For the next few weeks we will be building a team of RPG characters based on the following classes: Warrior/Fighter, Knight/Paladin, Barbarian/Berzerker, Monk/Martial Artist, Archer/Ranger, Thief/Rogue/Assassin, Priest/Healer, Mage/Wizard, and finally Summoner/Necromancer/Druid.
Your CDC challenge this week is to create an original heroic Warrior or Fighter character.
The winning entrant will receive a HM3 version of their character rendered by yours truly.
The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way.
Rules for posts, contests, and challenges:
Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters. No characters based on Official RPG NPC’s ( Non-Player Characters ). Please keep all submissions PG13. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.
All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShack, PhotoBucket, or whatever);
Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

four entires this week. Expected more, but oh well.
Shout outs to Palazzo and Atomic Punk for well thought out, and in Palazzo’s case, adorable entries.
Runner up this week is Tartan Panda. This is a lovely piece of work, but the character is essentially in silhouette, and this is a “character design challenge”. Still though, really beautiful work.
So the winner this week is Scott Weyers.
I think this might be your best entry ever. A really clean, uncluttered design. Well done you1
Your prize will be posted to the blog later this week.
Thanks to all who entered.

So, not often I do one of these anymore, but sometimes a piece comes along that just blows me away so much that I feel the need to showcase it. Well, here’s one of those:

Now, there is a lot I could talk about when it comes to this picture. The head, with a mixture of masking (the helmet) and resizing (the tusks) shows how you can make an effective 3/4 turned head without it looking a mess, or how I love the contrasting colours between the foreground character and the background that really make the character pop. Also, the backstory these guys came up with adds so much to the character.
But what really tips this over the edge for me into exceptional territory is the background and lighting effects. I mean, wow. One of the most eyecatching and well executed backgrounds I have ever seen in heromachine, based purely on the sky alone. The mixing of the cooler blues and purples being (literally) outshone by the central white, that then fades outwards with the sky then becoming enveloped by the green glow and the green clouds that eminate from the ground level area of the background. The colour composition is excellent. It really sells the alienness of the world. Also, neat little bit I only noticed after reading the story, the buildings in the background have an in story reason for being all over the place (and it’s not just because the buildings do be like that in heromachine), it’s because the area the picture is set in is called “The Ever-Changing City”, the city is constantly changing, so the buildings look like they’re shifting (I hope this was diliberate and I haven’t just made this up, because it’s such a cool way to work within the limitations of the program).
Anyway, if you want to check the guys out, here are their links:

Your CDC challenge this week is to create an original heroic or villainous “space warrior” (something along the lines of an order of characters from a popular movie series maybe). Your submissions can be either human or alien in origin. These groups use laser swords…yeah…that’s what we’ll call them…which can be found in Items Right: Blades: Page 5.
The winning entrant will receive a HM3 version of their character rendered by yours truly.
The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way.

Please include a brief bio of your henchman including his/her current employer.
The prize this week is my version of your henchman’s employer rendered with HM3
Enter as often as you like!
