META: Upgrading forums

Since I can't do anything else without Photoshop or my HeroMachine files, I'm going to upgrade the forums to the latest Simple:Press version. Hopefully it won't break anything.

Ha! Of course it's going to break things, that's what upgrades DO!

META: Stolen laptop

My laptop for work (which also had all of my HeroMachine stuff on it) was stolen from my truck last night. That's going to put a serious crimp in my posting ability for a few days at least while I get things back in order.

In other words, it might be till the weekend or later before you see regular updates here. My apologies.

Bad Costume Powers, ACTIVATE!

It's no secret that I consider the West Coast Avengers to be the all-time worst-dressed team in comics history. They featured Iron Man in arguably his worst armor, the worst-dressed married couple in Hawkeye and Mockingbird, a cat woman whose "costume" was a plain blue bikini, and Lifetime Achievement Award in Bad Clothing winner Wonder Man.

Which explains why, if you're a super villain looking to make your mark on the world, you'd give yourself the power to absorb all of their bad fashion choices into one, all-encompassing Suit of Suckage:

Boba Fett vs. Predator. Who wins?

Our Versus battle today features two titans of science fiction hunting bad-assery:

Both are killers, both are adept at hunting down prey, both are armed with roughly equal weaponry. Each is self-reliant, so we're talking a clean and simple one-on-one matchup without lots of extraneous hangers-on mucking up the battlefield.

I also like that each one hunts down their targets professionally, full time. This is what they do. Unlike some of our other Versus match-ups, we're not going to get a slugfest with two mighty warriors smashing each other's faces in. Well, probably. No, this is more likely to be a thinking-man's game of strike and counter-strike, trap and elude, ambush and counter-strike. I think it would be tremendously fun to see and I have no idea who would win.

That's why I look forward to your vote and your explanation -- who would win this matchup and why?

Caption Contest 118 Winners

Apologies once again for being so late with the winners of Caption Contest 118, but here they are at last!

  • Dr. Shrinker: That’s fine, now we’ll just sneak you into Ol’ McDonald’s farm!
  • Frankie: “Easy there, boy. You haven’t seen a bear around these parts, have you?”
  • Frankie: “That’s not what I had expected to find out about what bears do in the woods.”
  • McKnight57: The last thing I ate actually sound like this: Moo…moo!
  • Skybandit: Good disguise, Tonto, but you need to work on your accent!
  • Whit: Stan! Kyle! I’ve found me a man-bear-dog!
  • Kaito94: “Lassie? You in there?”
  • Whit: Um, oink, oink? I’m not sure I understand the rules of this game…
  • Jack Frost: “…sit?”

There were a lot of "who let the dogs out" sorts of entries, but I just felt like it was too obvious. I'm weird about my comedy.

I liked all of those Finalists very much, but being only able to pick one, I had to go with ... Frankie!

Congratulations, Frankie!

META: Downage

As you can see, the site was down for a large part of the day due to problems at DreamHost central (the company who hosts the domain). It's up now but with the day job stuff going on, it's going to be fairly late tonight before I get to the contest winners and the new one. My apologies.

So much for the Comics Code
