I am bringing "Poll Position" out of semi-retirement to discuss this new Batgirl costume. What I want to know is weather you the HeroMachine community "Love", "Hate", or are just plain old "Meh..." to this design?
Here are my feelings on the redesign. While I think this is a nice looking costume and well designed with the exception of the combat boots which are just way to clunky looking for me, I do not feel this is a good fit for Batgirl. I just don't think it works for a acrobatic, martial arts using, non-super powered crime fighter. The aforementioned boots give the outfit a sense of being weighted down and slowing especially in comparison to the sleeker look to the rest of the costume, and the leather jacket  looks like it would restrict her movements, especially in the shoulder area making it difficult to fight in.
So in conclusion while I like the costume in general, on Batgirl I Hate it. So what are your opinions? Lets us know what you think by voting in the poll and by commenting below.
I’m gonna go meh, because it’s ok but I don’t really care all that much about it. It’s not the worst but she’s had better costumes.
First, it’s a cute picture, I sort of like it…
But it’s NOT Batgirl! Some fangirl sidekick wannabe? Maybe.
An Anime inspired ‘Batgirl’ from some other Universe? Perhaps.
Batgirl? Nope, no way, no how! That’s why I gave it a ‘hate’, instead of a ‘like’…
As to the boots, yeah, they’re more ‘realistic’. No, they’re not attractive.
Yes, adventuring in high heels (which Batgirl usually wears) seems counterintuitive…
Now, what about Comic Book Physics IS intuitive? 😉
The part where someone the size of Bruce Wayne can jump onto a rooftop (that he should fall right through, since they’re NOT designed for THAT kind of abuse!), toss a Bat-shaped Boomerang at a flagpole, and immediately go swinging down the attached line without breaking stride (or EITHER of his arms)?
I’m not worried about the ‘sleek’ part. The Waffle Stompers look reasonably functional, which is probably why they chose to go that way, along with the ‘not spandex’ leather jacket… {So, Gotham City never gets hot in the Summer?} It’s just an appearance thing… I don’t think they even work well with Captain America, so how are they going to look on a beautiful young woman? The fact that her usual high-heeled boots should, by rights, have built-in anti-gravity devices is a mere triviality… 😉
I voted Meh, but the more I look at it the more I lean toward Hate.
First because, as WillyPete said, it looks like a fangirl sidekick wannabe.
The cowl looks like it has the same problem the first Captain America Cowl had. One good whack and bye bye secret identity.
The cape looks a bit too short for me.
The leather jacket…. I really dislike the zipper going right through the bat-emblem.
The gloves are ok, in a nondescript kinda way.
The belt… I know the batbelt is “pouchy” but this one feels like a return to the 90’s pouchmania.
The pants are what? She’s got a leather top and two colored yoga pants????
and I really dislike the boots. totally off-the-shelf with no character whatsoever.
Can I switch my vote to hate now????
Nose and, ideally, chin should be covered to maintain identity. The boots COULD be made of Wayne Industries ultralight tuffstuff, the jacket COULD be made with nearly-invisible small grommeted holes dispersed through layers for ventilation (possible plot points,) and a memory foam understructure COULD make the suit look tighter and more restrictive than it really is . . . so . . .
If you go with comic book physics and sociology, the suit should work as well as many. It does lack a certain pizazz.
I went “Meh” on this one. While I do like some of the elements individually (I actually do like the look of the jacket), the final result says “cosplay” more than costumed crime fighter.
yeah…no ’nuff said. While some of the parts are conceptually cool…put them together and you get Batsoldier (female uniform design)
The cape unsnaps? Edna Mode would be proud.
Other than that… meh.
I voted “Meh”. I like the jacket, but not much of anything else.
So, we’ve got far more votes for “Like” than either of the other 2 options…
Yet, NO comments from anyone who DOES like this!
If you voted ‘Like’, why not tell us why? 😉
Stulte, that would be Edna Mole, not Mode, IIRC…
I’m true “Meh” ’cause I didn’t even vote. Okay, maybe I’m lazy.
I mean… if she started the new 52 with this, that’d be cool.
If this was the earth 1 batgirl, that’d be cool too.
Even if it was a different character taking up the mantle, that’d be fine.
But… why fix what isn’t broken?
I mean I haven’t been reading Batgirl past the Mirror arc, so I can only assume it’s story motivated… still, seems a little random
@ WillyPete
Pretty sure it’s Mode. I watched the film with the girlfriend yesterday.
It is Mode – a fashion or style
