Caption Contest 87 Winner!

The votes are in and your winner for Caption Contest 87 is ... Doomed Pixel for this quality joke:

Congratulations to Doomed Pixel, who alas has a long history of not claiming his prizes. Maybe this will turn into another bonus for those of you who haven't won, as you'll get to vote on another replacement item!

The full results are as follows for those who are curious:

Character Contest 51: Alien Nation

Your character design challenge for this week is to create an alien. You could go all out and do examples of several different sub-species inhabiting a planet, or a super-hero with an alien background, or a fantasy alien invader (like the Mind Flayers), or a specific alien from literature (a named Green Martian from Burroughs, for example), or anything else you can think of that would qualify under the name "alien".

  • All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the UGO Forums, whatever);
  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • The image cannot have been used in any previous HeroMachine character design contest -- we had an "Angels and Demons" contest and a "D&D Character" contest a while back, for instance, and I don't want repeats of stuff you already did for those;
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension]. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his "Bayou Belle" character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). If you see "preview" or "rotate" somewhere in the link you're probably doing it wrong.
  • All entries must be in by next Monday, when I'll choose a winner, who will receive his or her choice of any item or a portrait to be included in the final HeroMachine 3 program, or a "Sketch of the Week" style black and white illustration.

Caption Contest 87 VOTE!

We had some wickedly funny entries for Caption Contest 87, many thanks to everyone who took the time to enter and share your creativity with us. The challenge was to come up with the funniest replacement dialog for this blank caption panel which, along with all your children, are © Marvel Comics:

I couldn't pick just one, so I am off-loading the job onto you. I selected the entries I thought were funniest overall, and now you get to vote for the ones you think are best. You can only vote one time between now and midnight Mountain Time, but in that one vote you can pick as many as you think are worthy.

Good luck to the Finalists! Winner announced in the morning.

Friday Night Fights, Round 3!

It's Final Four time in Friday Night Fights, and that's a lot of "F"s, my friends. So without further ado, I present our matchups (click on an image to see it at a larger size):

FNF2 Round 2 RESULTS!

By doubling up his nearest competitor in terms of percentage of the vote, the winner of the Friday Night Fights 2 Round 2 Consolation Prize is ... Alex! His Little John was judged the best by 27% of the votes cast; congratulations to him.

In the main bracket, the results were as follows:

  • DiCicatriz 117, Gargoyle323 40
  • Frevoli 82, VonMaclolm 77
  • Myro 109, JordanXord 37
  • Imp 114, Me Myself and I 44

That sets up a Final Four of Imp (9) vs. Myro (5), and Frevoli (10) vs. DiCicatriz:

Congratulations to all the winners, and good luck in the next round, which I'll post in a couple of hours.

Caption Contest 87

Welcome all my friends to the show that never ends! We're so glad you could arrive, look inside, look inside!

Or failing that, come up with the funniest replacement dialog for this random comics panel from "Captain America":

Otherwise, the rules are simple — as many entries as you like (within the bounds of good personal editing), appropriate for no worse than a late-night broadcast TV show, by next Monday. The winner receives their choice of a) any item they like to be included in HeroMachine 3; b) any portrait they like to be included in HM3; or c) any subject (within reason) for a Sketch of the Day style custom black and white drawing.

Good luck everyone!

(All of those various Captain America iterations, this specific image, the term “super-hero”, and any ideas you have ever had or might have in the future, along with the contents of your sock drawer, are all © Marvel Comics.)

Character Contest 50 Winners!

Wow, we had a phenomenal number of absolutely outstanding entries for Character Contest 50: Lord Random III! This may be a record number of Finalists, I'm not sure, but regardless everyone should be very proud of themselves this week. I really appreciate all the hard work and creativity on display.

Without further ado, therefore, your Finalists! As a reminder, the challenge was to put together a concept using names randomly generated from the Seventh Sanctum site.

Friday Night Fights 2, Round 2: Little John

Ladies and gentlemen, your attention please! For your delight and amusement we now present four knock-down, drag-out, in-your-face heads-up matches pitting the creativity of some of the Internet's most creative people tackling the challenge of creating "Robin Hood in Space" using HeroMachine 3! The following Elite Eight players survived some tough contests that saw their versions of "Friar Tuck" beat the competition, and now we're moving on to "Little John."

Your votes decide who wins each matchup: You can vote once per day in each of the four matches. That's right, once per day! So get all of your friends to come back to HeroMachine.com each day to stuff your ballot box. You can see a larger version of each entry simply by clicking on the thumbnail and you can read the stories after all the polls are listed. The winner of each match as of midnight Thursday receives their choice of either a) any item they like to be included in HeroMachine 3; b) any portrait they like to be included in HeroMachine 3; or c) a custom black and white "Sketch of the Day" illustration.

Finally, we also have all of the "Little John" entries from everyone who's been eliminated thus far. You can also vote in that all-in scrum once per day, with the overall winner as of midnight Thursday will receive the same prize choices as the matchup winners.

FNF2 Round 1 (Friar Tuck) Winners!

Congratulations to the winners of Friday Night Fights 2, Round 1 (Friar Tuck): Me, Myself and I; Imp; JordanXord; Myro; VonMalcolm; Frevoli; DiCicatriz; and Gargoyle323!

The closes race was between JordanXord and Atomic Punk, with a margin of victory of just one vote! I don't think there's ever been a closer match, congratulations to JordanXord for pulling it out, and sympathies to Atomic Punk for the squeaker loss. VonMalcolm also only won by four votes (72 to 68 for Alex). Me, Myself, and I got the most total votes at 105, narrowly edging out Myro at 103 for the honor:

Those entrants not advancing to Round 2 (Cliff, Rozenstal, Atomic Punk, GeneH, Alex, Hammerknight, TJ, and Jean) will be added to Consolation Round 2 so everyone can see their Little John entries, along with everyone eliminated in the Play-In Round.

The winner of Consolation Round 1 (Friar Tuck) was AJW, nudging out Rancid by six votes. AJW wins his choice of either a) any item he likes to be included in HM3; b) any portrait he likes to be included in HM3; or c) a custom black and white Sketch of the Day style illustration. Congratulations to AJW!

I'll have Round 2 matches up later today; I wanted the winners to have a few hours at least to revel in their victory.

More prizes

I've just added the following item to Headgear-Standard for HeroMachine 3 as MScat's "Character Contest 47" prize:

And the following three items to "FootRight-Male-Standard" for Joshua's "Caption Contest 86" prize:

That's the same boot, just broken into the foot portion, the calf portion, and then assembled all as one.

Enjoy! If you like 'em, be sure to thank the winners.
