HM3: Fantasy Headgear

I am super pumped to announce the release of the "Headgear-Fantasy" set of items for the HeroMachine 3 Alpha. I've included most of your suggestions over the past few months for various other things (full suits of armor when I was working on chest pieces, etc.), and also gone frame by frame to import (and update, for the most part) the items from the same set in HeroMachine 2.

Here's a quick sample showing some of the all-new items, and then at the end a couple of conversions:

Hope you like them! I've got room for a few more at the end, although at 78 items it's getting close to the ceiling. But let me know if there's some key bit missing you were really hoping for and I'll see what I can do.

    “Squeeeee!!!”

Or at least that’s what I would say if I wasn’t so worried about what everybody thinks about me. . .

Hmmm. That kind of let the cat out of the bag anyway didn’t it? Oh, the heck with it. This is a great addition Jeff! I’ve been looking foreward to this for a while.

  2. Gene says:

I like this addtion a lot, but That Hawk helmet rocks.

  3. Nick Hentschel says:

Great stuff! And it’ll be even more fun when we can break them down into components, so that we can make our OWN crazy helmets!

  4. Jeff Hebert says:

Um, this is as broken down as they’re going to get … those helmets with bits that look like they could be broken out, have them broken out already. For instance, the top row, last two helmets in the preview above are the same helmet, one without wings and one with wings. There are plenty of wings in various other sets, and horns in the Ears, that you ought to be able to put together a pretty nice helmet already. There are a few nose guards broken out, the Roman helmet horse brush thingies, plenty of bits for your constructing, knock yourself out.

  5. Kaldath says:

The only thing I would add to this set would be 1 or 2 visors for over the eyes ( not full face visors just the eyes ) so we are able to customize a few of those open faced helms.

  6. Quark says:

Thanks a lot for the update! I really missed the wizardΒ΄s hat and the crowns.

  7. The Eric says:

Very nice, thanks Jeff! I especially like the helmet in the top right of that preview, it would be good for making and India-style character.

I have a few suggestions for items:
Murmillo hat and mask, split up: http://www.majhost.com/gallery/kaka/Stuff/murmillo.png
    Conquistador helmet (Morion): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c3/AlonsodeMendozaPintura.jpg

Fantasy items! I love them! πŸ™‚

  14. Gargoyle323 says:

Very nice,Jeff! These look very sweet! Thank you!

  15. Cam says:

You know what would be epic? a Skew option for the items!

  16. Jeff Hebert says:

Skewing is not possible at run-time using Flash. I can do it while creating the items at author-time, but not once the file is compiled and exported as a SWF.

  17. You know what would be an easy and epic addition to this epic selection!??!?
A pumpkin head! I have a bad ass mask that would look great on anyones Halloween themed character(including mine)! Might I give some links in a later post for refrence? It could be done in a day easy to draw and super creepy! >:D
Whaddaya say? I think it would make a great add on to these masks plus halloween is just around the conor….

  18. I’d also say that other guy that noted the glatorial helmet and stuff would also be cool as h3ll!!!! You are one of the best artists I can think of and seeing stuff like those with your touch would just well…..ROCK!! πŸ™‚
Please consider those and deffinatly the jack o’ lantern head for holloween! Please?

  19. Danny Beaty says:

I second the pumpkin head mask!

This is another awesome mask/helmet and it would fit in great with the others. It is keres dark helm. (Guy on the right not the lil girl) and it is also an awesome mask that would just be a PERFECT fit with those others…not to be pushy….and thanks danny beaty! πŸ™‚

  21. I mean left….he’s the knight. I’m sure I could find other refrences to, because that is not the best one…

  22. HecNukem says:

I was thinking if you could separate the samurai helmet and the crest so you could put other crest on it other than that moon crest already on it,
    Other crests could be:

I second Lonewolf’s (#13) suggestion of the conical hat.

  24. spidercow2010 says:

    Wicked awesome

  25. scorpidius says:

No wonder you are super pumped Jeff!!

    These are all absolutely fantastic!!

I am loving all the fantasy updates of late, and this one just blows me away.

What a selection! Well I better stop gassing and go get stuck into these bad boys!

    Top marks Jeff

  26. Rozenstal says:

Skin masks – very nice! Thanks, Jeff!
I like mask or helm without a nose and a mouth, like Fate`s helm, only there is less in size.
    And Doom`s helm-mask!!

  27. Legatus says:

    Thanks Jeff! That’s super cool.

  28. Moognation says:

So geeked about these!! Fantastic stuff, Jeff!

  29. C. Baize says:

Only thing I can see missing is your basic Spangenhelm. Can’t do a proper Viking or Saxon without a Spangenhelm. πŸ™‚

Spangenhelm with chain neck-guard (kettenhaube) attached.
    http://www.thing-schmiede.de/neue%20Thing%20Schmiede/images/Spangenhelm%20und%20Kettenhaube.jpg

    Basic Spangenhelm.
    http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/images/spangenhelm-an1.jpg

Spangenhelm with the broader nose-guard. Note that it’s the direct pre-cursor to the Norman conical helm.
    http://www.ancientreplicas.com.au/images/SpangenhelmAA.JPG

Spangenhelm with a more elaborate kettenhaube. This is a reproduction of a Spangenhelm found, I THINK, at Sutton Hoo.
    http://www.gemstone.net/etimes/et9/images/camail.jpg

This is the most common Spangenhelm.
    http://www.die-ritterschmiede.de/Ritterhelm_Ritterhelme__Schauk/Spangenhelm_277.jpg

    Spangenhelm with some Celtic influence.
    http://www.therionarms.com/reenact/therionarms_c1127_model.jpg

Another Sutton Hoo Spangenhelm, but this one is believed to have belonged to a king.. hence the fancy engraving.
    http://www.therionarms.com/reenact/therionarms_c599.jpg

    Another basic Spangenhelm.
    http://www.wulflund.com/images_items/viking-ocular-helmet_3.jpg

That’s plenty of resource material. πŸ™‚
Great job on what’s there, too. Awesome work, Jeff! πŸ™‚

  30. The Eric says:

    Another Egyptian thing, a pharaoh’s headdress: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2d/Tutmask.jpg

  31. NEON_N64 says:

    I want to third LoneWolf’s suggestion at #13. Well… kind of…

I’d like to specify one particular type of kasa (japanese conical straw hat). The RONIN GASA or hat of the lordless samurai. The most badass of the kasa πŸ™‚
