Indigo Beetle is Danny Garret, grandson of the original Blue Beetle and has inherited some of his grandfathers powers (super strength and healing abilities, increased speed, heightened senses, and enhanced intellectual capacity), but like his gramps he also uses sophisticated technology to fight crime.

And here’s his gramps:
The original Blue Beetle was Dan Garret (note the spelling with only one t!) – a rookie police officer who wore a special bulletproof costume and used a gun as well as various technical gadgets such as a wrist-mounted mini-radio, a “Beetle Signal” flashlight, a “BeetleMobile” car and a “BeetleBird” airplane. He later gained super powers such as super strength and healing abilities, increased speed, heightened senses, and enhanced intellectual capacity from the secret experimental “vitamin 2X”.

Note: Not to be confused with the Charlton Version of the Blue Beetle, who was Dan Garrett (with 2 t’s) – an archaeologist who discovered an ancient magical blue scarab that gave him super strength, flight, and the ability to shoot lightning bolts.April 25, 2016 at 8:44 am #135314

Edit: Ummm … just realised … this was my 666th post in the forums! Pretty spooky that just this character of all things turned up in that post, don’t you think?! (ﾉﾟοﾟ)ﾉApril 25, 2016 at 12:32 pm #135317April 26, 2016 at 1:37 pm #135335

Your Public Domain Character redesigns/updates are awesome, I wish I had the skill you do. Mine look amateurish by comparison.April 30, 2016 at 11:37 am #135426
Thanks a lot! But I really don’t think that your work is all too “amateurish” – I for one like it. 😉
If you look at my characters from when I first posted here (almost exactly 3 years ago), you can see that they didn’t look much different to yours.
I may have improvd a lot since then by just experimenting with items, but I still struggle with fancy poses and it took me what felt like ages to get a grip on “zypping”. Alas, there are still many guys/gals here whose greatness I’ll probably never achieve – just look at DJubys last masterpiece. *sigh*
As regarding the topic “design”: I get a lot of inspiration by browsing through other peoples artwork over at DeviantArt and of course from the works of my fellow ‘machiners. 😀
Defender is based on the public domain character Great Defender (Quality): http://pdsh.wikia.com/wiki/Great_DefenderMay 1, 2016 at 2:32 am #135439
yeah I find DA inspirational when I’m in a rut too.
That said, I would LOVE to see what you could do with my latest creation Purple Heart as I think it doesn’t do justice to the inspiration and I am stuck – maybe as a trade with my version of one of your chosen characters?May 2, 2016 at 6:42 am #135467

Something like that? 😉
He’d be doing well as an antagonist to a group of mercenaries/ex-military/militia guys I was recently working on … 🙂May 2, 2016 at 7:02 am #135468
Purple Heart and Defender are great!May 2, 2016 at 8:10 am #135470
