Interesting. We get gigged for coming too close to a copyrighted image, but the owner is allowed to rip off a corporate mascot? Do as I say and not as I do was something I wouldn’t forgive my own father for, and it won’t fly with me here either.
While you do bring up a valid point I would like to point out two things. First You assume he did not obtain permission, which I do not know if he did or did not myself. Secondly Even if he did not get permission he is assuming the legal ramifications for his own actions, where as when someone else posts something here that is a copyrighted character he assumes the legal ramifications of that persons actions. I don’t know about you but I know I am ok with taking the consequences of my own action, but I will not accept the consequences of someone else’s actions if I can prevent it. That being said I will certainly email Jeff and make sure he is aware of your concerns in the event he misses these comments on his own.
Excellent point, Skybandit. It didn’t even occur to me; having been a Redditor for several years they seem to like seeing the alien done up in different ways but I definitely should have checked with them first. I’ll attempt to do so now.
All right, per their licensing page (http://www.reddit.com/wiki/licensing) I’ve sent them a request for permission to use the alien in the program. Hopefully they’ll say yes, but if not of course I’ll remove it. Since Reddit is open-source and has operated in that spirit for a long time (unlike DC or Marvel) I just assumed it would be all right, which was silly.
