HM3: Take a bow

I've just update the HeroMachine 3 Alpha with the "ItemRightRanged" set, featuring all manner of bows with a couple of arrows, a boomerang, a sling, and a javelin "thrown" in for good measure.

If you have specific bows you want included that you don't see, let me know. Your best shot at getting an item included (besides winning one of the character contests!) is to put a link to an image of what you want in your request, like Solander did. That's no guarantee, but it's a lot easier on me if I have an actual reference to look at.

Hope you like the new set of items! Next up is probably Shields, as it ought to be easy to knock those out.

Note that I won't be converting these all over to "ItemLeft" til I get all the sets done. In the meantime, "flip" is your friend.

  2. RJ mcd says:

jeff can i have a shild that can be two diffrent colours mostly red and white for my canadian hero the canadian shield

  3. Skiriki says:

Chakram! That awesome circular throwing weapon!

Shuriken! In couple of different designs, please?

  4. Eric says:

I’d also like to have a slingshot, a throwing axe like a tomahawk, a bolas, and darts. (maybe a blowgun?)

Skiriki, there are already shuriken in BladesTwo.

  5. silentbilbo says:

I’m new here so it’s probably impolite to make requests, but the character I submitted for the fantasy contest, Daekel, uses a custom weapon I’ve always wanted to use in my heromachine pics. So here it is, it’s basically a large headed Hammer with a curved blade on the back side.

  6. Hammerknight says:

    They look good Jeff.

  7. Hammerknight says:

Say Jeff could we get them in left item also to make it easier to mask(same with blades).

  8. Jeff Hebert says:

@silentbilbo: Not impolite at all, I’ve got the image saved in my reference folder, and hopefully will remember it when I do the Blunt conversion. If not remind me when I post it and I can add it back in.

@Hammerknight: See the end of the post above, “Note that I won’t be converting these all over to “ItemLeft” til I get all the sets done. In the meantime, “flip” is your friend.”

    🙂

  9. Hammerknight says:

Okay just didn’t read it all.

  10. Jeff Hebert says:

@RJ: Probably, if it’s not there when I post the file remind me about it.

@Skiriki: There are three or four shuriken in the Blades2. Should I move them over? The chakram would be good, I can’t remember where it was in 2.x but I’ll go find it.

@Eric: There’s a sling already in there, what do you mean by a slingshot? A tomahawk should go in Blades I would think. Bolas are a good idea. I think there’s a dart in one of the Blades or Standard, isn’t there? If not I should add one.

  11. RJ mcd says:

it was was in hm2 but it looked kinda dull i would like it more curvy if possible

  12. RJ mcd says:

its the fist shield second row of the right hand extension shields in hm2 *catches his breath *

  13. coyote says:

like to see a pump style cross bow or a repeater crossbow

  14. violodion says:

    BUG / Problem:

First two crossbows are drawn at an angle, unlike every other ‘Ranged’ Item on a 90° angle.

Reduces the re-usability since it cannot be evenly scaled on just the X or Y axis.

Hand crossbow has more “business end” appeal than the repeating crossbow.

  15. RSC5 says:

Well then, I’ll certainly be sure to provide as many image examples as possible when the time comes for the female standard item-making fun. As important as all this weapon stuff is, I rather miss having a ready request for these updates.

On that incredibly unrelated note, someone asked me the other day if male characters will be able to wear dresses in HM3. I had no reply other than, “I don’t know, but I for one would certainly create an amusingly manly soldier with that particular option.”

  16. Jeff Hebert says:

Yep, you’ll be able to use any item with any other item, including “female” sets for “male” bodies. They might not FIT but you can slap ’em on there.

  17. Jeff Hebert says:

@V: Those were literally cut-and-pastes from 2.x. They look cool, so even if they can’t be used as often as they might otherwise, they’re worth having in. Plus with the way the staves are oriented on a crossbow, trying to draw them side-view like a gun wouldn’t really look like a crossbow, you know?

  18. RSC5 says:

Awesome! I’m sure one could resize it anyway. Boob lines may be a problem. Unless said character is supposed to have boobs, in which case there ya go.

  19. RJ_McD says:

Rsc5 boobs are never a problem there one of mother natures best inventions

  21. violodion says:

@Jeff, post #20: Could have truth, yet the pulley crossbow was drawn at the flexible 90° angle (that be the third row, first item in ‘Ranged’).

HM2 poses were presented at near-3/4 angle, using items drawn on that angle with the HM3 straight-on pose is…different.

