CDC #370 – Team Building – Part 10 – Resuilts

So there were only 5 entries this week, so I will forego the honourable mentions and runners up. Perhaps it is a summer vacation thing, or people are just losing interest, but this group of challenges will be coming to a natural conclusion in a few weeks time. It would be nice to go out with a bang rather than a fizzle, but that is up to you all. So now to the results...

Even though I am not doing the honourable mentions and runner's up, I would be remiss if I did not give a shout-out to Blunt Object for the absolutely beautiful character description that accompanied his entry. Seriously the best one I have ever read. Well done you!

And this week's winner is...drumroll please...

R.I.P Steve Ditko

It has come to our attention that the legendary comic book artist Steve Ditko has passed away at age 90. Ditko is most famous for being the very first artist for Spider-Man, creating the iconic look that we all associate with everyone's favourite web-slinger, as well as a large portion of his most famous rogues during his 38 issue run at the beginning of the Spider-Man series. He had a hand in creating Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Mysterio, Kraven, Sandman, The Lizard, Electro,Vulture, Chameleon, as well as J. Jonah Jameson, Aunt May, Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn. And let us also not forget that he was the lead artist on the debut of another of Marvel's iconic pantheon, being Doctor Strange, and deserves special credit for his works on other legendary characters both in Marvel and DC. His resume includeds runs on Blue Beetle, The Question, The Creeper and Hawk and Dove for DC, whilst later runs with Marvel yeilded work on Namor, Machine Man, Iron Man, The Power Rangers (oddly enough) and The Hulk, as well as co-creating Squirrel Girl. A noted recluse, Ditko is not believed to have ever married nor to have any children.

Rest In Piece Mr. Ditko, your legacy will last for years to come.

Caption Contest #121 Result

Ok guys, last week I asked you to come up with the best possible replacement dialogue for this:

And here are your top 5:

Rekulhs Nathe: Oh No! My one weakness, Words!

Treasure Hunter: Beeyok? Captain America stared into space and wondered if he’d seen that onomatopoeia before.

G.W: I’m trying to stretch my arms out like Mister Fantastic, but somehow, it’s just not working.

G.W: That’s odd. I’m surrounded by Shrapnel, but almost none is hitting me, despite me spreading myself out. Maybe it’s this thing I’ve heard about called “plot armor.”

Can't Draw: That felt like more of a KABONG!

And your winner is... (Pause For Dramatic Effect)

CDC #369 – Team Building – Part 9 – Prize for Xinmodic

Xinmodic's take on Veloz...

Hope you like it! Thanks for entering, and congrats again!

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day to all the Canadian Machiners out there...and those who wish they were! 🙂

CDC #370 – Team Building – Part 10

The premise of this contest is that over the next number of weeks we will build a team of superheroes and a team of villains. Each week I will supply you with a role, name, or list of powers of one of the team members and you will use HM3 to create the character. The winner each week will win a version of their character created on HM by yours truly

Your challenge this week is to design the mystic member of the villain squad - Dr. Amanda Peterson – aka The Emerald Sorceress. Having always been fascinated with world religions, Amanda was researching the Voodoo religion while working toward her PhD and became possessed by the malevolent spirit of a powerful ancient witch. As her psyche was slowly absorbed, Amanda lost herself eventually to the witch’s vengeful spirit. The transition from Amanda is telegraphed by her eyes turning a vibrant emerald green.

Please follow the instructions below regarding the naming of entries.

This contest will close at 9am Eastern on Sunday, July 8th.

CDC #369 – Team Building – Part 9 – Results

Gonna approach this a little differently this week. Rather than honourable mentions and runners up, I have selected a top four this week, all of which are more than deserving of the win. Basically I am hoping that talking through all four will help me make a decision.

First up...Xinmodic.

Probably the least aerodynamic of all the entries. That being said, the colours are dead on, although I do question the practicality of running really fast while bare chested. Dude's nipples would be like hamburger! Ouch!

Next is Calvary Red.

Big fan of the costume itself, but not a huge fan of the colours as there is already a hero team member who is predominantly in white. Really like the mask and emblem.

Next is Kellkin.

Really dynamic pose and I love, love, love the background. Not a big fan of the lightning bolts - a bit "Flash-y" for my taste, but the costume is solid.

And finally Ubiquitous Pixel.

Great pose and shading as usual. Would have preferred a different base colour, again based on the fact that there is already a hero team member in blue (Bluejay from Part 3)

Well that actually helped a little. This week the win goes to...
