Open Critque Day #15

Why am I always late with this??

As for how this goes, you post a work of yours, finished or WIP (aka work in process, for those who are new to abbreviations), and then others give you critiques on your work.  I do not mind if you post the occasional non-HM picture or piece of writing. Just make sure that you only post pictures that are your own design and not any that copyrighted or based off of copyrighted characters.

Also, if you post a work, it is highly recommended that you also give someone else a critique.

R.I.P Leonard Nimoy

R.I.P Mr Nimoy, you lived long and prospered, and were a legend both to Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike.

Character Of The Week: Roga Monk- Literally Everything They’ve Posted Thus Far

So, on Monday, this new guy starts a thread on the forums and starts filling it with work that literally causes peoples heads to explode… Hang on, didn't I do this once before, for Valyndril? Oh well. Either way, I'm a bit stuck, because I actually don't know what piece to highlight here. I whole-heartedly suggest following the link below to Roga Monk's gallery. Some, No, All of the the stuff in there is amazing, but just to give you a taster, here's the first picture that Roga posted. And this isn't even the best one, I just couldn't decide which was...

The Bourbonville Krewe

Friend of HeroMachine John Hartwell has added another awesome Holiday League team to his roster, the Bourbonville Krewe!

anniv-logo

John's one of the guys I played Champions with back in college, games that served as one of the primary motivations for creating HeroMachine in the first place. He's now moved on to a successful career as a sports marketing genius, creating awesome logos and team identities. It's like creating a super-hero only for real!

Geek Quiz ♯13: Star Trek

Okay, I've caved in, you can have a Trek quiz. This one's going to be interesting because I haven't really ever watched Star Trek (don't hate me) so all of my information has come from either various websites (both official and fan wikis) and stuff I picked up from friends who do watch the show. So if my answers aren't 100% accurate, feel free to let me know, this is the one time I'm giving you free reign to put answers in the comments, so long as you give me a reference I can check to make sure you are right, then you get any points you would have got if I had known what I was talking about. So… this'll be fun.

Also, if you have any suggestions for themes for the quiz you can suggest them below, or we could go back to doing non-themed mixed quizzes like the first few that we did on the blog.

As per usual, 10 questions with a total of 20 points to get. The answers will be below a jump from the post whilst on the main blog page, so if you don’t want to be spoiled, take a look at the questions on the blog first.

1. Name the creator of Star Trek (1)

2. Which Star Trek book is titled after one of the original ideas for the series name? (1)

3. How long after the original Star Trek series is Star Trek: The Next Generation set? (1)

4. What colour was originally used to identify members of the Science Division of the Starfleet? (1)

Bonus: What was the speciality insignia that the Science Division crewmembers of Federation Starships had in their insignia patch? (1)

5. What is Khan's full name and who played him in his two original appearances? (2)

Bonus: How many times do Kirk and Khan actually meet in person in The Wrath Of Khan film? (1)

6. Which characters appear in the most Star Trek films? (3)

7. What was the villain of the first ever episode of The Original Series? (1)

Bonus: What was the title of the episode? (1)

8. In which episode do the Borg make their first appearance? (1)

Bonus: How many episodes of TNG did the Borg appear in in total? (1)

9. How many actors have portrayed Spock in the TV series and films? (1)

10. Name the founding members of the United Federation Of Planets (4)

Answers below the jump. Continue reading

Anime Talk: White-Washing?

This week on Anime Talk I want to discuss a topic I briefly touched upon in the comments of a previous Anime Talk talking about the live action Ghost in the Shell Movie that Dreamworks is putting together. That topic would be the White-Washing of Asian character in the Hollywood adaptations of the works in which the characters have originally appeared.  For those not familiar with the term, white-washing is the practice of casting the white actor or actress for a role of a character that is of a different race in the source material in this case Asians.

Character Design Contest ♯110- Mech me some Robots

So, this weeks challenge is to create some sort of robot. Not a cyborg or mech-suit that is worn by a human, a mechanical automated machine controlled by an AI or simple program. It can be a utility robot like R2-D2 or a war machine like the Sentinels, humanoid like Optimus Prime or non-humanoid like GLaDOS. Just make sure it's awesome.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post pictures and images that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

Character Design Contest ♯108 (Be Romantic) Results

Usually these polls fall into one of two categories. Either they're close, with the winner being within 10 votes of second place, or the winner runs away with it. This week wasn't close, but it wasn't exactly a run away victory either. But in the end I guess that wouldn't really matter to Nug whose Ace Of Hearts won this contest. Congrats Nug and well done to everyone who entered.
