Geek Quiz ♯20: Heromachine

*folds arms impassively*

Good luck. I'm expecting everyone to get at least 75% on this quiz (I've down graded my expectations from last week now that I've actually made the quiz). As you can obviously see, this weeks quiz is on the very site you are currently on, both the application (and not only HM3) and the blog.

Oh and as this is the 20th quiz, we've got 20 questions, with 25 points available. The answers will be below a jump from the post whilst on the main blog page, so if you don’t want to be spoiled, take a look at the questions on the blog first. And obviously Don’t Post Answers In The Comments. Oh, and you aren't allowed to look for any of the answers on the blog or in any of the applications, because that is cheating. Everyone here uses this site enough to know this stuff… I hope. (I'd be interested to see how well Jeff would score here….)

Kaldath’s Caption Contest #63

After a little forgetfulness last week, it is once again time for our Bi-weekly Caption contest! This week I want your best Dialogue for the following image:

Superman 1

The normal rules apply, which are: You are limited to Three (3) entries which are due by 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Tuesday April 21st. Of course I as always expect you to keep your entries no worse than PG-13 in nature and that you follow all the normal rules of the forum when writing your caption for the above image. That being said I wish you all Good luck!

Gallery Grabs- AMS

Ok, so after covering two underrated (I.M.O) members of the community in the last two Gallery Grabs, this week we're going to cover someone who is rated just the right amount (i.e. everyone agrees he's a freaking genius). Just so we're clear here, AMS' gallery has 83 pages to it at time of writing, and this is AMS we're talking about, so each and every one of those pages has something brilliant on it, so some stuff is going to be left out. Best thing you can do is go and look though for yourself, because it's worth it. Even if it does take an unreasonable amount of time to look through (my gallery is even longer, so I can't talk).

Warning: This post will contain the word shading many many many times.

Character Design Contest ♯117- Inspired By Music (Again)

Eeyup, we're doing this one again, because it's always great fun. The idea, for those of you who don't remember, or weren't around last time, is that you create an image to fit a piece of music of your choice. So you could create a serene background scene to fit with a piece of soothing orchestral music or you could create a random colour explosion to some dubstep, the possibilities are limitless. I will be judging the entrants on how well I feel their images portray the music they have chosen, so I must ask that you include a link to a youtube video or sound cloud page where I can listen to the song, not to a page where the song can be downloaded. If you don't include the song, I can't judge your piece and it will be disqualified. I don't care what music you chose, I have a very broad taste in music  and I won't mark anyone down for their music choice. That being said, I'd rather not have to sit around for 10- 20 minutes just staring at your pic because that's how long the song is, no matter how good either are, so please try to keep the song choices less than 10 minutes long please.

Anyway, I've decided to put a limit off 5 entries per person this week (because if judging each picture takes 5 minutes on average due to song length and we get 12 entries, that's an hour of judging) and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

Character Design Contest ♯115 (Ranger Danger) Winner

So, we've actually got a repeat winner in the fantasy CDC's now. And it's surprising to think that before her win a few weeks ago, her last CDC win was in June last year. But anyway, this weeks winner is Candruth for her Shot In the Dark. Congrats Candruth and well done to everyone who entered.

What a queer sounding place…

Open Critique Day #21

*Note: I've been really busy recently, so I will not be able to give critiques. OCD isn't going down, though, but you guys just won't see much of me in the comments. I'll probably be appearing more after April 24th.*

As for how this goes, you post a work of yours, finished or WIP (aka work in process, for those who are new to abbreviations), and then others give you critiques on your work.  I do not mind if you post the occasional non-HM picture or piece of writing. Just make sure that you only post pictures that are your own design and not any that copyrighted or based off of copyrighted characters.

Also, if you post a work, it is highly recommended that you also give someone else a critique.

Character Of The Week: Ubiquitous Pixel- Guardian Angel

Well, that's a relief. As you can undoubtedly tell from the title of this weeks post, I've actually managed to pick a single picture for this weeks COTW, after two weeks of not being able to choose between multiple pics. Not that there was a deficit of awesomeness at all (just look at the Also Awesome section for proof), it's just Ubiquitous Pixel has stolen the show this week. And because of that I am also going to put one of his pieces in Also Awesome as well, because it was so hard to chose between the two. Nevia The Archer showcases an incredible pose, one of the most inventive I've ever seen done on HM and, as a picture on the whole, it was only bettered by one picture this week. That picture of course being Guardian Angel. This picture is awesome. The shading and highlighting is striking (to put it very lightly), the pose just furthers this. It's an odd thing, but this picture actually emanates power. It's kind of intimidating, like he's about to lay the smack down on someone and I don't want to be in his way when he does. Even though his face is covered, the way the head is tilted and how the eye is narrowed really gives the mask expression, which in its self is impressive. And do I even need to mention the wings...

Apologies

I want to apologize for not putting up a new caption contest this week. I just started back to work this past weekend and my days all kind of ran together as I am adjusting to my new schedule and it slipped my mind. I will have the new caption contest up next week instead of this week.
