Each of the following women has dated a super-hero in a motion picture. The question before you is, which of these characters would you most want to date yourself -- not the actress playing the part, but the character.
Four of these women -- Katie Deauxma, Mary Jane Watson, Tina Carlyle, and Vickie Vale -- have no super-identity of their own, while the others do. It seems to me the first question has to be, do you want to date someone with super-powers while you have none? The second question you have to ask yourself is, would you want to live in their particular iteration of the real world? For instance, the present depicted in "Watchmen" doesn't seem like very much fun, while the "Spider-Man" movies are pretty much just real world plus a few super characters, mostly living in New York City.
If you want to date a super-hero, you're looking at either an assassin (Elektra), a somewhat disturbed chain smoker (Laurie Jupiter), and a fairly normal woman who can turn invisible (Sue Storm). Personally, I'm at a point in my life where stable is good, so I'd have to go with Sue Storm out of that bunch. She's smart, she's brave, and she can throw a shield around me so I don't get hurt. That's a potent combination.
From the regulars, you have to think about their jobs. Mary Jane is an up and coming actress with a heart of gold, Katie is a sixteen year old girl, Vickie Vale is a gossip reporter, and Tina Carlyle is (if I remember correctly) an exotic dancer. Again, I'm going to have to go with normal, which means Mary Jane. Plus, redheads FTW!
So for me personally, it's between Sue Storm and Mary Jane Watson. Out of those two, I'm going with ... Mary Jane!
What about you? Who would you choose, and why?
IF I were single, then I couldn’t very well pass up the chance to date a Susan Storm who happened to resemble Jessica Alba.
🙂
Yeah, I’m gonna have to go with Sue Storm as well. I have a severe weakness for Mrs. Alba.
Damn, Electra has got my vote… Besides, I’m one of those guys who are attracted to chicks that can kick my ass… And Electra has got that down pat! Plus them curves of hers can KILL, Yowsa! 😛
Aww, no Lois Lane? Anyway I feel obligated to choose Mary Jane seeing as my girlfriend calls me “Her Spiderman” haha.
I have to admit I don’t care for any of the movie Lois Lanes.
I picked Tina Carlyle because she seems like the best of both worlds.
She’s incredibly hot, hotter than any of the other non-super girls on this list (maybe tied for 1st place with Jessica Alba). But at the same time she’s a perfectly nice girl. I remember it shocked the sh*t out of me in The Mask when she turned out to be the girl Stanley gets in the end and the Plain Jane woman ended up being the one who betrayed Stanley to the bad guys. I was expecting the complete opposite.
(And no, she’s not an exotic dancer. She’s a singer at a club.)
While I can’t say I’ve been a huge Fantastic Four fan, I have had a thing for Sue Storm for a while. And, as everyone else has pointed out, in this case, she looks like Jessica Alba. Win!
I think i would choos elektra for the whole dominatrix sexy appeal, but if I had my chocie of any character, X23 would be cool, shes the perfect body guard and im sure the animal side would work well in the bedroom.
There are many good candidates on this list, but I think I will go with Laurie Jupiter aka. Laurie Juspeczyk aka. Silk Spectre II. I personally find her a great character that often stands in the shadow of the more prominent characters of Alan Moore’s “Watchmen” like Rorschach, Ozymandias, the Comedian or Dr. Manhattan. At the beginning of the novel Laurie seems only to be a cynic chainsmoker with issues between her enstranged mother. As the story continues we discover that she is a very brave and caring woman, who goes through an incredible journey of self-discovery with shocking relevations. (Warning! Spoilers!) I feel that she was underportrait in the film adaption.
And I don’t think her world is so much worse than ours. Yes, we have an attack on New York City more terrible than 9/11 (Spoilers). Yes, presidents can get elected more than a second term and Nixon is still president. But we don’t really see any definite signs that the USA of the Watchmen-Universe is police-state or that the economics are harder than they were during the Reagan-Area in our world. Plus, the US won the Vietnam War, we got electric cars, the Iran hostages were liberated and the end of the cold war came a few years early (although at a horrible price.) In total, I presume that Laurie Jupiter’s universe may be different, but not worse or better than ours.
I can’t help myself. Anything associated with Jessica Alba…
Well factoring in the “which universe would you like to live” I rule out Katie Deauxma, Tina Carlyle and Laurie Jupiter.
Elektra would be too intense for me.
I don’t remember much of Vickie Vale’s personality other than she went out with Bruce Wayne for a while (though a question Jeff – where’s Rachel Dawes or Selina Kyle?)
So I’m down to MJ and Sue – Marvel NYC either way – both lovely. Sue I think is more a target for supervillains, while MJ makes herself a target (in helping Peter)
I’ll go for Sue – gentlemen do prefer blondes lol
I haven’t thought any of the Selena Kyle portrayals on the big screen were “dateworthy”. I guess I could’ve done Rachel Dawes, but … I dunno, the character didn’t do much for me.
If any, probably Sue Storm… and I’m NOT a Jessica Alba fan! But she’s actually more appealing when she plays a grown-up, I found, and at least Sue has something between her ears.
For my part, I’d have more fun picking from a list of Star Trek babes and Doctor Who companions. But Erica Durance was a HOOT!
Holy crap, I actually thought I’d be the only geek gunning for Mrs Richards’ super frontal lobes. I mean, so does Namor, but…
Where is my Pepper Potts?
