Anime Talk: White-Washing?

This week on Anime Talk I want to discuss a topic I briefly touched upon in the comments of a previous Anime Talk talking about the live action Ghost in the Shell Movie that Dreamworks is putting together. That topic would be the White-Washing of Asian character in the Hollywood adaptations of the works in which the characters have originally appeared.  For those not familiar with the term, white-washing is the practice of casting the white actor or actress for a role of a character that is of a different race in the source material in this case Asians.

Character Design Contest ♯110- Mech me some Robots

So, this weeks challenge is to create some sort of robot. Not a cyborg or mech-suit that is worn by a human, a mechanical automated machine controlled by an AI or simple program. It can be a utility robot like R2-D2 or a war machine like the Sentinels, humanoid like Optimus Prime or non-humanoid like GLaDOS. Just make sure it's awesome.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post pictures and images that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

Character Design Contest ♯108 (Be Romantic) Results

Usually these polls fall into one of two categories. Either they're close, with the winner being within 10 votes of second place, or the winner runs away with it. This week wasn't close, but it wasn't exactly a run away victory either. But in the end I guess that wouldn't really matter to Nug whose Ace Of Hearts won this contest. Congrats Nug and well done to everyone who entered.

Sounds like the original PUP’s to me.

Open Critique Day #14

Extremely sorry this wasn't up on time (again).

Just as a warning, I'm not going to be able to respond on here for most of Saturday because I have something going on in real life.

Character Of The Week: Viper- Kradothor

I'm not going to be saying a lot this week, because it would end up sounding an awful lot like the COTW from 3 weeks ago when I last featured some of Viper's work, but the same things still apply. Awesome shading, great use of colour and very nice item usage, especially with the masked patterns on the armour. A little more garish than the one from 3 weeks ago, with all the shiny jewels, but Viper certainly knows his way around golds and oranges.

A New Fantasy Novel Kickstarter

facebookBannerFinal

Friend of HeroMachine Ben Finn is helping promising new writer Melody Wolfe launch a Kickstarter for her new fantasy novel, "Rivertown":

Rivertown is the story of a young woman who rises to heroism in the face of a growing crisis. Against a backdrop of mystery and secrets, she must discover who she is, and how to save the people she loves.

The Kickstarter runs from Feb. 19 to Mar. 19, 2015!

The samples I've read so far sound really good and the cover art looks fantastic:

The HeroMachine community is all about helping artists find their voices and making imaginations come to life, so I hope you'll take a moment to head on over to the campaign and help Melody (and Ben!) out with her dream.