Besides, who wants to necessarily re-use the item(s) as a crossbow? Who knows what goes on in the likes of Hammerknight’s mind? 🙂

Not a crisis, rather reliable consistency.

btw, Solander, please tell us what you really want.

  22. Danny Beaty says:

A high-tech six-shot speargun, the barrels arranged in a circle.

  23. Tim says:

Wow Solander is on fire with the links! I’ll jump on the bandwagon when firearms come around 🙂

Shields are next, eh? How about the Boomshield from the Gears of War 2 game?

It doesn’t have to be an exact replica, just something similar would be cool.

    Thanks, Jeff.

  24. paul says:

Jeff how about a repeating crossbow similar to the one in the Van Helsing movie?

I also vote for shields next!

  25. Eric says:

Slingshot, just like a Y with a sling on it. Could be good for mischievous characters.

  26. Jeff Hebert says:

@Solander: DizZAM! OK, shields are put off for a day or two while I work through some of those ideas.

  27. RJ McD says:

lol poor jeff us fans are driving you nuts “)

  28. Jeff Hebert says:

It’s all good RJ, most of the best items and features have come from the user community, I appreciate it very much.

  29. Al says:

Oh, come on! NOW you come out with the crossbows AFTER I go through the trouble of arranging insignias in my recent character contest entry! Why, Jeff? Did mine give you inspiration to make the others(in which case I thank you for considering my efforts), do you hate me(just kidding), or did you just decide to do it a while ago or for the character contest?

  30. Jeff Hebert says:

    It’s the hate one.

    :-p

    Just kidding.

  31. The Imp says:

Awesome work on the bows, Jeff.

    BTW, don’t forget my bat-bow…

  32. Meg says:

Would you mind doing Ozma of Oz’s headpiece? It’s long out of copyright, and I’ve been trying and failing at making Ozma on HeroMachine ever since I found the site! It consists of a diadem with big ole poppies on the sides, and some kind of ribbon trailing from the sides. She usually, but not always, wears a crown with it, as shown in the third reference picture, but that would be a separate item if you would deign to make them. Also, the second and fourth pictures show her sceptre, if you would be willing to make that, too. I know it’s a tall order, but I’d be grateful forever if you’d make them! Here are a handful of reference shots:

  33. Solander says:

    @ violodion:

Actually, I did tell you guys what I really wanted; you’d be surprised to see all the stuff I didn’t include. @_@

But, jokes put aside, you have a point and I will try and limit the number of links in the future down to the very select few. Ah, if only there wasn’t so much to choose from.

  34. berserker says:

heres an easy one for you to draw

its alled an altal,it is an ancient native maerican dart throwing weapon, they often used stone tipped darts.

  35. Socrates says:

I’d like to see some sort of spear/harpoon launcher

  36. chase says:

hey jeff how do you put links for other sites on your text the thing i am writing now

  37. Jeff Hebert says:

Just cut and paste the address in Chase. Or you can manually type it out just like you type anything else.

  38. chase says:

    Thanks Jeff!

  39. chase says:

jeff ignore the website its this one but i just put in 17 websites with cool stuff for you to maybe make and it just siad thanks jeff

  40. Jeff Hebert says:

Chase, I appreciate the hard work, but here are a couple of guidelines to make sure you get the most bang for your buck.

    1. One post, grouped into sections like Solander has done, are best. I can go to one place for all the references and see at a glance what they’re for. Thirty one separate one-link posts is way, way too many.

    2. Keep the requests to the slot at hand. For instance, this thread is about Ranged weapons and a little about Shields. Swords and axes and masks aren’t super relevant right now, and by the time I get around to drawing them, I’ll have forgotten all of this.

    Thanks!

  41. chase says:

ok by the way dont mean to sound bossy but its just that i tried that and after i sumbited it did not show up, by the way I can under stand how you wont to half of them some i did not like myself, PS thanks for lookin

  42. chase says:

by the way solander is the BOM!

  43. chase says:

@ Jeff I know I text alot but what arre you going to do next

  44. Jeff Hebert says:

Chase, when you include a lot of links in one comment, it goes to the Spam folder without giving you a message about it. But it’s there, waiting on me to approve it, which I will.

As I’ve said several times in this very thread, I am working on shields next.

  45. chase says:

    oh thanks dude

  46. chase says:

will you accept one of those shields i sent in and will you mind if i find more?

  47. cailean says:

    how about one like this

  48. cailean says:

how about a electric cross bow

  49. TJ says:

I’m kinda new to posting too and not nearly as good as some of you, but i was wondering(possibly unrelated)if we could get “an unlicensed nuclear accelerater” which i guess could be a ranged weapon. Thanks!
