The member’s of the Canadian National Heroes, Canada’s most prolific team of superheroes, received word that a small village in the wilderness of Alberta was being attacked nightly by some kind of monstrous beast. When they arrived, the heroes were shaken by the bloody wake the creature had left. Further investigation showed that the nocturnal menace was the only known abominable snowman, an enormous monster covered in thick white hair. The CNH was able to neutralize the creature, and it was tranquilized and brought to a government facility. After a few months, the beast was captured by members of the Sinister Society, a vast network of supervillains led by Axis. Bio:Brian was once a career drug tester. He would sign up for paid medication trials and barely scrape by on the payments he would get. But one of those drugs would forever change his life. It was called Apexia, manufactured by mega corporation Varner-Poole Pharmaceuticals, and its intent was to give its user slightly higher-than-human superpowers. Testing on animals had yielded desired results, and Brian was the first human to be administered the drug. He was soon transformed into the super-powered mascot Apex, and spent most of his subsequent time doing commercials and making public appearances to pique public interest in Apexia.
But it was soon discovered that none of the people who had purchased the drug exhibited any observable effects from it. Both Brian and Varner-Poole were accused of fraudulent advertising. It was alleged that brad had already been superhuman, but had only pretended to become so thanks to Apexia. In truth, Brian had been completely honest about his transformation. What he didn’t know was that he possessed a unique gene in his DNA necessary to make Apexia work correctly. This gene was so rare that only about .01% of the world’s population possessed it. It was simply incredible coincidence that he had happened to be the test subject. This was discovered by a geneticist several years after Brian had declared bankruptcy in disgrace, and he knew the public would never fully trust him again, but Brian was able to pull himself up from a depressed, alcoholic stupor and become an actual hero, using his physical might to protect those who needed protection.

Once he was simply a gorilla living in the wild in central Africa. Because he was the biggest, he was the dominant male of his troop. It was because of his imposing size that he was targeted for apprehension by the bounty hunter Carson Chase, under the employ of the shadowy corporation known as the Sphinx Foundation. Ape-X, as he would be code named, was brought to a Sphinx lab in the U.S. and pumped with various genetic enhancements, turning him into a super-genius with the body of a beast. Once he had gained this intellect, Ape-X gave himself the name Ptolemy Shakespeare, after his two most prominent inspirations. He was also given extensive bionic implants, granting him further power. But part of these additions included a device allowing the scientists of Sphinx to control his actions, and he was made Head of Security of all Sphinx facilities.Pictures:

In 2032, the technology-based company PresCorp discovered an amazing thing. By stimulating and manipulating the right genes, they could give a normal person amazing super powers temporarily. The effects lasted for about a week.
To collect as much on this breakthrough as they could, PresCorp created a daughter company called Venture, Inc. Venture offered the process to those who would pay for it (a hefty sum), and then kept them on a compound on an otherwise deserted island. They would create adventures in which these people could use their powers. It was exclusively for the sake of entertainment and profit, letting the rich and influential people of the country live out the fantasy of being a superhero for a short time. Lengthy background checks were performed to ensure that none of the customers would use their powers for evil, as well as a cancellor gate, which would void all powers when passed through.
There was a public outcry scolding Venture for making the experience so expensive and thus only for the wealthy, but no legal action could be carried out.
But then the demons arrived.
To call them demons is probably a misnomer. They were really just beings from another dimension. They had found a way to cross to our world, and when they saw that we were physically inferior, the invasion began. It soon became clear that the world’s existing heroes were not enough. Therefore, the US military declared martial law over Venture, Inc.
The “hero surgery,” as it was known, suddenly became available to anyone for free, as long as they were willing to volunteer to help battle the armies of beasts. And thus, the Citizens’ League of Heroes was formed. Many different powers were offered, and all were given to these everyday working people. Thousands applied and most were accepted. They were each given a crash course on how to control and use their newfound powers, and then they were sent to the fray. They were divided into teams of ten, each being led by a pre-existing superhero. makeshift hospitals were set up near the battle lines so that the week long powers could be continued as long as was necessary. They fought until the menace was destroyed. Many died in the battles. The rest returned to their normal, mundane lives, but with the memory of being and doing something extraordinary.Jayda joined the CHL simply to get away from the Hell of turning tricks in Victory City’s slum section known as the Devil’s Porch. She found she was a natural hero, and though she was forced to retire her codename when her power subsided, she became a champion for the poor victims of Devil’s Porch’s more deadly predators.

When his power activates, his skin glows a bright yellow. After several years as a solo hero, Hank was recruited by Mr. Ultimate in 1994 to join the Hero Corps. He stayed on until early 2008, when Mr. Ultimate was tragically killed by the villainess Wasp.
