Missing Items found, and I bring you the head of dblade!

When my laptop got stolen a few months ago, it had some updated HeroMachine source files on it, containing things like a bunch of headgear and boots and tops from dblade that were not backed up. Restoring files from my Durango desktop meant that I got old versions of those files without the new items in them. So when I later went and added yet more new stuff (like the hoodies) and put the resulting file on the server, it was missing all the previous additions.

The good news is, all of the fantastic dblade items I lost when I overwrote the Headgear-Modern set with the new hoodies have been restored (if you don't see them, clear your browser cache). The bad news is, they're not in the same order as they used to be, so you might notice some weirdness when loading old saves. I apologize for that. The missing dblade fantasy boot also is up now.

Having finally figuring out how to decipher which other items were out of date on my local system but not on the server, I have updated the Eyes-Standard and Tops-Male-Tech sets as well. So if I have to do any updates for those going forward, we'll be set and you won't lose anything. Hopefully.

Speaking of dblade, I've finished two of dblade's outstanding prize requests, portraits of him and his adorable daughter Amelia, available now in Head-Winners:

And finally, I want to once again thank dblade publicly for all of his great work adding items to HeroMachine 3. He's made a huge impact on the program, all on a volunteer basis. We're beyond lucky to have someone with that much talent giving of it so generously. Thank you, dblade, you rock!

Edited to Add: Dang, I forgot that I also put in two "face-kicking shoe bottoms" in FootRight-Standard as well as the prize for Fuzztone's Pop Quiz win!

That was no disguise. And you look sexy in that hat.

SODWA Winners!

Judge Woody from "Super Omega Deathbattle Warzone Apocalypse" has announced the winners of the big contest on the game's Facebook page. These nine winners will have their characters fully illustrated in an awesome pose within a promo poster by Livio Ramondelli of "Transformers: Autocracy" and "DC Universe Online" fame.

I'd like to take a moment to thank Woody for his thorough, thoughtful, and insightful commentary on all of the contest entries. He took so much time in his judging, it was really an honor and a pleasure to collaborate with him. Plus, for once I didn't have to agonize over anything, someone else had to!

And now, your winners, along with commentary by the fantastic Woody, who chose all of these on his own with no input from me.

Sharing Day, Young Nerd Advice Edition

"Kiss her BACK, you idiot!"

For some reason I've been thinking lately about some of the stupid stuff I did when I was much younger. So my question for you on this Sharing Day is:

If you could go back in time and give the Young Nerd You one piece of advice, what would it be?

You can go all Time Traveller if you want and say "Bet on the Saints to win the Super Bowl next year!", or you can dig a little deeper. As for me, I'd probably say something like "Don't be ashamed of who you are. You're a geek -- force your way into that D&D game and revel in it!"

If you like, in return for answering my question to you, you may ask a question of me on any topic and I'll do my best to answer honestly and completely. Just leave your reply (and question, if any) as a comment. The goal is to learn a little more about our community!

Zombocalypse Down

Surrounded by a ravening horde of zombies, supply of ammo dwindling, we had a choice to make for our little stuffed bunny buddy -- go out in a blaze of glory or save a bullet for ourselves. Being muy macho, we opted for the former:

D'oh! "Never trust a guy named Vinny", I think that's the lesson we can take away from this little misstep. Or possibly "Never start a land war in Asia", but perhaps I'm getting my intellectual properties confused.

So our adventure ends here, surrounded by the sprawled bodies of our fallen foes, doomed to spend eternity wandering around as a drooling, brain-eating stuffed bunny zombie. There are worse fates, I suppose, like maybe being married to a Kardashian. Although, I wonder what happens to zombies once they eat all the humans? Can they turn cannibal and eat other zombies for whatever brain dregs are left?

Hopefully we'll never know.

I'd like to thank "Zombocalypse Now" author Matt Youngmark for writing such a fun, engaging adventure, and all of you for playing along. If you haven't yet purchased your own copy, I highly encourage you to do so. You can take the forks we did not, and see if maybe you can arrive at a different conclusion. Having read through quite a few of them, I promise you'll enjoy the journey.

Next week we start a new Matt Youngmark adventure, so be sure to tune in on Thursday!

"Avengers" review

I got to see "Marvel's The Avengers" at the theater on Saturday, and have been very slow in getting up my review. Which is a shame, because everything I would have said has already been said multiple times, but I wanted a good excuse to talk to my fellow geeks about it. So here goes!
