitting the greatest champions ever conceived against each other in comic-book style competition! Hammerknight has tabulated your suggestions and the first event is now under way:

[polldaddy poll="2691073"]

You can vote for up to three characters. Next Friday the votes will be counted, with the top-place finisher getting Gold, second place Silver, and third place Bronze. Make your arguments in the comments as to why you choose who you do, and may the most gymnastically gifted character win!

Many thanks to Hammerknight for thinking up this idea and putting it all together.

Character Contest 27 – Hunter vs. Hunted

The character design contest for this week is a bit more involved than usual, but here goes.

Your challenge is to build a character in any HeroMachine version that would fit into the category of either "Hunted" or "Hunter". At the end of the week, I'll pick an equal number of superior designs from each category to go into a poll. Whichever group gets the most overall votes at the end of a week will be the winner, giving each of the finalists their choice of either any item or their own portrait to go into the HeroMachine 3 final version. The member of that group who gets the most votes will instead receive a custom black and white character sketch of whatever they like (within reason).

Here in bullet form are the rules:

  • Using any HeroMachine version, create a character that fits into the category "Hunted" or "Hunter";
  • Upload an image of the character to a publicly accessible web server (ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the UGO HeroMachine forums, whatever) and post that link as a comment to this post;
  • Also in the comment, include which category the character goes in, their name, and why they belong in the group you chose;
  • Next Monday, I will post a poll containing the same number of finalists from each group, and you'll be able to vote for as many as you want. The "team" with the most overall votes will win for each contributor an item or portrait to go into HeroMachine 3, except for the overall vote winner, who will get a free custom black and white character portrait;

  • A limit of two overall submissions, one in each category. You don't have to do two, you can do just one if you want.

Hope that makes sense! You can do characters from fantasy, sci-fi, super-heroes, cartoons, whatever you want. I do prefer that

Caption Contest 69 Vote!

Thank you to everyone who entered Caption Contest 69, there were some really great submissions. I've selected the six I thought were funniest (and which fit in that balloon), put them into the image, and set up a poll so you can vote for the ones you think are best. The winner will be the one with the most votes come next Monday.

Good luck to the six Finalists!

Character Contest 26 Winner!

The winner of Character Contest 26: Golden Oldies is ... Jake and his Minuteman redesign!

jake-minuteman2

Jake wins his choice of either any item or a portrait of himself to appear in the final version of HeroMachine 3. Congratulations! It was a great looking illustration.

I also tip my hat to Gero's Spy Smasher and Kyle's Ms. Scarlet, as they were the next runners-up.

Thanks to everyone who entered!

Olympian Introductions

Hammerknight has come up with what I think will be a very fun and interesting set of super-hero events which we're calling "Olympia Games" (ahem). He's put together an introductory poster describing what he has in mind (click to see it larger):

For those of you with problems getting to or viewing the poster, I'll try to retype the verbiage. And mega THANKS to Hammerknight both for the great idea, and for running it, he IS the man!

The First Ever Comic Book Hero OLYMPIA GAMES!

Contestants:
You get to pick who you want to compete. Pick a hero from any Comic Book Publisher. Then all you have to do is post your choices in the comment section below as follows: Hero's Name, Publisher, and the event you want to see them in.

The Events:

  • Gymnastics, Combat Tactical Course
  • Track and Field, 1000 mile Race
  • Swimming, 1000 mile Freestyle
  • Target Shooting, Combat Tactical Course
  • Tug-of-War, Five Person Team

After all the suggestions are made I, Hammerknight, will gather it all up and set up the events. With Tug-of-War being a five person team event, I will make the team-ups from the more suggested heroes, so if you can't pick out five heroes for the team that you would like to see together, I am sure that other people will make some suggestions to help fill out the teams. Then we will post a Poll with the events and contestants listed. Then vote for who you would like to win the event.

Start making suggestions today and we will have the Voting start next Friday and post the winners the Friday after.

HM3: Zyppy!

I've just added Zyp's prize for being a Friday Night Fights semi-finalist:

For some reason I did a screencast of the drawing process, if you're interested it's after the jump.

day-of-vengeance-1-2005-monkey

The rules are simple:

  • No more than three entries per person;
  • Each entry must be left as a comment (or all three in one comment, whatever) to this post;
  • Keep it clean, appropriate for a late-night broadcast television show.

That's it! Good luck everyone, we'll run this contest for a week and next Monday I'll post the finalists for you to vote on.
