CDC- Kind of a Drag

Presenting Ms. Detta Nation! If you can handle the fire, she’ll be your atom bomb baby. If not, you’re gonna see a real explosion. She’s hot as a reactor core and twice as dangerous; you might even say she’s radioactive.

For some reason I had the idea to do a atompunk/retro-themed queen. I’d like to hope that somewhere out there Cliff is looking down with approval.

Head of the Mason Corporation (one of the world’s largest banking, investment and insurance conglomerates), Charles Mason is a mathematical genius and a billionaire. His exceptional mathematical skills and calculated risks saw him make his fortune on the stock market before buying out a number of companies himself and taking them public, further increasing his fortune. Like many on Wall Street, he is fairly withdrawn from the public eye, which is useful as he also hides a dark secret. Mason is the chairman of Criminal Enterprises, a criminal organisation run like a business. The premise is simple, the board (made up of some of the foremost criminal masterminds in the country) contract out work to lower order criminals, who recieve upgraded equipment and tech, as well as a “wage” in exchange for CE taking a cut of any jobs. Criminal Enterprises also makes money through playing the stock market, influencing stock prices illegally, through sabotage, murder and other nefarious means.

Here is Rubber. He is extremely flexible, bouncy, malleable, and, all around, he sort of has powers similar to Mister Fantastic, though Rubber isn’t as skilled at molding parts of himself into various specific shapes as Mister Fantastic. Beyond the code name, the look, and the powers, I’ve got nothing. Anyone got any suggestions for a secret identity, backstory, or personality? On that note, anyone got a better superhero name than “Rubber?”

Why is it that half of my characters have really well thought out backstories, motivations, and personalities and the other half have pretty much nothing?

I’m gonna go ahead and extend the deadline to Sunday, March 25 at 6pm EST (if that’s a thing I can do). Although I could theoretically count Herr D’s post as his entry since it sounds like he had the picture done and just forgot to attach it, I’d also like to give Keric and any others a chance if they just need a bit more time.

Rando Calpurnian – gnome shadow monk

This character came about because I thought it would be fun to randomly roll for everything (race, class, background, gender, alignment…) and then come up with a character concept and backstory that made it all work. It ended up being an entirely non-optimized character (especially once you factor in his entirely mediocre stat rolls) that I think would be super fun to play. Building the image itself mostly revolved around trying to angle his body one way while his head looks the other way. The head part came out very well (especially once I traded in the standard male heads for the bottom half of the dual-conehead alien head), but I wish the chest didn’t look so flat. Super simple background and some shading and we’re calling it good.

Rando is a devoted but largely inept minion of an evil and powerful mage who would totally take over the world if he weren’t so focused on outdoing the rival evil powerful mage on the neighboring cliff. Rando wants nothing more than to be a super badass ninja and serve his master well, but since he’s not good at much of anything, he’s pretty much only survived this long because he relies on his fellow minions to bail him out or just straight up hides until danger passes (and then congratulates himself on his stealthiness).

Rando’s master appreciates his loyalty and determination, but as the HR complaints begin stacking up, he decides that it might be a good time to send the gnome out on a solo mission of great importance. He gives Rando a list of different targets and instructs him to collect a button from each one, to be used as ingredients in an incredibly powerful and diabolical spell. There’s a lot about this that Rando doesn’t understand, but he will do his absolute best to follow his master’s wishes to the letter. And if this entire thing is just a pointless fetch quest designed to get him out of the castle for a while, it never even crosses his mind.

I’m not seeing an attachment, Herr D.

Only a few hours left, I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with. 🙂

Star Soldier Amelia Rivers

First decent attempt at a sci-fi themed character. I’ve tried making some in the past but was never really happy with the results. The change the helped me the most was starting with a spandex suit and building the armor up from that. Trying to completely cover the body just makes it too messy. I also tried my hand at making a nebula in the background which I think came out really nice.

The Star Soldiers are Earth’s main off-planet spec ops force. Amelia Rivers is the team’s sniper. Her silent energy wings allow her to stealth into position when jetpacks would cause too much noise. The wings fold up into her armor making them compact and lightweight.

I ironically ended up making a new character (or at least a highly edited old character) on the same day that I said was going to be inactive for a while.

This is the Magician, Phillip Magus.

Magus was an famous stage magician. From an early age, he showed himself to be a mean, cruel person, but extremely intelligent and highly skilled at creating artificial illusions. Then, one day, Magus was going home after a performance when an old man came up to him and congratulated him. He then snapped his fingers, and transported both himself and Magus to what seemed an empty void.

“we are not truly here, mister Magus,” said the man. “We are there. This place exists not, outside of our minds. It is but a complex illusion.” The man underwent a transformation, revealing himself to be the devil. “I am, if you have not noticed, the devil, though you may know me by one of thousands of other names. At any rate, I will give you powers to create these intense illusions, allowing people to see virtually anything, as well as the abilities to transport yourself anywhere on Earth you can think of, and to enter the mind of any human being, learning their fears, their desires, everything. You will essentially be able to manipulate almost anyone on Earth to your will. All you have to do is give me your soul.”

Barely thinking about it, Magus agreed to the offer, giving the devil his soul in exchange for the powers the devil had mentioned. Now, Magus, calling himself the Magician, uses his abilities as he pleases, mostly to gain power, money, or influence, as well as because he finds it extremely amusing. He is one of the most dangerous human villains in my universe, as only a select few humans can naturally withstand his power, though anyone can withstand him with certain exceedingly hard-to-make devices, or through training so intense that only two people in my universe (whom I haven’t even created yet) can resist him without powers or devices (the only characters I have created so far who can naturally withstand the Magician are Cerebrum, due to his advanced mental abilities and the Electric Eel, due to not being a human.)

Little is know about her…she just…appeared.  According to her story, she is from 70 years in the future, when the world is struggling to recover from the last world war.  WW 1 was fought in trenches with chemicals, WW II with tanks, planes, and nuclear weapons.  WW III was fought with superhumans, advanced technologies, gods, and magic.  A third of the world’s population was extinguished, countries and political structures gone, food, shelter, and safety are in short supply.  She was not born, but created.  A genetically grown artificial person, using the DNA of fallen warriors and the blood of gods to be the perfect conduit of magical energies used by spellcasters.  In short, she needs no amulet, helmet, or magic wand…she IS the wand.  I present to you, the orphan lost in a time not her own, ARCANA, and her first and closest friend, a rat terrier she adopted named Biggs.
