HM3: Runic fonts

I've just added a "Fonts-Runic" set to HeroMachine 3 for your use in creating various magicky-looking bits. Most of these are just symbols, and only uppercase at that, so you might have to play around a bit to see all the permutations.

You can use these as a nameplate for the image; individual letters as insignia; sized and rotated for runic branding on weapons; individual letters rotated around for spell effects; masked onto skin as tattoos; or any one of a dozen other ways I am sure the creative community can devise.

Have fun!

Wow Jeff. You just keep them coming!

The link below if to some fonts that I use regularly with all the characters showing. I thought they might help for a few more ideas. I highlighted a few specific fonts that I thought might be of value.

Hobbiton Brushhand – you have a very Elvish Lord of the Rings font up there. This Hobbiton font would complement it well.

Broken Planewing – good for medieval character’s.

Uberhölme – any of the Uberhölme fonts are great for medieval characters as well.

The 3 last doesn’t appear on the set.

  3. Jeff Hebert says:

Give it some time or clear your cache, Fabien — probably the serve has the original version of the file from this morning cached, which didn’t have the last three. At some point it’ll refresh.

  4. Jeff Hebert says:

MMI, since I don’t have those fonts installed locally, I can’t see any of them in the Word document. They all come out as Arial. I would need an actual TrueType font or whatnot — you being able to see them on your computer is because you have them installed on your computer, but if I don’t have them on mine they won’t show up.

  5. Fabien says:

I’ve refreshed and the proble persists.

    Ahh, interesting, another useful update.

Maybe these fonts would be a good addition (they’re from Zelda).

OK, I re-uploaded the file, try it now.

Ah yes, silly me; I know better too. Well in that case, I will include links to a pdf version of the file I originally posted and to where the three I mentioned can be downloaded if you are interested.

    Thanks Jeff
I particularly love the Elven Runes.
    Can’t wait.

I actually noticed them earlier when I was making this, although I didn’t use them on it.
Please forgive my indulgence, and thank you Jeff, for the tools to help me illustrate a person’s life.

His name is Coke, but he didn’t drnk it, he did collect Coke stuff from time to time, but not Coca-Cola.
Coke lived on his computer, as so many of us do,
He like his iphone a lot too.
He liked frogs quite a bit, and used to have a large collection.
He kept his drapes closed almost all the time.
He was great with plants, and cats. Represented is Greta the tabby, Harmony the gray, and Karlotta the black,
He scribbled notes for this and that, but wrote almost all of his poetry on the computer. He has several poetry books, one called The Train And Beyond.
He read the Bible occasionally but was actually a Universal Unitarian.
He also like Esher drawings, taking pictures of run down buildings and gay porn.

Not illustrated, he liked Leggos, boxes, and clothes.
hated abortion, wars, any sort of killing … unless it was spiders.
He tended to binge on buying and then would purge, then cycle through again.
He loved music: Barbara Streisand, Tori Amos, Annie Lennox, Scissor SIsters … all sorts of cool off the wall stuff.
There was lots of other stuff about him too …

He was my lover and ex-husband.
I hadn’t talked to him in over a year, because we made each other crazy.

I still love him, and will miss him terribly.

@Gargoyle323, I want to thank you for illustrating we can do product logos, which I used one in my Memorial pic.
    Thanks a lot!

  13. @Jeff: I was wondering about that, actually. Instead of loading various fonts into HM, there might be a way that HM can access whatever fonts the End-User has on his / her computer. Would save you time finding and loading.

I really like these fonts. Just used a set to update an HM 2.5 character for my brother’s girlfriend’s tween daughter. She printed it and stuck it on her Trapper Keeper.

@Cliff: Very nice memorial. Sorry for your loss.

  14. Jeff Hebert says:

I don’t know of any way to do that, Atomic Punk. As far as I know, the fonts have to be embedded into the movie the Flash Player is playing.

  15. Cliff says:

    Jeff
Is there any way to get a font or two that has an OUTLINE and not a Sadow. for instance I am wanting to do a font woith Blue with a red aoutline and a white outline … but all tehre are are side shadows.

  16. Jake says:

I think some Egyptian hieroglyphics would be a good inclusion. Letters could also act as additional insignias.

I’d also like to see some Chinese characters.

  17. The last set of Runes is a Zodiac. Does the lower-case “s” represent Aries? Kind of looks like a ram’s horn, but the common style looks like a “Y” with its arms curved downward.

Just want to verify that there is a symbol for Aries in there. I see all the others. Thanks.

  18. Gargoyle323 says:

@Cliff: Glad that something I did was useful for you. Sorry for your loss and really nice job on the memorial.

  19. Already having too much fun with all these new elements. :9
