Face It!

While rummaging around the hard drive on my old home computer (since I lost my laptop when I got laid off) I found the old FaceMaker files. I figured it might as well have a home so you can now use it at http://www.heromachine.com/facemaker. I'd forgotten how much fun the "Randomize" feature can be!

I want to say that all of the items from this test app were ported over to HeroMachine 3, and that other than randomizing there isn't anything here you can't do there. In fact if you put HM3 into "portrait" mode it duplicates all of this and more. Still, for folks who want something a little simpler to use I figured it couldn't hurt to make it available. Enjoy!

Whiz Bang Item Dispenser Strikes Back!

You may be asking yourself "What is this Whiz Bang Item Dispenser? Why is it striking back? Why should I care? And who the heck is dblade?" All good questions. And here are the answers...

Whiz Bang Item Dispenser: A whimsical name for my production of art assets for the HeroMachine 3 app. While I have just a smidge of the illustration ability that Jeff has, I am capable of emulating his style and creating new artwork for the Machine. You may have even used an item or two that I created.

Striking Back!: I plan on returning to the weekly production of art assets for HeroMachine 3. At the moment I am thinking of starting back up at the beginning of December.

Why you should care!: Every week I will post a poll asking the HeroMachine community to vote on the item I will create for the following week. Furthermore I will be asking for suggestions for items to be posted in the surveys. This is your chance to help decide what gets made. Just imagine how proud you'll be when that Raccoon Hat you suggested for a poll gets made.  Of course this leads to...

A CALL FOR ITEM SUGGESTIONS!

If you have an idea feel free to post it here preferably with an image link or very detailed description of the item you would like to see. Keep in mind that other people will be voting for the item to be made so it's in your best interest to provide a good description/image. You can also check out my forum thread where I post previews of items that I've created. This is a good place to post suggestions as well. Link is below...

Who the heck is dblade?: I am the shadow that creeps! The whisper that rasps! The knife that pokes! I am a really big fan of HeroMachine that loves to see the program grow. And since I use the application for my own fun and games, I have just as much need for a Raccoon Hat as anyone else who uses HeroMachine.

HM3: Female Masks

I've just updated HeroMachine 3 with the "Headgear-Mask-Female" set. Previously when using the existing headgear sets, the default placement was too high and the head outline wasn't really right for female figures. When I first planned out HM3 the thought was that these items would be generic and if you picked a female body I'd just programmatically move items to whatever the new default position/scaling was. That didn't really work out. So now I'm going back through and manually fixing these sorts of sets that just don't quite fit properly.

I'll move on to the rest of the Headgear items next, but I thought the Masks were the most pressing. On some of these I just moved them into place, but for others I actually redrew the head outlines and reshaped the shadow color areas. I hope this helps make the creation of female characters easier and more rewarding.

HM3: HandLeft-Female Now Available

Finishing the collection of female-specific hands, I've just made "HandLeft-Female" available for HeroMachine 3 to go with its right-side sister. Enjoy! As always, you may have to clear your browser's cache to see the new options appear.

HM3: GloveLeft-Female now live

I've just uploaded the "GloveLeft-Female" set to HeroMachine 3 to complement the GloveRight-Female items from yesterday. As always, you might need to clear your cache to see the new option.

HM3: It’s a new set of items! It’s a new set of items!

"New" might be a bit of a misnomer, but I've just released the "GloveRight-Female" set to HeroMachine 3. You may have to clear your cache for it to show but the file's there. Enjoy!

I'm going through and updating the current male-only items to female versions where needed. Then I'll do the flipover of right-only items to left. It's possible along the way I'll add some completely new, never before seen items as well so put your thinking caps on.

Whatever happened to that bald guy?

AMS sent an inquiry to Kaldath asking what happened to me and what the future of HeroMachine is. So I thought I should duck in to wave and update you all.

The update is, there is no update 🙂

I've got a full time job and travel every two weeks between Austin, TX and Durango, CO. That doesn't leave me with a lot of time or energy for much else, so I don't work on HeroMachine much. I still intend to convert all the left-only items to right, but after that I'll probably consider HM3 done. I don't foresee any new items coming out -- what you've got now is likely all there will ever be.

After that, I honestly don't know. I've been tossing around various ideas but nothing has really gelled yet. HeroMachine 2 continues to generate an order of magnitude more revenue from ads than any other version, so the financial motivation to do more isn't there.

For now I'm content to let things continue to coast. People are still making awesome characters, Kaldath & Krew are doing a great job with the blog postings, and I've got my hands full with everything else in my life. So for the foreseeable future, the status quo will remain.

Hope that's not too much of a disappointment for everyone. I appreciate your interest and continue to be be honored that you all continue to hang out and create.
