Pop Quiz: Mother's Day

Tomorrow is Mother's Day in the US of A -- wait, is it Mother's Day in other countries, too? I'm so parochial! -- so your one-day slightly-more-complicated-than-usual quick-fire challenge is:

Show us what a super-hero (or super-villain!) would give their mother for Mother's Day!

My mind boggles at the possibilities. Also, just because my mind is generally in a boggle-ish state.

You only get one entry -- that's right, just one! So make it your best. Most of the other rules are the same as for a regular contest, but instead of a whole week I'll announce the winner either tonight or first thing in the morning.

  • All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the UGO Forums, whatever);
  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension]. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his "Bayou Belle" character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). Here's a quick-start guide on how to do that for various image hosting services.

The winner will receive their choice of either one item or one portrait to be included in the final HeroMachine 3 release, or one Sketch of the Day style drawing where you pick the subject and I draw it how I like.

Good luck!

    Princess Precious,

What mother wouldn’t love roses, especially from her loving little daughter who didn’t just grow them, but created them herself.

(I picture the happy side of the Twilight Zone episode, where the little kid could make anything happen he wished)

    Adorable little girl Dblade!

  2. Jeff Hebert says:

    Very cute, Cliff!

  3. NHA247 says:

Every superhero has dirty laundry, some are unable to get out those awful dirt stains or Kryptonite fragments or those horrible cosmic energy smudges. So you always turn to Mom to get the job done! Why not give her a gift as well!

    Happy Mothers Day!

  4. Mad Doctor says:

Can i use real comics characters or i must image my own?

Always your own. Never copyrighted images of someone else’s creation.

  6. maniacmick says:

Superheroes are busy, so they tend to wait until the last minute to get stuff, and they tend to be low on cash so their gifts are often cheap or tacky.

  7. I’m having a hard enough time thinking of what to get my mom as it is!

  8. Mad Doctor says:

Here is my character. When he was a little boy, his father drunk a lot. His father was an alcoholic and sadist and kicked character’s mother. Then, his father left the family.
Now, that little boy becomes Red Insane, evil supervillain and he gifted to his mother…
    His father ^_^

  9. mondo says:

i thought for sure … mom as a SUPERHERO … she is that. can heromachine handle it? let’s see.
what to get her? revolves around the thing/gift? mom doesn’t need more things=crap.

The Villainous Emperor of Sixth Space gives his mother the World

  12. Shiboreth says:

“Dear Queen Sraak, Ruler of Mars, Overseer of the Nine Moons, Guardian of Secrets, also known as Mother,

When I was a child, you always told me that I meant the world to you. So, for this Mother’s Day, I give you the world in return.

    With Love, Your Daughter,
    Princess Kass”

  13. Skybandit says:

The Red Heart is associated with both Valentines and Mothers Days… but Dr. Fu Manchu tends to take these things literally!

PS: Fu Manchu is Public Domain in the United States, but his daughter isn’t, so I can’t use the same gag for Fathers Day!

  14. Myro says:

What do evil genius scientists with aspirations of world domination do for Mother’s Day? Well, provided they haven’t locked their mother in the dungeon by now, Mother’s Day is probably similar to what happens at Lord Tyrant’s mom’s house.

  15. LoneWolf6155 says:

Even supervillian’s moms need heavily armed help around the house from time to time.

  16. Herr D says:

Aw, man. These are great. I love this contest. And I don’t even have time to make an entry even if you are still accepting them at 4am . . .

  17. Herr D says:

Woohoo! I had an extra half-hour.

    Scared messenger arrives and announces:
“yy-yy-your d-d-daughter Draga sends this bouquet of six Mystery Men and the mayor’s h-heads and her picture. Sh-she said you c-could tip me by n-not k-k-k-k-killing me?

  18. Kytana says:

Title: For all Supermoms of the world

The cake we called in Austria “Gugelhupf” and in German Napfkuchen. Its as ancient tradition for us to give them on mothers day.

  19. LoneWolf6155 says:

Looking over the rules, I can’t believe I forgot to change the name of my entry again.

Thank you, sir. My wife should take some of the credit too.
And by the way, my daughter was quite amused to see herself in your piece.
