META: I got faced

A couple of weeks ago my buddies finally dragged me, kicking and screaming, into 2002 and I set up a Facebook page. I know, talk about a day late and a dollar short. Anyway, they've got a blog feeding beta applet up but you have to have 10 subscribers for it to work, and I wanted to play around with it but have been unable to twist the arms of a sufficient number of Facebook friends to sign up for it.

Which is where you come in!

If you're on Facebook, I'd appreciate it if you could check out the HeroMachine blog feed dealie-whopper (not to get all technical on you) located here and sign up for the feed. Once I get to 10 fans/followers/subscribers/whatever the heck they call it, I can start to play around with their feed settings to see if it's going to be worthwhile or no.

If any of you have Facebook advice for me, fire away, I'm a noob ready to learn. Also, I love that Scramble game, so if anyone wants to rough me up in the verbal department feel free.

META: Ice outage

Texans don't like ice, and neither does our internet equipment. I've been forcibly offline the last two days due to a "wintery mix" that sheathed my wireless broadband antenna with ice, hence the lack of posting. My apologies, but I should be back to normal now.

Well, you know, as normal as I get, anyway.

META: Installation upgrade

I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress today, and although it looks like it's working you never really know for sure. So give me a shout if something is broken.

META: Holiday outage

I'll be away from the office until Saturday, December 27, but I'm scheduling posts to appear throughout that time to ensure you've got your daily dose of random. Have a good break everyone, and apologies in advance if your comments go unanswered or unmoderated, I'll get to them as soon as I can!

META: Contact form working again

Apparently the Contact Form page has been broken since the site went down last month. Oops! Furthermore it turns out the old contact form is what broke the site in the first place, and when I tried to put it back just now, it broke the site again. How rude! So I slapped a handle on it and toted it off, just a like a cabbage (or a man, as if there's a difference), replacing it with a different, less pretty but more functional, form. It appears to now be working.

My apologies for the aggravation.

META: Out till Sunday

I'll be in Ohio at a nephew's wedding from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening, so talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic:

The original Human Torch was neither human nor an actual torch.

Discuss.

META: Out all day workin' that pole … er, polling place

Just a heads-up that I'll be out all day working the election for Burnet County, so be super to each other. Or something.

Aaaaaand we're back

Massive apologies to everyone for the Epic Fail over the last three days of the site. Suffice it to say, everything's working now, with one small change -- you once again can only vote on each poll once. I think that's basically what was hosing the site, combined with the massive failure of the MySQL servers from my host. The latter issue either contributed to, caused, or hid the previous one, otherwise I'd have had it all back up much sooner.

Thanks to Ryan C. at DreamHost.com for finally calling me and hipping me to what the problem was. Hopefully we can get back to normal around here now.

META: Out of town again

I'm headed to New York City to meet with the UGO guys and talk about HeroMachine stuff in a couple of hours. This means I might be a bit late deciding the contest winner for this week on Tuesday, although I'll try to schedule a new caption image to publish while I'm away.

Hopefully I'll have some program-related news to relay when I return on Wednesday.

META: Rob Liefeld Week

Just as a note, everything I post this week (except for the Improv Comic yesterday and the caption contest winner from last week) will be related in some way to Rob Liefeld. You may leave your feet at the door.