I chose Mary Jane, mostly for the photo you selected.
Anne Hathaway in catsuit. Rawr!
If I was going by photo I would go with Katie Deauxma. She seems so bright and friendly. 🙂
Yeah, I’m thinking more about the ones not in the poll: Pepper Potts, Scarlet Witch, Black Cat, Death (from Sandman), Black Widow, Power Girl, Emma Frost, Spider Woman, Firestar… but only one of them appears in a movie.
Went with Mary Jane because she is a redhead with a catch-phrase: “Go get ’em, tiger.” Meeee-yow!
Like Ian reason for MJ choice, something just sticks out for me 😀
For this poll, Susan Storm because she looks exactly like Jessica Alba.
MJ 😀
As this is about the movie portrayls of these characters, isn’t the description of Vicki Vale being a gossip journalist inaccurate? She was a photo journalist, and supposed to have been a renouned one at that, who was hired by the paper for her talents. She ended up partnered with Knox who was obsessed in finding out about and reporting on the exestince of Batman. Knox may have actually been an investigative reporter in the movie, would have to watch it again. But Vicki Vale wasn’t a gossip journalist, as is evidenced by the genocide photos in her portfolio.
What Vicki Vale was in the comics may not have been the same as the portrayal of the character in the ’89 film.
The title of this article just gave me a dreadful idea, a superheroic kind of “Hitch” figure who steps up to give lonely hearts the night of their lives:
“This looks like a job for SUPERDATE!!!!”
Yeah, Katie looks real pretty, and the world of Kick Ass is almost normal… that makes it my second choice.
But, Sue has a predetermined attraction to Geeks, so I’d have ANY chance whatsoever of hanging onto her for more than 3 seconds, and, hey, she’s got some really powerful Force fields, so I might have a chance to survive the first five minutes… 😀
I went with Mary Jane, though I do have to ask Where is Gwene Stacy?
I mean Gwen Stacy ( Spiderman 3 )
Out of those choices, my top three are Electra, Mary-Jane, and Sue Storm. But, I think I’ll have to choose the Invisible Woman.
Why not Electra: Electra could beat me up. Yeah, she frightens me enough to where it’s just past sexy. lol
Why not MJ: Spider-Man would beat me up.
Why Sue: I think I can take Stretch, i.e. Mr. Fantastic in a fight…though his brain power far exceeds mine, so he might find a way to pummel me.
Besides, Sue always seems to run around with someone other than Reed; so, why not me, right? But, if MJ’s free and Spider-Man’s hooking up with Black Cat or Gwen Stacy, I’d definitely give her a call.
@Jeff: No “date-worthy” Selena Kyle portraits on the big screen? I thought Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in “Batman returns” was hot. Insane maybe, but she and Bruce Wayne had a decent date, until it was interrupted by the bat signal.^^
Sue Storm!
imagine when we’re dating (or more) with invicible woman O.o
real men fantasy! (lol
no “all” option? lol
hyperanthrope (28): Pfeiffer’s turn as the Feline Fatale deserves recognition, certainly, both for reviving interest in the classic character, and for helping (with Sarah Connor and Xena) to inspire stronger female characters and install the “action heroine” as a figure in our popular culture. Pfeiffer’s take on the role was unorthodox, but it worked. HOWEVER, she was not acknowledged as a sex symbol for it…. because it wasn’t central to her portrayal. Dysfunction and feminism were the real thrust of her performance.
Julie Newmar was perhaps the only really successful, sexualized portrayal of Catwoman in live-action. (Halle Berry bombed when she tried the same thing.) For the most part, her comic-page and animated portrayals have been much sultrier.
it would be cool to have sue as a gf in teen years so when your mom walks in she goes see through and you dont get caught, its emabrrassing, trust me
Tool (32): You think SHE doesn’t have embarrassing, teenage memories when she thinks that?
And random… where is The Baroness? (Sienna Miller) Or Officer Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) – though Farscape “PK Wars” was a small-screen event. Can we squeeze in Laura Prepon (Donna Pinciotti – much hotter than Mila Kunis – Jackie “Buelah” Burkhart)?
For me if the universes become involved, Jupiter, Deuxma, and Carlyle.
I also would take off the superheroes as that would make me a target.
This leaves me either MJ or Vale. I’ve always had a soft spot for MJ anyway, so the choice is clear. Also I would not want to live in Gotham.
The Baroness never did it for me, even as a cartoon. After all, with Scarlett and Lady Jaye around, why would I notice? (And Scarlett’s real name was hilarious!)
@Jeff, oh ok I was just thinking because she is a kind of an iconic character. But I do agree none of the movie portrayals have been to my liking…
Okay, so I’m just going to throw out the obvious. Jeff, you do realize that any of the females on this forum (who are straight, obviously) aren’t going to be able to vote because we can’t factor in hotness? You know that because you did a female-oriented poll that you are now going to have to do a male-oriented poll for us women, right? Just sayin.
Jessica, I hear ya and agree. We’ll probably do a male poll next time. I wanted to add super-heroines’ boyfriends on this one, but to my chagrin realized there really aren’t any. So for the next one I’ll have to do male heroes.
Isn’t it lame that there aren’t enough female leads in super-hero movies to fill out a boyfriends poll?
the chick off of kick ass, i can almost see her boobs. 🙂
You can see MJ’s nipples through her shirt. That’s pretty nice. I go for Sue Storm though anyday!
