Halloween Special- Scary and Creepy Moments in Non-Horror Games

halloween-banner

Happy Halloween! In honor of my favorite holiday of the year, I thought I’d look at something in tune with the season. In gaming, there are a great many horror games, but even non-horror games can have scary or creepy moments. So let’s pay tribute to some of those today. Remember, I’m talking non-horror games, so no Resident Evil, no Silent Hill, no Dead Space, nothing like that. I’ve also left off Bioshock, as while not exclusively a horror game, has a lot of the same elements of one (man, getting down to Rapture and having a splicer scream and claw trying to get at you in your bathysphere… eep.). Some spoilers, too, as I can’t really talk about stuff that happens in-game without them. I’m not limiting myself to one per game, either, as some games have multiple instances of creepiness.

The List: Top 10 Greatest Live Action Superhero TV Shows Of All Time

You lot were very indecisive on this weeks poll. No less than 75% of the field shared the exact same number of votes as another entry and there were at least 2 3 way ties. Fortunately, the top 4 weren't tied in any way so that does make my job a little easier.

Honourable Mentions: The 1990 Flash series, Luke Cage (which is pretty good numbers for a show that's only just been released) and Gotham

The List: Top 10 Reasons Why Blizzard Should Turn Overwatch Into A Multimedia Franchise

Hey guys, JR here and, yes, I know we've had a list already this week, but I wanted to do another one that isn't based on a poll.

So, Overwatch. In case you weren't aware, this is a video game. A team based, multiplayer first person shooter, to be precise, where the players choose a "hero" with unique movement, attributes and skills, from four defined classes (Offence, Defence, Tank and Support). It's become quite popular. The lowest professional critical score it has been given is an 8/10 by Polygon and commercially the game had 7 million players within a week of launch and is currently sitting at somewhere around 20 million players as of this week. So it's good. Well, I mean I freaking the love the thing. But I can't help feeling as though Blizzard (the game studio who developed and published the game) are missing out on something by just keeping the franchise in the realm of video games. So, I'm gonna list the 10 reasons I think Blizzard should make Overwatch a multimedia franchise. And by multimedia, I obviously mean media outside of video games, so TV, Movies, Comics, Books etc. etc. etc.

The List: Top 10 Greatest Sci-Fi Films Of All Time

So, this poll was... interesting (and divisive). I don't understand the way you guys vote sometimes. For example, Star Wars Episode 3 got more votes than such classics as Planet Of The Apes, The Thing, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Aliens or Serenity (which I'd have thought would have got a whole lot more votes, considering how popular Firefly still is). Of course, none of these films have made the list, alongside other classics of cinema as Terminator 2 and Star Trek the whales one (as it was put on the poll).

So without further ado, let's jump into the list.

Oh and sorry Worf, there's a lot of Star Wars.

5 Things That Make Me Excited for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

So a new trailer for Rogue One dropped a couple of days ago. Instead of reviewing the trailer itself (because what can I say, it looks awesome!) I thought I’d do a quick outline of the things that are making me most excited about this film. The trailers have looked great so far, but these are the things that we’ve seen or know to be happening that pique my interest the most. In no particular order, they are:

The List: Top 10 Greatest Star Wars Characters

So, we have collected all of your votes and sorted through them to find out who you, the Heromachine Community, think is the greatest character in the history of the Star Wars franchise. And the results are quite surprising. People you won't see on this list include Princess Leia, C-3PO, The Emperor or Kylo Ren. Even Yoda didn't make the top 10. So without further ado, let's jump in and see who you guys voted as the greatest character in Star Wars.

The List: 10 Things Marvel Should Do To Make Another MCU Hulk Film

So, the big green guy hasn't had the best career on the big screen has he. The 2003 film was, let's be charitable and say not good, and the MCU reboot of the character has been pretty solid so far, if you ignore the fact that his solo movie had a completely different lead actor to the guy who is playing Hulk now and the film is pretty much forgotten otherwise. However, it is unlikely that there won't be another Hulk film at some point, the character is too popular and everyone is pretty much in agreement that Mark Ruffalo is a perfect fit for Bruce Banner, so how should they do it? Well, here are a few ideas. I'm not going to try to write the whole movie this time, I've just got the outlines of two ways it could go.

The List: Top 10 Stan Lee Marvel Movie Cameos

We all know who Stan Lee is right? He's that guy who is executive producer for pretty much all Marvel's movies and who can't stop inserting himself into the film with random cameos. Oh and he might have written some comics once.

But considering his fame as a Marvel Movie Where's Waldo, we might as well take some time to count down his greatest achievements in the realm of the silver screen. Here's my list of Stan Lee's top 10 greatest cinematic performances.... or just the best cameos he makes in Marvel movies. The first one sounds better though.

The List: Top 10 Worst Spider-Man Storylines

So, Spider-Man. Peter Parker has been webslinging since 1962 and he's had quite the time of it over those 54 years. He has lost his entire family (pretty much), got married, died, been resurrected, been cloned, gone to space numerous times, been body-swapped and accrued a gallery of enemies second only to Batman and a gallery of titles that number in the "too many". He's been involved in some great storylines against some of the greatest villains in comic book history and has been the face of Marvel since his inception. But he's also the guy who seems to get a lot of Marvels less well thought out ideas. So here's the list, the Top 10 Worst Spider-Man storylines.

Warning: Opinions below. And bad Spider-Man storylines, which is even worse than the opinions. Do not read if sensitive.

The List: Top 10 Richest Comic Book Characters

As the old saying goes, money makes the world go round. Whilst it apparently can't buy you happiness, it can buy an awful lot of other things; flashy cars, huge mansions, private jets, presidential nomination, you know, stuff that people without money can only dream of. And the same is true in the fantasy worlds of comic books. In order to get ahead, you need dollars. But which characters have accumulated the greatest wealth during their time in print?

For the record, I am not including any characters on this list whose wealth cannot be quantified, so I'm not including any aliens such as The Collector or Gods like Odin and Thor, nor am I including guys like Namor and Aquaman, who would be undeniably wealthy due to being rulers and having access to any shipwrecks they should want.

Warning: Actually, no opinions this time, although some of the facts are conjecture, but done by people who know a lot more about finance than I do so hopefully they're accurate.
