After killing the man with his bare hands the metal man was made the new leader(Mostly out of fear). He’s been the scourge of the old west ever since.

During the cold war the soviet military experimented with an injection that would allow their soldiers to survive the extreme radiation levels of a post-nuclear warzone. To that point they succeed, however some side-effects persisted.
It was meant to represent Ymir as a disembodied sort of localized cosmic force. Suggesting that even though he was killed by Odin, he’s still alive in some respect.
