After a three week spell deciding who is the best version of certain famous DC comics characters, this week we're returning to our original set-up of Poll Positions that will lead into lists. However, I'm not quite ready to let go of the "which of these characters is the best version" format quite yet. So, are there any other characters who have had multiple versions whilst still retaining the same name? And is there any topical reason to do a list? Hmmm. Oh wait, Doctor Who.
Seen as Peter Capaldi has recently announced that the up-coming series will be his last, now seems like a rather appropriate time to decide Who is the best Doctor, or, to shorten the question, who's best? We're only counting the 12 numbered Doctors, so the late great John Hurt does not count (R.I.P).
Sean Pertwee is the son of Jon Pertwee. Sean is Alfred Pennyworth on Gotham. He does a fine job.
Were there any talks of Sean playing the good Doctor? I know nothing of his acting outside of Gotham. He’s a dead-ringer for his dad, so I thought Sean might be a natural to carry on in Jon’s stead.
Well I for one an glad that Peter Capaldi is hanging up the Sonic Screwdriver! I honestly can’t stand his version of the doctor and only made it about 3/4 of the way through his first season/series in the role before I stopped watching Doctor Who. Here’s hoping the next doctor will be better than the current one.
I don’t think Peter Capaldi did a bad job, he just wasn’t given very good material. I’m sure his Doctor will be way more enjoyable when he eventually does Big Finish.
It really seems like the writers didn’t know what to do with him.
Agreed. When he was given good material he was excellent, he had some fantastic mannerisms and callbacks to both previous Doctors and previous Capaldi roles that really made his Doctor very good. However, when he wasn’t given good material his Doctor was too abrasive and dislikable, something which is very apparent in his first series but did get better over time, though it is still noticeable. He had all of the worst bits of Colin Bakers Doctor just with more positives.
I have always wondered about Matt Smith. His face reminds me of Luke Skywalker’s face AFTER Star Wars and the crash. For all that, his boyishness and hyperkinetic ways and coolness declarations edged him out as my favorite. It was close, though.
